We are just a bunch of memories. All our "thinking" is repetitive. No thinking of our "own". Hence I see an AGI coming up in the near future (5 to 10 years).
Well, I think ChatGPT etc have revealed just how much of what we do can be impersonated with only a sort of remixing level of creativity. And that's certainly been interesting to see laid out so starkly. But, humans have come up with new paradigms in all sorts of domains and I don't think we've yet got AIs that have demonstrated that kind of meta-level of creativity. And it's not clear if AIs will get there just with more scale and more data, or whether that will require one or two more fundamental improvements to the underlying algorithms. This is an area I talk about in this video about Rebooting AI: th-cam.com/video/w-SJ2xng_sw/w-d-xo.html
great summary Oli - as usual. great work! keep em coming!!!
Hey Giles, thanks! I'm trying to get into a better rhythm of making these videos, so hopefully more on the way :-)
Excellent! I need to point my family at this...
Hi Martin, that's great! I hope your family find it useful.
And, please do share it far and wide :-)
