Sugar content can be tricky, and marketing/health claims makes it even harder to discern what’s “healthy”! Let’s dismantle some of the claims and get to what’s “good” for us-and also not forget that how it tastes and the joy you experience matters too!
Probably one of the best videos I've seen in quite a while. Fun, a little education, and tasting new cookies all with a good message at the end. Maybe an idea for a follow up video would be to actually weigh the number of cookies for a serving and see how that matches with the label. I know that can start a whole spiral though...
I hate the "added sugar" designation. As a diabetic, sugar is sugar whether it is natural to the food or not. The only thing that makes fruit a little better is fiber content and in snacks like this, fiber and protein.
Although I do enjoy some low sugar cookies (emmie's coconut cookie bites are my personal favorite), I find that the best way for me to deal with cravings is to eat ONE of the full fat, full sugar baked cookies, preferably freshly made...once I just gave myself permission to eat one big decadent chocolate Chip cookie, I find I don't tend to overeat later... and I feel fully satisfied by it!
Hi Alyssia you look amazing. I always thought to get the real amount of sugar you add the carb total to the added sugar total. Just found out the added sugar is already counted in the carb total. "When you read food labels, the grams of sugar are already included in the total carbohydrate amount, so you do not need to count this sugar amount separately. The grams of sugar listed include both natural sugars, from fruit or milk, and added sugars". Hmmmm doesn't give me confidence in the qualifications of the person that told me to add them together. Yes this knowledge is part of her everyday job.
I’ve been wondering about a few of these.. Dang it, you make me buy cookies! Fat Snax seems like something I would like and fits into my goals right now, we’ll see. I’ve had my eye on a few others but it helps to see the serving sizes compared knowing I probably wouldn’t be satisfied. I polished off a box of those bunny grahams far too quickly once, I agree they are awesome but them bunnies don’t multiply, they disappear 🐇
Excellent video, I love your personality! Would be great if you could do the same thing for 'healthier' ice cream brands, their marketing can be misleading. Thanks!
These nutritional labels would confuse me.. they are so different from dutch/european label. Reading labels isn't helping me to feel relax around food..it actually give me anxiety and a lot of stress.. 😅 I either just want to eat the serving size or/and don't how much I should eat.. and put the item away. so I created a unintended rules because I can't feel if or when I have enough.. it would help if there would be a sensory information label.. I think that would be what my mind really needs.. it wants to know what is coming..
I could live on JUST store bought crunchy or dry (shortbread or digestive style) cookies. They have a sensory profile that I like.. and doesn't change (much) a long the way..

I hear you on this. Sugar is sugar, and also not all sugar is metabolized the same by everyone (health histories can impact). It’s a tough one.
Can you do one with carbs?
Fun idea :)
Thank you for taking the time out to make this video
My pleasure! thank you!
Alyssia, that's one impressive cookie haul, my lovely friend. What's your best tip for making carrot cake muffins?
Thanks Byron! I love using shredded zucchini in carrot muffins!!
Thank you. Wish we had Thrive in Canada.
So do I! thank you
