You would have been mesmerized by her persona. Then the voice. When Aretha sings the listener’s mind expects her to expend great physical effort. Yet the singing is just as effortless as here. I have seen Aretha at least ten times. Besides Ms. Nancy Wilson, Aretha is about the only artist whose live performance was the same as recorded performances.
Ms. Aretha was such a classy & strong Christian lady. Just look at her on that stage...she was still giving it to us until she left this world. She left us sooo many wonderful gifts through her love of music and singing. What a treat indeed. Yes Ms. Aretha, It Was Your Turn to rest from your journey on Earth. I thank you for blessing us with your wonderful gifts you left behind though it is not the same as having you here...you are missed dearly. I bless God for loaning you to us. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Because of her birthday, there was a surreal moment to the show when the band played Happy Birthday and the dancers went out into the crowd and passed out cake. And at her age she's still hitting notes others younger than her can't anymore.

It's My Turn was NEVER A offered to Aretha. She heard it and thought the lyric and melody better suited her talent. So she took her turn. I think you're confusing Upside Down, which Aretha claims she turned down.
She looks to be at a nice weight here but I just saw pics of her at the Elton John gala from last night and she looks like she weighs barely a hundred pounds now.
