    Congratulations Peterbilt, you just killed a legend! Turing to replace it with a printed legend, your paid people saying how much better it is than the 389, the roomy cab, oh that is better, no, we like the 389 cab. We like the low roof in the 389 cab, we like a straight hood nor a slope wedge shaped hood like on the Western Stars 4900EX .

    Aside from the 589, them MX-13’s have an awesome engine brake. The braking power wasn’t limited to just high in the RPM range, but also thru the mid range. I used it in a heavy haul application too.

    • @robbalinski1606
      @robbalinski1606 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm not happy at all with the engine brakes on the paccar compared to my old cummins isx15, x15 blows the paccar out of the water on engine brakes and power. Wish the cummins had the longevity of the mx13 tho, my 2016 is at 900k miles on the clock and zero oil leaks, zero blow-by been very dependable...just laugh-able in the power department.

    • @jamescaliendo1030
      @jamescaliendo1030 ปีที่แล้ว

    Amazing. "New" model with all proven stuff from the tooling and parts bins of W990s and 579's. Keep the 389 headlight buckets and fenders and everybody feels happy. Overcharge and reap the profits. Gotta' applaud the business model.

  • @robbalinski1606
    @robbalinski1606 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Hell of a lot better looking then the w990 horror show. Peterbilt needs to take lessons from freightliner and volvo on storage layout and room utilization. Went from an identical specd 579 as the truck in the video to a 388 single bunk with all the storage options available. 579 was jam packed everywhere and the 388 had vastly more use-able storage even with its older design. I do see they put the 388 hood on the 589, glad to see they kept that beautiful hood.

    The biggest thing I don't like is the dash, I wish they would have got something more comparable to the 389 dash. overall though not a bad truck. Looks just about like 389 at first glance, I'm glad they kept breathers and the west coast style mirrors. I wonder if the hood is as long as a 389 and if it's not a little bit wider with the wider cab?

    • @tommyw.9424
      @tommyw.9424 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would really love to see the BBC measurements. Hood is definitely wider at the rear. I wouldn't be surprised if the hood is slightly shorter, and the same or similar BBC measurements, just a longer cab taking up more of the measurement. I always thought the extra 4 inches the 388/389 short hood and 389 long hood brought to the table over the 379 and 379 long hood were unnecessary.

    Guess I've got to see it in person but I'm still torn. I read something about all this effort they put into it, I think that might have come down to somebody saying we could just take that 579 cab and slap a longer hood in front and only have to build the one cab. We'll slap a classic paint scheme on it and that will help. I will never like that huge one piece windshield.

    No more having to adjust the mirror brackets to change out the breather filters. Will these new mirrors allow you to adjust them up and down as well as left and right? It’s hard to see the trailer tires with the current mirrors. Will this have wrap around curtains or normal 389 curtains? Nice new piece for the inside fender splash guard. Wonder if these mirrors whistle? Looks like we no longer have to deal with the leather on the door becoming unglued. Can not wait to see one in person.

    • @tommyw.9424

      I think it's air. When I took my test a couple years ago I borrowed a new 579 with an air clutch and it was nuts how light the pedal was, I wish all the trucks I drove were that easy. I don't do OTR and typically have to use the clutch a lot even without using it to shift.
