Great deck Mitch. I am also going to run the deck with Mortuary in it so the Child goes straight back to the top of my library after it is sacrificed (or killed). Mortuary will also be useful for getting my smaller creatures back with their land play abilities if they get killed.
Haven't seen the comments mention it, but Gift of Imortallity is a reasonable upgrade at under $2. You can stack the triggers of it and Child to wipe the board then reanimate, and as long as there isn't a removal spell after, the gift comes back at end step to repeat as necessary once a turn
Conqueror's Galleon/Foothold would be a great add as well -- it's a great versatile stick for looting, drawing, and repeatable return on a land that would be protected from Child of Alara.
Actually, a lot of transforming lands could see some good play here--they would let you skip over land per turn restrictions, most of the transforms are easy hits, but then also they're just immune to your wipes.

I'm intrigued, what's Jodah pulling out for you in a gate deck? Is There any real core to the gates, other than being a fun alt win-con for slower lands? I've been steadily upgrading my Jodah with shocks and the few fetch lands I could trade my way into. Down to 10 basics and found it flows like a charm. Wouldn't feel comfortable with 10 ETB-tapped lands (the Gates) in the deck now...
I love love love the channel! I built the brudiclad deck and it’s one of my favorite decks. Only thing I wish is that tcg would market and sell those decks for $25. Brudiclad even though I used the optimization it cost closer to 40. Still a great fun budget deck but wasn’t expecting the price tag.

So is Vesuva since maze isn’t legendary. Crucible of Worlds, Splendid Reclimation and Ramunap Excavator are great ways to get lands back.
I believe u could include Bringer of the Black Dawn in this deck. He is basically a constant vampiric tutor and his ability resolves during upkeep right before u draw the card so it's pretty convenient. And yes i know u have plenty of land ''tutors'' but this can tutor for anything although he costs a bit more i guess (7BB/WUBRG). Plus he is a 5/5.
I have played Child of Alara many years and let me tell you: Worthy Cause is a far better sacrifice outlet than Tymaret the Murder King. It is my most optimized deck, running Greater Gargadon as its most sac outlet Also, Infernal offering does not work the way you described. If you were to do that, the on-death trigger would destroy child of alara after the spell has resolved, so you would just blow up the board twice in quick succession, rather than blowing it up and getting it right back to the battlefield for later.
Worthy Cause: You might as well use Life Chisel for the same effect, and not have to pay 3 every time... But then again, it'd get scrapped to Child of Alara.
I want to see this deck revised with the knowledge that child of alara now triggers in the command zone Also I know $2 is expensive for a $25 budget commander deck, but this deck seems WAY WAY better with Courser of Kruphix. Drawing a guild gate just feels bad even for a mazes end deck, getting to neg the bad draw off the top and get the extra gate on the field simultaneously seems really good, and the extra life can actually be pretty relevant.
I run azusa, lost but seeking along with wayward swordtooth and exploration in my gates build. Also amulet of vigor, as it is key to doing many silly things. But more importantly, the key to making it all work is journey to eternity combined with muldrotha. But I also know these cards are more break the bank style, except azusa who would eat up a decent amount of the budget...
so i like this deck a lot, i would upgrade it myself with a more amulet titan approach. So i would put in azusa and primeval titan and amulet of vigor. The titan gives us more lands and azusa just ramps us
So this works sort of like Merieke. As long as you tap and untap it in the same sequence, you can search your library as many times as you have the mana for it.
Another great vid man. I actually dueled against someone last week who used a non budget version of this. It was interesting to watch it go off lol. Ever thought about like a 100 upgrade to precon commander decks?
It was an interesting deck tech, not something I was too enthused about, until the Golden Pig turned out to be Tymaret. Any excuse to use him in a deck is A-OK by me!
Hey! I have a question in regards to searching our libraries for lands, a card like Journey of Discovery, "search up to two basic lands" I am assuming gates do not count because it had a sub type? So we would not be able to use this effect to search for two gates rather than two basic lands? If journey had said "land" rather than basic land I would assume we CAN search for gates. Thanks!
FYI Child of Alara is Much better now with With the recent commander rules change, commanders returning to the command zone now triggers at death. With this change, Child of Alara has suddenly become a much better card, functioning as a board wipe which hits all non-land permanents when dying, and now also returning to the command zone to be used again.this video may need a update and can ran with lower budget maybe now
Eternal offering sadly doesn't set you back up though, the spell has to completely resolve putting child back into play before you can resolve trigger to destroy everything
Doesn't mazes end require you to return it to your hand? Which means only one activation per turn (provided you can untap it when it comes in) or did I miss something?
Sweet video as always. Just as a point of speculation, what would be the most broken under $25 deck possible in edh? Some kind of combo with isochron scepter/aehterflux resevoir?
Just a heads up, I completely forgot that Gateway Plaza is a gate, my apologies! I have updated the decklist to include it.

Also I know $2 is expensive for a $25 budget commander deck, but this deck seems WAY WAY better with Courser of Kruphix. Drawing a guild gate just feels bad even for a mazes end deck, getting to neg the bad draw off the top and get the extra gate on the field simultaneously seems really good, and the extra life can actually be pretty relevant.
I just got this deck in the mail and it's amazing lol
I run azusa, lost but seeking along with wayward swordtooth and exploration in my gates build. Also amulet of vigor, as it is key to doing many silly things. But more importantly, the key to making it all work is journey to eternity combined with muldrotha.
But I also know these cards are more break the bank style, except azusa who would eat up a decent amount of the budget...
I was thinking about making a Maze deck, and here a video apears
I JUST made a gate deck on a deck builder, wierd
so i like this deck a lot, i would upgrade it myself with a more amulet titan approach. So i would put in azusa and primeval titan and amulet of vigor. The titan gives us more lands and azusa just ramps us
I built a Child of Alara deck, except its only the commander for colors, the deck itself is based around 5 color curses.
Have you heard of o-kagachi, vengeful kami?
pffft, if you want a REAL five color commander, check out atogatog and his buds!
LuKe M I prefer chromat thank you
@@comradecameron3726 but is cromat a cannibal? I didn't thinks so.
LuKe M if you want to get technical cannibalism is almost always detrimental to the subject that consumes the flesh.
Yay!! Mitch is doing a Michael Bay-by. :D
Damnit, now I want a Tymaret deck!
So this works sort of like Merieke. As long as you tap and untap it in the same sequence, you can search your library as many times as you have the mana for it.
Part of maze's end effect is it has to return to hand before searching so it doesn't work
I’d love to see a deck for Gyrus, Waker of Corpses! I think he looks super sick lmao
Alternate win condition? Sign me up!
Child of Alara is a great commander. You turn the game into the Cold War and you always have your finger on the button. lol
Lord Windgrace seems like a very reasonable upgrade.
Perhaps bear umbra and hellkite charger for infinite attacks and untaps? Also alternate win condition.
Isochron scepter + growth spiral + wilderness reclamation would be great in this deck
Reclamation doesnt help with scepter
Break the bank on this deck would be awesome
Techically Alara will hit the grave before you choose to put it back in the command zone so you can get its effect
I would add a World Shaper. If an enemy plays land destruction, mill or discard we can actually use it to our advantage
Scapeshift into World shaper lmao
Howdy mate, nice one! When is your next deck coming up?
Heya! Episodes come out on Thursdays and Saturdays. Can’t confirm if they are going to be deck techs or break the banks tho!
Thanks!
Dangit! I guessed wrong again hahah
Shit i've had Child of Alara since I started playing commander and have been meaning to finally build a deck around it. I guess now is my time.
could you do a rob the bank, its a break the bank episode but with a budget thats over 500, would be super cool
When you get a notification and come here in under a minute to see 2 comments already
I think the joira deck, already in the chanel is a good contestant
terra eternal seems like it would be useful, but then, how to protect terra eternal in this format?
