Volvo Trucks - 175 tonnes road train through the Australian outback - Drivers World (E08)

- Maxine Taylor, 52, keeps her family tradition alive, driving a 175-tonne rated road train across the Australian outback in 48-degree temperatures. Her father and her husband - both now passed away - had the same profession.
“I think my husband would be very proud,” Taylor says, adding that her father drove a Volvo too. “So it’s very close to my heart.“
Six days a week for eight weeks in a row, she makes an 800 kilometre round trip to pick up manganese. After the eight weeks have passed she gets two weeks off before it all starts over again.

Great seeing Aussie built Volvo trucks in the Australian outback
This is great! Im 21 working my way up to do this type of work. Im just starting to drive B doubles in New Zealand. this modivates me more
Thanks! That's great!
Im 22 and my cousin is pushing me to get my class A to drive theae big boys
Three years ago I was still living in West Coast and I really appreciate the drivers going through the Pass to supply all kinds of things to the coasters. I hope you are still on the track and doing what you love
@@volvotrucks hi i want any job in Volvo company.i from Pakistan
Lovely! And great to see a Volvo doing it, I know they are getting very popular there just like in the US, no wonder, most likely the best truck available on the market today. Anyway, you always used to get people saying Euro trucks cant do this and cant handle Australia... xD So I get very happy when I see these videos, these amazing trucks doing this kind of job. :) I find it funny, northern Sweden if you go back 30 - 40 years, maybe less had alot of very rough roads, often not paved at all and trucks did the work back then, not like Volvo, Scania or any other European brand is strangers to harsh conditions. Minus 50 C in the winter in northern Sweden sometimes... take that and then roads that are damaged from the frost and so on, especially if its unpaved and badly taken care of... :) Damn it, I always get in to these rants, love trucks so much! :D --
Awesome that she took up trucking to be able to provide for her self, and keep a connection to her late husband, beautiful story! :)
Stefan, one good thing with Aussie Volvos is that they are built to withstand the toughest conditions Mother Nature and the roads can throw at them.... I live on one of Australia's major transport routes and I watch trucks as I travel around..... for every Kenworth/Western Star I see, I'll often see up to 3 Volvos. Most of them are the bigger FH540's up to the FH16 700's in semi (FH540) or B-Double (FH16 700) - I still see the odd FM doing 45ft single trailer "dog" work but the mainstay of what I see are FH's
I never knew much about volvo trucks, or trucks in general. I started my diesel apprenticeship two years ago, I mainly work on Mack, UD, Kenworth and sometimes Westernstar trucks, but when I see a Volvo come in I always volunteer to work on it, they are a dream to work on, and they really are the most technologically advanced truck in the market.
When I finish my apprenticeship I plan on driving trucks, and I hope I can end up driving a Volvo! but I'd settle for a Kenworth too.
Richard Hurtz Tje most technology advanced truck is the new scania
its a tough world in the outback and a eurotruck has trouble dealing with them
Scania...
As an American truck driver, Volvo has been around a bit here, becoming more common. I've never driven one, I heard their sleepers are top notch and they've gotten the automatic transmission market going, in fact most companies upgrading tractors advertise they've got Volvo autos for drivers. I spent three months in Australia twenty years ago, I sure fell in love with the country. If they've got a driver shortage, I'm free tomorrow if ScoMo has work papers for us😆👍 All the best from Kentucky 🚛🛣️🌄🇺🇸💞🇦🇺
Maxine is a legend. I was very touched. Keep going!
First of all
When you see this Lady one thing you got to do for sure is RESPECT HER because she deserves it.

Secondly VOLVO is not a machine it is a COMFORT

For that beautiful but harsh countryside in Australia, Volvo muscle makes things easier and pleasant.

The way she turns without moving one inch on the other side of the white line is so satisfying!
Amazing history. So much inspiring. Life is hard. If you choose this highway life!!, then #Volvo gonna make it easier. Love you Volvo.
I start my first road train job out of the Pilbra next week..... looking forward to it
So how'd it go ?
pmailkeey good mate, spent 2 years driving road trains in the Pilbara now on the east coast driving bdoubles
@@biostalker4514 you came back to reply. Thats so nice. Enjoy the roads.
Good on you! My late sister drove rock hauling trucks right alongside her husband; she always tried to get at least one more load than he did. It was REALLY tough in those cabs with no air conditioning and 100+degrees every day all summer long.
At 100° water would be boiling, so yes, that tough . . .
The Country is proud of you
oh my God, you are amazing, your history touch my heart, your husband travel with you ...
I feel proud of people like you. You are extremely hard. BRAVO!!
Maxine's a right proper Sheila! I always have respect for hard working people, being a tradesperson myself.
Impressive road building to take loads like that in the heat and not crack up. Of course, proper loading and spreading the weight out over so many wheel sets helps to keep the tarmac in good shape, too. Since I saw that video with a Volvo truck hauling 750 tonnes I am not surprised when one hauls 175 tonnes with ease.
that would be no more then 175 tone i don't no where u get 750 from
red mack620 there is a live test to test out the crawler gears

@@gjn71 It was a one off test
Locals: “Let’s make a railroad”.
Volvo: “Why?”
@Numbered No, I mean Volvo.
Well a rail is still more efficient.
@@nocheinbot5482 Yes but it depends on several factors, primarily how many years the mine will be used. If it's only a shorter period (lika a decade or so), it might be more economical to use trucks and not have to build a new railway. I assume the road already exists but one has to account for increased wear on the road too with all the heavy trucks. There was such a decision made in Sweden a few years ago. Everybody's glad they didn't spend a billion on a railway since the mine went bankrupt shortly after it was opened. But for a large mine making solid business for many decades, rail is the best.
Much respect! Keep on trucking!
Zycze Pani duzo zdrowia i wytrwałosci w tej pieknej a zarazem ciezkiej pracy ❤😊

North american roads have many wonderful american trucks roaming around.
European roads also have excellent european trucks in every corner.

Been watching your videos, Volvo, and have to say. They're awesome. Really well produced, good stories, it's awesome too see other people's reality around the country.
Can I make a suggestions? There are plently of brazilian truckers around here. Some even close to the Amazonia. Maybe you could seek one of their stories?

No, 175'000 kilograms. It might surprise you that the majority of the world don't actually need 175 tons to be 'translated' lol
Great truck and lovely lady🙂👍
you rock girl nice too watch
Great job, never seen a Volvo Daycab Roadtrain before. Definitely FIFO, regular run Mining, the mines push hard for women in all occupations these days.

going up a very uphill hill and a very badly damaged road carrying a load of over 175 tonnes and going very fast, in Indonesia it is very common,
Volvo 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍si 100/💯
Stupid question: Would she have air conditioning in that truck? Is that optional or is it absolutely required in that part of the world to do those long shifts?
They have good air conditioning. The driver still needs to be outside of the truck from time to time, and I can assure you that 48c is very hot and unpleasant
@@ronanrogers4127 OK, fair enough. I live in the tropics maxes out around 37 and have experienced 40 in Europe and it was too hot to do anything, so yes 48 would be insane.
@@TRPGpilot 48 and add the humidity, sucks balls. temp doesnt drop below 30c at night
@@brocksinclair66 Sounds unpleasant. At least it's not cold.
Can bridges withstand this load? Usually they are calculated for 60 ton trucks and the rest of the bridge with 1 ton/m2
Its a lonely life no matter what country you drive HGVs long distance. In the UK, most are out Monday to Friday, tramping they call it. No life except for trucking. Suits some obviously but the problem is according to a 2019 survey, the average age of a UK HGV driver is 48. The younger generation don't want to do 15 hours days and not be home for a week. Why would they if they can get the same money doing an 8 hour day sat in a nice modern office doing something in IT ? Im 51 and see the appeal in trucking but you really have to love the lifestyle to do it.
Best is VOLVO - only VOLVO Drive !
Volvo domina mesmo...
Sudah di akui powernya kalau volvo truk paling kuat di tempat kerjaku di malaisia rata2 kendaraan yang di gunakan untuk m3mbawa muatan rata2 bermesin volvo

Respect to her, it looks like a very tough enviroment. As for the trucks though, yeah Volvo is great but if i had a choice id take a SCANIA.

Salt of the earth.
I didn't think the Euro trucks had the HP to pull a road train. I've learnt something. Have a great photo of my Sigma under the trailer of a road train. Looks like its pulling it.
so are 10x6 chassis as front tandem axels available only in Australia?
