Absolute classic - can’t believe this is 25 years old! Timeless or what?!

She sings certain songs particularly well. Not every song needs powerhouse vocals
Spot on! Madonna in this kind of form is untouchable when doing ballads. Singers with so-called "better pipes" often go off into unnecessary vocal histrionics (ending up sounding worse), but Madonna puts in a stunning vocal performance, but more importantly *emotes* in an understated but powerful way that is not common in most balladeers. This is acting, this is performance.
Absolutely agree with you. Madonna's ballads are always so emotional and heartfelt.
I concur. That's why I always feel M shows more emotion and sincerity than most.
No need for vocal acrobatics or unnecessary yelling that end up annoying you when you’re by yourself relaxing to a ballad.
"You'll See" is one of Madonna's most underrated songs. Absolutely breathtaking and haunting song. My favorite ballad of hers, second only to "Take a Bow," which is my #1 favorite ballad.
I like this song so much that I love its Spanish version '"Veras" too

This song is one of those eternal ballads.... The melody is stupendous, like it hits an ancestral chord in our hearts like very few songs can do.
She has a lovely voice. Far better singer than people give her credit for. Wonderful vibrato.
This music video is a sequel to "Take a bow", which is a beautiful ballad. It would be nice to check it out, too. Big hug!
This was Madonna at the height of her career. Definitely a masterpiece. And so much underrated. All you said is true. A milestone in music history!
One of my favourites. If I remember correctly, this was done around the time of Evita and Madonna went to a voice coach to prepare her for the role. I think it paid huge dividends and her voice was like pure silk. This song is really magic.

to showcase her voice and to show she felt she was right for the part. Also speaking of Evita, they were in talks of making this back in the late 70s or early 80s. Olivia Newton-John wanted to audition for that part if it were to come about. good stuff

Her vocals here had not been vocally trained yet, you could hear rawness (e.g. somehow someday) still on certain lines, it’s Veras that she got trained and it kind of lost the angst she had presented here.
That was also around the time Madonna was taking strong singing voice classes through 1995 and recorded the soundtrack for Evita in October-November 1995. "You'll see" was recorded in September of 1995. You can see how she had worked her voice very well.
This is one of Madonnas vocal masterpieces, Take A Bow is another unreal track. Another of People love Madonnas dance, but Madonna's voice sounds a lot better in Ballads IMO.
The song was a top 10 hit in late 1995 .She wrote and produced the song with David Foster (a huge producer who work with Streisand ,Celine Dion etc ...)The production , the lyrics ,her voice :pure perfection !You should react to TAKE A BOW (her biggest US hit , iconic video and it's the beginning of the story with the bullfighter )
You love ballads you should react to : RAIN (1993) beautiful ballad and video , I LL REMENBER (1994) huge US hit ,THIS USED TO BE MY PLAYGROUND (1992) huge hit and powerful ballad , LIVE TO TELL (from the Confessions Tour ) powerful ballad and performance , I WANT YOU (1995) a beautiful cover of Marvin Gaye (and beautiful video ) ,GHOSTTOWN (2015) , YOU MUST LOVE ME (1997) the song won an oscar , DROWNED WORLD (1998) , SOONER OR LATER (1991 live at the academy awards ,the song won an oscar and Michael Jackson was her date !) And the list goes on and on !
Ghosttown is also great because it is epic and is a power ballad that really fits with this pandemic world
I was 11 yo working on a science project, and then this song came on the radio, and told my mom I need to “sit out” for a second, bc I wanted to listen to this. I was such a baby. And then Ray of Light Came out and her new, clearer voice came out.

This single was released about a year before Madonna starred in the film Evita. In the mid nineties Madonna went through a romantic phase with some gentle ballads and I think this was part of the build up to Evita so she would be seen as more suited to the role, because many people in Argentina didn't want her playing their beloved Eva Peron. Also the look she had in the video's to Take a Bow and You'll See were very similar to the look she had in Evita, which I think was a deliberate part of the plan to prepare fans and audiences to see her in that role which was so different to anything she had done up to that point in her career. She even admitted to begging the Director to give her the part, and to be fair she didn't disappoint!
This was the look she should have now I loved this era......perfection!
My all time FAVORITE Madonna song. Sooo powerful she looks stunning in this video & in Take A Bow.
Live to Tell is such a underrated ballad too, you must react her performance in the Confessions Tour, SO EMOTIONAL

I've been a Madonna fan since she first came on the pop scene, she was so unique and talented to me from day one.
Her appearance and vocals are simply exquisite in the video, I've often listened to this song after my marriage ended.
And yes my children appreciate and love Madonna too.

This is an incredible song. Madonna sings with tremendous passion, empathy and personality. So authentic. Madonna is a legend. It’s time. Grab. Cull. Capture. Seize. Revisit her history. Not kidding. She brought forth the most assertive feminine energy and human energy that pop culture and life as ever witnessed. Books have been written about her influence on society. Actual classes on Madonna’s impact have been taught in colleges. This song is probably my favorite song of hers. Btw. I live in Atlanta. I saw her first concert in 1985 at the Omni which was torn down and replaced by the Philips arena which is now the State Farm arena. When Atlanta was on her schedule, I traveled to other cities to see her. 18 performances. Every tour except the last one, Madame X. Theater style tour. Limited seating. Limited performances. Limited seating. 75-80% of her fans didn’t see the show. So I didn’t feel bad. Can’t wait to see the show. I’m 68. So cool. Not just cool. How great is it that I became aware of her in 1982 when she released her first song “Everybody” and I have remained curious all this time. Lol. Here I am a vintage woman and at 7:03 am in Atlanta, texting about Madonna. Haha. Damn cool

Love your reactions and you know your music..Madonna and her music are so underrated...her ballads especially...but not by her fans..I fell in love with that vulnerability,that beauty,that person in her voice ...she is underrated as a vocalist ..she doesn't do vocal gymnastics ..she foes the showboat but she expresses,she tells a story and as she writes most of her own material it's often her story.I love her strength,even when she's being vulnerable..I love her attitude..but yes her ballads especially and her visual artistry..All the music producers and musicians that have worked alongside her have all been so impressed by her extraordinary musicality..and it's evident in her work..her phrasing..her timing her sense of drama n theatre and yes sometimes live she slips a bit as she's often performing at a ridiculous level of energy and commitment but it's more often she rises to the occasion.

This is my favorite ballad after Live To Tell.
It was during this time that Madonna was taking singing lessons for her Evita recording sessions. That's why her voice is much fuller & richer now than before.

That’s correct. You need to take singing lessons in advance because learning to sing takes time and practice. I believe she studied around 5 months before recording Evita songs in September 1995.
You need to react to “Take a bow” which is the first video. “You’ll see” is a sequel so it makes more sense having watched “take a bow” great reactions btw

@Victoria Lola it was never one of her top 10's, but should have been. It was not was played on MTV at that time all the time as her other hits.. Don't know if you were around then. But a great song.
You’ll see is a brilliant song. Was a hit world wide. Peaked at no.6 on the billboard charts but is a forgotten hit like songs like this used to be my playground, I’ll remember, rain all big hits but forgotten gems due to get huge and successful back catalogue

Dereck - You should really react to 'Bad Girl'. THAT is one of her best ballads. And throw in "Take a bow" which is about what happend before "You'll see".
I'd suggest listening to Madonna's Love Don't Live Here Anymore if you wanna hear another great early vocal performance. And if you want to focus purely on vocals, maybe react to a few songs from the Evita movie soundtrack.

You need to see “Take a Bow, “ bc this video is the sequel. This is also was one of the first songs where I noticed her voice was different than before. This was right after she filmed Evita, which she had done a lot of vocal training for, and I think she’s even said she realized there was a whole part of her voice she wasn’t using before.
Do you imagine how her 1980’s songs would have sounded if she had had this voice?

As other have said this video is a sequel to Take a Bow which was on Madonna's R&B heavy influenced album and was produced by and featured Baby Face. So much emotion in that song also and she sounds amazing!

Btw Take a Bow was number one for seven weeks on the charts in 1995. One of her longest runs at the top of the charts. Truly one of the best songs ever and my all time favorite.
This was our first listen to Madonna’s vocals from her vocal training for Evita. That’s why she sounds even better. The song itself is one of her underrated ballads. You should her her Spanish version of the song, Veras that she sang also!
