@@FormidableOne honestly dude, just like when wrestlers complain about butt scooters, I'm going to tell you it's a skill issue. Learn to pin and wrestle to keep them on the ground, and they need to learn to pass the guard.
bro, mat is a monster in disguise & bjj . i checked out his youtube channel and seems like the most down to earth dude who could fold you like a lawn chair. if im ever in AZ, i'll defintely be checking out his open mat classes!! great video.
His grapevine move that starts near 1:44 is very closely related to the merkle. Excellent move for anyone's overhook series. Look into BJJ scout's video on the merkle and B Team's video with coach Andy (should be called like "we learn wrestling from an olympian" or something like that) where he goes over single leg defense and overhook work, including this move. Edit: not just an excellent move, my background is judo, I love to attack with uchi mata from the overhook, but the merkle is what I finish on people who are at or above my wrestling skill level. Once you hit the mat, it combos beautifully into pinning with the grapevine as a turk, inside senkaku, taking the back if you can pass the overhook into a reverse seatbelt grip, or you can abandon the leg and roll into front head. Works as a turn from turtle too. Use it from top half and dogfight. So good. My favorite move. Look at the bjj scout vid.
The technique of 1:48 is a judo technique I think. Kawazu gake (see the kodokan version), also known as the grapevine throw. It's illegal in Judo because of the risk of injury.
3:52 - he had a scorpion death lock on you. Was probably GG but seems he decided to keep rolling instead of submit you. Also maybe because you're a bit explosive he might've wanted to avoid you spazzing and injuring yourself there. It's a dangerous position.
As a 5 month white belt, I've been watching your videos quite a bit and appreciate you posting them they are a huge help! I only wish i'm half as good as you if or when I ever get a blue belt. Keep rocking man!
3:49 He wasn't trying to chase the back here. I think he's casually trying to catch your wrist and control the angle of your elbow for a scorpion lock as he has your lag trapped.
It hasn’t happened before, I believe they are forced to posture up to maintain balance, attacking the arm would require them to bend over, in which case they would fall onto their hands as I’m blocking the leg. If my opponent committed and jumped onto it explosively it’s possible, but very low percentage
we all can adopt a "counter style" I guess but honestly I don't think that is a style, or even a thing. Sometimes we just shut down everything people are doing without really advancing the game ourselves either. But that's not a type of blackbelt, or a style even in my opinion. It's just a thing that happened in your roll. You can roll again with that guy and he can have an attacking "style."
Good stuff.
I like the tone of the roll. It’s not a competition so both of you can try stuff. But both of you are giving honest effort.
That dude is super chill.. very intersting the way he controls with leg hooks, even toe hooks while still standing..

I love how your partner keeps standing up each chance he gets
Just stand up dude, Jiu jitsu isn't real
Lol jiu jitsu isn't only on the ground brother
@@Sage_6reenits literally a ground sport 😂
Maybe youre watching the wrong sport if you enoy stand up? Maybe Wrestling or Judo

gotta love it when much better guys are letting you work. looks smooth!
I just learned to appreciate the guy in the background drilling his balance as well as pressure on that Swiss/balance ball.
3:07 20 seconds about guard retention
3:27 immediately gets guard passed

Appreciate the kind words 🙏

One of my favorite moves, I just call it uchi mata pt.2 lol.
Merkle is sick - Wade Schalles has great stuff on it, as does Ryan Hall on one of his latest back instructionals
@CologneShow thanks for the info bro, I'll check that out now!
Thanks dude!

Wow, what a great round. Props to Matt, he's an excellent training partner
1:47 is there a name for that sweep or can I call it the TOE-SHIN Sweep. I learn so much from this channel!

The way he had his arm out waiting to catch that single leg x 😂😂 ten steps ahead
Subscribed. Great content! Thanks for sharing
the way you took his back at 1:00 is absolutely AWESOME!!!!
Reminds me of that old joke about the old bull and the young bull.
Matt is legit from Houston tx out of Abstract 🔥🔥🔥
2:02 where is this video you recommended? I could find it in your channel, or is it from a different channel? Love your videos ❤
It is, it’s called “how to develop a black belt level guard in 1 week” 😁

Keep going brother. Remember where you are now and look back after another 1.5 years.
I really like the concept you mentioned about using the mat to scrape the opponent off of you
This is a beautiful roll 🙏🏼 🔆 🙌🏽
King Matt! Killers!
What is Matt's channel?
Some really high tech Jitz here. Osss!

Correct! Definitely not my strongest position, but I wanted to take a swing anyway lol.

guard system ftw.
Really cool round!
are you ever worried when you do the arm weave on the single leg that they go belly down armbar on it? Has that happened ? Nice work.

That Mat guy is pretty good. He should start his own youtube channel.
I see you Joe!

Hell yeah. Let me roll with you, Carson
At 5:30 you can literally just roll right up to mount. I've battle tested it
Yeah you can roll backwards of your shoulder with a chin strap grip to mounted guillotine
It’s crazy to see you roll with someone I know of 😂
