    You can poke fun at this. Tamiya Panel Liner is not an oil, its an enamel. It has a resin in its formulation, as such you cant thin it with oil thinners like linseed oil like you can with an actual oil paint. I'm not to fond of GW models but always find time for you because you make some great videos. Have a good one.

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Much appreciated man. Yeah I don’t tend to use the enamel thinner with enamels. Right out of the bottle, at least for the Testors ones, they are pretty nice. Mineral spirits in small amounts does a pretty good job at cleaning them off of the models, and it won’t eat through the paint. I have tried mixing them in a cup before, you end up with a nasty ball of goo lol. I do have a little bottle of testors thinner just in case though :)

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It kind of works the same way too. It’s airbrush ready so it goes on really easily, and then you get that nice super shiny metal. It’s great stuff!

  • @pelican4262
    @pelican4262 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This is a really great paint job!
    I think the black oil wash is a missed opportunity however. Black desaturate everything and muddies the color. Even if you removed most of it, it broke the yellow of the shared area. Using a brown or a violet oil wash would bring a lot of subtle tones and variation, as well as not being so damaging to the saturation underneath.
    If you want your panel lining to be black but still use a colored oil wash for shading, you can easily feather an oil wash into another one of another color, and it is a very very quick step for allowing so much more saturation/visual information on the mini!
    This is the ONLY nitpicking I can have about that speed-paint however, this is an incredible job and I can't shut up about the black wash because I see everyone spending hours building smooth basecoats and dunking liters of Nuln Oil over it, ruining all their work and I want it to stop!
    Thanks you so much for your content!

    • @pelican4262
      @pelican4262 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@daoudetemadi8539 that's not the same product of course but both apply a black filter on the washed area which desaturate everything, and both are overused for shading instead of using hues that will not do so much damages to your colors and build additional contrast.

    If you want to get some deffinition on your panel lines but avoid tinting the rest of the surface, you can just touch a little oil/enamel wash to the edges of details and it will flow round them if the surface is smooth enough without effecting the colour underneath, that is pin washing, most armour/aircraft modellers call it the most powerful weathering technique because it can really make a model pop like nothing else! Not all washes are created equal, and most don't work like the GW ones which are more like filters anyway because they tint the entire surface, oil and enamel based washes are so much more versatile and can be used to create a load of effects that you just can't get with their acrylic counterparts, however an enamel wash can absolutely work just like an acrylic one, just with a longer drying time, basically, if you have the time, enamel washes are pretty much always a better option for weathering your models!

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I much prefer enamels and oils for washes. If I need to darken or tint something and have it dry really fast then I’ll go with acrylic, but I like the look of the others much more, and it gives you weathering options a lot quicker too.

      Do it yourself, u can easily do it and have the thickness u need plus you can use different colors. Just grab 2 or 3 oils (black, burnt sienna and magenta will be enough for 99% of your jobs) for example from winton and newton or abteilung502 or any other brand, just look to not be the cheap student line (its worth, it will last forever) and the smallest can of white spirit and you have oil washes for 50 years paining every day...

      @@eBayMiniatureRescues yeah okey, the two are almost interchange able. The upside to enamel is drying or stabilazation time for enamel is shorter.

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it is, the testors enamels are usually premixed nicely too, so the color is stronger and you don’t have to think about it as much as an oil wash.

    just found your channel; do you have a method you use for stripping paint of rescued minis? I've got some ebay rescues with a gnarly primer that hasn't come off after soaking a month in la's totally awesome.

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Welcome! I hope you enjoy the videos :)
      Personally I like to use a sonic jewelry cleaner with the LAs, it really gets in there and gets the paint off. Alternatively, try some 97% or higher isopropyl and a stiff toothbrush, that’s usually my last resort; but it works really well.

    • @charlessnix7547

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No worries on that man, I usually undercoat in black, even when painting yellow. Just do a strong white spray over the top of them and you’re setup for an awesome yellow, alternatively you can do that with pink from the top, then bring in white to highlight the areas you want to be really really yellow. Black in the deepest shadows will looks great, and having the orange brown to yellow transition on the armor will really pop!

    "A great deal" made my eyebrow raise, so I did some thinking. I mean, the carrying case is a nice bonus, I guess, but... that's, after my currency-conversion maths, about $3 cheaper than the brand new UK price for the Warband, with cards and whatnot included. Games Workshop really want to gouge the US market, I know.

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I mean, it’s not the best deal I’ve ever gotten, but the carrying case by itself without the warband is $30, the warband is $42 new. At least in the US. Overall it’s like I bought the case new and got the warband for free.
