Are you going back to Russia after your graduation? Where did the rest of your two friends disappear towards the middle and end of the video?

That price for a car I found ridiculous. This was not even a high visitor season so for parking there are all day deals like workers use. You just have to look into it and of course a pay by the hour will get you.
The first stop walking the wrong side of Navy Pier. The north side with the road is for deliveries and people fish off it. Though you can get to things from that side, no attractions face that side for a reason.
The excursion to Michigan for a wooded areas and beach was odd as it is Indiana the state that has the State and Federal portions of the Sand Dunes Park. Seemed a very odd choice.
No walking really showed, no riverwalk though not yet full season. Mention of Trump Tower and the building shown was not it and it never was shown nor other Chicago landmarks or buildings, but the bean whose surroundings is being redone.
For a Airbnb I have seen other videos of those who stayed in a neighborhood taking the train into the core. You just check for transit options and choose one with them for easy access to most of places you might want. Just all seems so cut and missing for a world traveler in the know.... as this is the first video I saw. Plenty other videos of non-professionals and many pretty darn good.
Always check weather before on leaves and alter museum days for those days of poor weather ect. Hopefully most days are good weather though early spring clearly will not be best for warmer days. Off season even short notice should find a airbnb fairly easy also near a rail line of direct bus ride.
I am far from a world traveler, but have watch many for just vlogs or locals doing them and many of those one-time visitors did a awesome job especially if a great weather period. Better luck next time as it seems you claim you will be back.

Dari, you keep raising the bar. 😊 This was a wonderful look at downtown Chicago and the shores of Lake Michigan. It definitely brought back memories as my mom's family all came from that area. I am glad you got to enjoy all that you did 😊 and hope you keep seeing more of America! As someone stated, visiting the upper Midwest will give you a unique taste of America (so worth it and it is much, much cheaper than Chicago or NYC!). And you likely would love the Crystal Bridges art museum as well; it's quite impressive and has so many famous American art pieces.

You got me nostalgic for my hometown of Chicago! Yes, Lake Michigan is truly beautiful, so blue on a sunny day, and its view is so expansive that it always looks like more than a lake.
I am one of the Chicagoans who loves deep dish pizza, but Chicago also has a unique thin-crust pizza. As much as I like Chicago hot dogs, I’d recommend that you try a Chicago Italian beef next time around-dipped in gravy and with chopped raw onion and hot giardiniera.
I used to go to the Green Mill Lounge, which is a historic place, for performance poetry. That’s in my old neighborhood.
Autumn is my favorite season in Chicago, but I often go back to visit during December to enjoy the Christmas season. Downtown Chicago has a German-style Christmas market called Christkindlmarket, which is fun.
Tips for your next visit. Ditch the car, especially if you stay downtown. It’s cheaper to use public transit and downtown Chicago is a very walkable city. Also, check out the Field Museum, my all-time favorite museum.
    Glad you loved my hometown!

Actually just take the L. It’s just not worth the expense in Chicago. You can jump station to station easily and it’s like the subway just elevated. Besides you pay parking constantly so really it’s going to add up quick. Every line pretty much goes downtown anyway. Also the south side isn’t bad just it looks that way as some great restaurants are on that side. I know cook county general hospital is on the downtown though it had a rename to stroger hospital. It’s where the ER tv series took place and where John critchton did his entire career as a doctor. He became an author.

    • @Frank-Lee-Speeking
      @Frank-Lee-Speeking 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

That's incorrect. The ER series was SET in Chicago but filmed in L.A. aside from a few scenes now and then showing the L or other Chicago landmarks. Also, Crichton's first name was Michael, he got his medical degree at Harvard, and never actually practiced medicine after becoming a doctor. The ER series was based on the two hour pilot that he wrote while doing his residency.

    • @yugioht42
      @yugioht42 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@Frank-Lee-Speeking actually cook county general was real but it changed names to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. It pretty accurately depicted the hospital. And you are right on Michael’s name I forgot ok.

Our major cities still hold the legacy of America just as they do in Europe. They revere their cities and rebuild them. Chicago did a great job reviving its downtown to a top one in the USA. Plenty of great neighborhoods still. Just here in American, we left corporate America abandon them for suburbs taking their tax-base Create major segregated areas and flight from some areas for a reason we will not mention, only to create those areas of poverty where the could not get low interest FHA or GI loans back-in-the-day so they declined.
Now we still abandon cities taking wealth to a new one and state then their cost skyrocket and them metros once of low-interest like once too hot now all can have AC. Them areas remained cheaper with far less wage increases and growth. Once they get it their prices rise too. All want equity to build in ones homes. Selling in a pricey area to buy in a cheaper one and blame factors other than they made their wealth and ability to sell high.... a new American ideal. Still them areas increase and other cost other then even taxes come to play especially insurances now.
When I hear those saying our cities are not real America I just feel sad for what we became and no matter how far one moves.... you can never hide from being found from above .... and Some of these remote states have skyrocketing prices in those sought after boom-towns.
Rural America is great for key points one seeks them out for. Scenic areas, Federal/State Parks of course and plenty of other aspects as settled by certain European ethnic groups etc. Once the become a new move-to area.... they lose a lot of their original past for endless new suburban areas unless much more remote. Not all small-town America remained intact. My hometown did not. Its downtown besides some couple good places for food and booze.... not much left after shopping centers killed them even its 3 theaters from a boom era are long gone and all the mills that once employed so many.

My first gf from High School through college was Filipino - you can get frozen Lumpia in Asian markets in Queens and
fry it with light oil -) enough to just cover the bottom of the roll then turn it as it cooks
Don’t deep fry it like some people (filipinos) do, otherwise it’ll make you sick after 3 or 4. IMHO
kind of do it like you would a marshmallow turn it just before it burns. Soak out the oil in napkins before you eat it.
It takes some practice but it’s a fun cheap meal.
The soft round Filipino bread (heated) is also very tasty with a fried egg and bacon - makes for a more familiar breakfast sandwich.
Chicago, like most cool cities, and people, takes time to know.
    Cheers

The Italian Beef is a better option at Portillo's. Yes, the hot dog "dragged through the garden" is iconic, but probably not their best option. All of the good/interesting food is high in calories, like their cake shake and their fries.
Other museums to visit are the Field Museum and the Aquarium. I lived in the Chicago suburbs, but didn't visit Chicago nearly enough. Second City is the place where many American comics built their reputation. The comics needed a day job to pay the bills, and you may find them at Debevic's or other nearby restaurants during the day. Many well known US comics like Stephen Colbert got their start at Second City.

Went to a musical, jazz club, Frank Lloyd Wright architectural tour, shopping, art museum, aquarium, art museum again, multiple eating establishments which were incredible, architectural tour on the river, convention centre,Ukrainian village, waterfront, and even attended the Thanksgiving Parade. It was the coldest weather I have ever been in, and we experienced the coldest day(with the wind chill factor) since 1953 for the parade. Then the sky turned brilliant blue as we ate in a pub across from the Museum. I found the people we encountered so helpful and friendly, and would dearly love to go there again! Thanks for the warnings about parking in Chicago, Dasha! If you arrive by Amtrak train in New Orleans, know that the French Quarter is only a few blocks' walk away. Any part of the city that isn't served by a street car could probably be reached by bus or by a ride-share. Coffee and beignets are cheap, and a must, but if you go to the big Cafe Du Monde location on Decatur, visit late at night (after 10 PM) and bring cash. Oh, and back to the train: if you book a room, or roomette, meals are included in the fare. Could be good for touring the countryside. 👍

I had read that it was possible to get very cheap re-possessed houses in Chicago in 2008. Today houses can be got for as little as $40,000 in Chicago. I am surprised that parking is so expensive when houses can be bought for next to nothing.

That price is in .... not so great neighborhoods as all cities have them. Repos I suppose sure much cheaper than normal prices. Just I would not expect a cheap one in the core or best sought areas near the lake. Single homes in a core are very rare. Nearby sure and yes very pricey today. 2008 after the Crash I am sure lots of bargains and I have seen homes for sale now in good areas that are not far over a price if it sold about 2007 vs today. Huge drops in values after the Crash sadly unless you of course got the deal.

The city raised the prices for parking 3x in the past 3 years. The reason is to get people to return to using mass transit: CTA, Metra. Mass transit use is still 50% less than it was before coronavirus. Also, Grant Park and Navy Pier are *the* tourist parking spots and is a big reason the prices there are 2x the rate as other garages around the city.

I would like to go back. I heard the neighborhoods are where a lot of action is too out there, such as bars and restaurants. Kind of how it is in Boston too. I'm sure there are some online guidebooks out there, to say which neighborhood are the coolest now. The Ukrainian neighborhood looked nice. So you should check out more neighborhoods next time too. Edit - Also I saw online, they have a popular "beach" right downtown. With lounge chairs and umbrellas etc. You should check it out if you go in summer.

We spent too much time in the other places, and then we had to rush back. We did not plan our timing too well, lol. But I insisted we at least make a little detour and drive through Chicago, to at least get an impression of it. So that's what we did, we just took a quick one hour tour around downtown in our car. And I'm glad we did that. You can see a lot of stuff in an hour lol.

I’m not an art lover as the Chinese don’t see art very often. I see it more as a reflection of technique. I look at it more as a study of how someone can create something like that using what techniques. I studied mostly the renaissance masters, a little of Greek art, and some modern artists. Honestly i have this pull towards industrial art like Banksy as I am fascinated by how dark something so simple can become in an instant. It’s kinda why I’m drawn to the fallout franchise as its civilization gone bad just by one decision. Banksy I love because of his dark portrayal of civilization as a whole. He puts a question forwards and makes us think. The dismaland project was a masterpiece of the issues of the time and they even created a display of the Diana crash but in Disney princess form and photographers not caring just snapping away. Banksy makes you think about what is going on in the world and it’s your own job to fix it in your own way.

Cleveland was not that much different on parking costs in the downtown area. I avoided the parking costs by finding a safe "Rapid" station to park the car in ( ask the locals or someone who is local for a safe station, don't guess) and then I took the "Rapid" ( Rapid= the name for Cleveland's above ground passenger train) to the downtown area. I often walked to my final destination after I got off the train but I could have transferred to a bus at no additional cost. it was often faster to walk rather than taking the bus. The total cost 24 years ago for a round train trip downtown was $3 verses $12 per hour to park the car after I drove it downtown. ( its municiple highway robbery to pay for parking your car) In Milwaukee they have an express bus system with stations to park your car in to get a bus to the downtown and other frequented locations. An express bus system is when the buses have their own lanes on the 4 lane boulivards and interstate highways and the ability to turn all the traffic lights to green as the bus approaches the intersection. ( the bus never stops at an intersection that has a traffic light) Lake Michigan is a very deep lake and maintains a 50 to 55°F (10 to 12.8 °C ) temperature regardless of the season or time of year. This isn't good for swimming in the summer but becomes very handy in winter, especially if your live about 5 miles from it. It is also nice for walking along the shore on a 90°F ( 32.2°C) summer day. Lake Superior and Lake Huron are also very deep and parts remain at a constant temperature all year round. In my opinion, a hot dog is a hot dog no matter where you buy it. Don't get suckered in to buying a Chicago dog or a Ball Park dog, they are all just hot dogs. Personally, I buy most of my hot dogs at the grocery store. I found Chicago pizza too heavy on the cheese. I like vegetables as well as cheese and a good, not super sweet sauce on my pizza. ( they often put a lot of sugar in pizza sauces) Looking a going clear up to Traverse City, MI to see the Sleeping Bear Dunes over plant shut down but I and my wife haven't made up my minds. It also depends on what my bank account looks like.
