Love how you critique even the little details and nuances that many reviewers miss. 0-60 matters yes, but long term livability and quality are more priority to me. Many auto magazines and websites love the Mazda 6, this really goes to show you that their opinions are to be taken with a grain of salt. Job well done!!
I have got my Mazda6 Wagon AWD 2.2 Diesel with twin turbo and 420nm torque a few days ago. This is the best engine option you can get on mazda6. I have tested both superb and passat as well as audi a4. There is no such difference on sound insulation as all those test cars had studded tires. You won't hear the engine noise if you really don't push the pedals. Sound insulation issues is gone with 2016 models. Seats are really comfy, all those security systems and adaptive LED lights are working perfectly. I had to drive on a very bad road for 200km and on any conditions Mazda6 awd did very good job. It was snowy and rainy at the same time. There is one thing that I can tell as cons is that you won't feel how fast you drive the car if you don't check the speedmeter. 160km/h felt like 100km/h. You will feel AWD and twin turbo power on all corners. Handling is just perfect. Ohh btw, Bose sound system on Mazda6 with 11 speakers is fantastic. Navigation could be better but definitely okay. It has wi-fi for live traffic and weather plus very fast blutooth connection between phone and car. This is a premium car imho. Fun to drive and good enough for all your needs. If you love to drive all day long and looking for a comfy, secure and powerful car go for AWD 2.2 twin turbo diesel. There is huge difference between entry level mazda6 and highest level mazda6.
What quality do you mean, when you say that Mazda has less quality then VW? That's maybe a case in some details in interior but overall quality is much higher on Mazda vehicles. Reliability is much greater on Mazda vehicles (like all other Japanese car makers), and all of reliability reports shows that (ADAC..). You have also, for example Auto Build quality report for 2015 (in Germany), where Mazda is 1st and VW 18th. Thats a huge difference, and by my opinion, it's much more important than fact that central arm rest could be shaken when it's in up position. VW's TFSI engines had big problems in past (remember 1.4l...) and those things are not happening in Mazda. And what is also important is a fact that equivalent equipped Mazda 6 is few thousand Euros less than VW...
+neca5292 I think it is perceived quality, I am a big Mazda fan (I drive a 3 myself), but I have to agree, the apparent quality is better in the VWs, I crossshoped the 3 with the Golf, and the Golf does have a better feeling interior, which is amazing considering that the 3 has an excellent interior (specially compared with the competition available in Mexico), I went with the Mazda becuase I already had one, the better warranty, the much better reliability ratings and it was more fun to drive. The golf had a 1.4T and DSG and I had read that they can be problematic...
Here the door built quality test was unfair because the window was open :) ... in a passat, jetta or golf the door2 closing sound gets "worse" as well when the window is down.
Very informative video. I'm about to return my 2015 TDI PASSAT due to the scandal and get a M6 GT , and one of the main reasons is their warranty which in Canada comes with 3 years and unlimited mileage or for a few extra dollars you can get 5 years and unlimited mileage.
For everyone who is especially interesting in the Mazda6 (Facelift), taken from the latest comparison test. In case you haven't seen the full comparison test Skoda Superb vs Volkswagen Passat vs Mazda6 yet, see it here: th-cam.com/video/YLplgsCxY-Q/w-d-xo.html
+Autogefühl Car has a tinny sound due to weight cut in materials. The packing plastic on the center console can be removed with a pair of tweezers. I think the heads-up display could easily be dropped. More of a gimmick than anything else. Overall, a nice car with some faults. Minuses: More powerful engine unavailable, more road/noise isolation
since you know so much about cars and Mazda, could you please tell me how good or bad Mazda's skyactiv engine & transmissions are? I saw in a KBB video comparison to other cars in its class, a fella in the comments section works for Mazda as a salesman and says the Mazda technician says the transmissions crap out on you in less than 100k miles, around 70k. is this true? I want to purchase this vehicle ASAP and want to know can I trust this car to last?
Interesting he never mentioned how many years of guarantee do you get from Vag corporation and how many from mazda? Well you get 2 years (very bad ) and with Mazda you get 10, how about that?
Great review, Thomas! As I've said before: Your attention to detail is just amazing. Will look at the full comparison soon. Have a merry Christmas. Looking forward to 2016 and more Autogefühl!
Great review! One more thing want to know: What about the noise level when driving at the speed around 120km/h, compared with audi a4 or bmw 3series? Thanks Thomas.
wie gut ist diese Mazda 6 2,5L auf die Autobahn mit geschwindigkeit über 180km/h? vielen dank total perfekt und detailliert Fahrbericht! die Beste auf TH-cam.
22:14 Actually i think your sport mode did not engage, you are still able to maintain very low rpms while cruising which also proves you don't have sport mode engaged. that's why you also didn't feel much (at all actually) difference in acceleration. haha! it should say SPORT in orange above the gear display (D) and it did not, sometimes sport button glitches and doesn't engage.
First of all, great review, I've seen some of your reviews and I like how you give attention to smallest details. I'm a Mazda fan. I really like new facelifted 6. Exterior design is very modern compared to kind of a boring VW designs which are made for older drivers, like retired people (60+ age), which is my opinion. Couple of last generations of Passat look quite similar and Germans play safe, let's put it that way, if it ain't broken don't fix it. Well, new Mazda models offer in my opinion sporty and aggressive look and is much more suitable for younger drivers. If your goal is to get attention with this Mazda in public, I'm sure it will work the best for you, cuz I'm pretty sure there is no person who wouldn't turn around to see this beauty in motion :-D I like the fact that petrol engines are without turbo and still very good and fuel efficient although I would personally go for diesel If I were to buy this car, cuz this car is made for longer routes, not really for city driving. On the other side, Škoda Superb looks fantastic, better than Passat in my opionon, but the fact is that lot of people still perceive Škoda as some low-end brand like Dacia or something like that, but both new Octavia and Superb are very nice in my opinion: BTW. I own Mazda 2, and it is funny when you say, this one (6) is not really comfortable for taller drivers... well I'm 193 cm tall and I can fit iz Mazda 2, not the most comfortable ride ever haha but it's fine :P Once again, the best Mazda 6 review I've seen so far on youtube. Keep it this way :-) Greets from Bosnia-Herzegovina
+Gogo90_mo thanks for your support !! Have you seen our other Mazda reviews? Just youtube search 'autogefuehl mazda2' or with mazda mx-5 or mazda cx-5 :)
Every time I see it, I realize that I really like those leather applications (artificial, of course Thomas! :-) on the center console and dash. That looks so classy. (They should have done that on the Talisman..)
You said the passat steering is more "sportive" in your opinion (other than Jaguar and BMW 3)what is the most sportive steering among all the combis you know?? Mondeo?
Very nice review like all your other reviews, sober, neutral and to the point. I almost bought the 2.2D touring after an extensive test. So powerful, smooth, well build and a superb drive, yes saying that owning a vw. Unfortunately the engines break the bank account here in Belgium and while they are green in CO2 etc the amount of cc's kills it. Shame that reliability gets killed by turbo's and exaggerated consumption figures. I've had 2 turbo's blown out on my German cars after warranty and it was expensive. With this Mazda I would have been covered if I had taken the cheap 5 year warranty coverage which is not available here on the vw's
+Autogefühl i like the one mounted on floor more. this car is now in my short list for new company car :) thanks for your reply and needless to say excellent review as usual. good night!
Hi THomas, got a question ask of your goodself, frankely what is your take on the Skymatic Gearbox, is this Technology from Mazda really different from a CVT Gearbox? Would appreciate your take on this.
+jan singh ah ok. Yes Skyactiv is the summary word for all measures they have taken to lower consumption with the classic combustion engines. It is good they score very well in our tests
Maybe more noisy, not the best quality, but for me the best interior design, the best exterior design, and the more important for me the more pleasant to drive.
too bad they sell only the estate with optional AWD in Sweden, and only with diesel engines. in japan they sell the sedan with AWD but only diesel engines. I guess i'll wait for the new CX-9 and see how that one is.
Purplefabian and the diesel fumes cause respiratory problems as well as contain particles that can cause cancer. even plain unburned diesel vapors when inhaled will cause nausea to anyone eventually.

+Muhamad Amar Mazda 6 is a hit in asian market. But rarely seen in the Europe. That is the level of competition it faces from VW Passat and Ford Mondeo. I would definitely go for the Mazda with the 2.2L diesel
I liked the look of the previous model better. The 6 looks more ordinary now and you don't see all the interesting design lines. And the back, with the chrome strip.... A pity, really. I had the previous one and really liked it. The interior of this new one is better, but because of the new design, I'll be looking at another manufacturer for my (well, it's a company car) new car. Even though I would have done it anyway since I like to mix it up a bit.
Very nice review.... i buy 2.5 l gt blue reflex but i must wait on july :( 33 k cost me ... I seee a lot of. Videos on this car but i think u are the best :) have nice daay and do this more and more ;)
The b-roll scene with back and forth movement is a bit annoying. A simple sweep with a slider would be better, or if in a hurry, a gimbal would help stabilize and smoothen the shot.
+Indy Pindy Normal cycle. This generation from 2012, 3 years later facelift, 3 or 4 years later then new generation, so we get the usual 7-8 years lifecycle
It is superb, not Skoda😁 interior and exterior ! Superb Skoda has The bigger interrior space and Passat has more gadgets but mazda it is the most beautiful in class. I don't like very much the back, I have agreed with what you have said about the chrome piece , and the wing mirrors are ugly! People had preferred uglier cars because of so called better fuel economy and cheaper parts. Turbo it is not necessary better! I have know that you are German but it seems that it is just a myth that the German cars are the best! I have known a lot of Audis and VW with all kinds of problems ! I have always had Mazda model 82 , 85 and 87 Mazda 626 and now I am driving a 97 Xedos 6 model with v6 engine and alcantara😁 626 had just rust problems and the Xedos only now has a little rust on the back wheels arches' and no other problems. Please look at 92 Xedos 6 and 9 models and compare design with the square cars if that time ! These Xedos are still beautiful than a lot of 2015 cars !
ChAbAr Really isn't that much with the smaller engines. Atmospheric engines like Mazda's Skyactive concept kan still be driven in a more purist way, It has character and when driving sporty, it takes skill. Also, they are bigger so I believe that they are more reliable. Turbo's might have improved over the last decade, but it's still an extra implementation in the engine that can fail. Also, in case of the downsized engines it's simply a smaller engine doing all the work. There's a reason why VW still hasn't been able to get their downsized options right. So in most cases, the only advantage of the turbo engines is fuel economy. Something that Mazda has been able to match because of the high compression in their SkyActive engines.
+C.L. Oker I'm not implying that atmospheric engines are less reliable. They tend to last longer than turbocharged ones. I'm referring to the surge in power because of the turbocharger. Also, I'm not quite sure that turbocharged engines are more fuel efficient. In my opinion it takes the whole car engineering into perspective.
i didnt take the new mazda 6 for 2 reasons.... look on the front fenders..... look at the huge wave from the headlight going all over till the front door.... that makes the front looks bigger than the rear.... bad optical ilusion.... and the midleconsole.... you can easily move it with very less force.... just grab it and move it sideways.... soooo cheap.... the interior quality in the kia optima gt line is much better... nothing moveable and solide.... the only contra in the optima is the 1,7 turbo diesel engine
Love how you critique even the little details and nuances that many reviewers miss. 0-60 matters yes, but long term livability and quality are more priority to me. Many auto magazines and websites love the Mazda 6, this really goes to show you that their opinions are to be taken with a grain of salt. Job well done!!

@Milan Stankovic: Mazda makes a better interior and more evolved impression to me. Plus I like the naturally aspirated engine :)

+Lavavereisung thats right, yeah. Still it sounds worse than in the others :)

First of all, great review, I've seen some of your reviews and I like how you give attention to smallest details.

I agree with the analysis of turbo vs non turbo gasoline engines (of course on diesel, turbo is better).
Hopefully you can review the New Mazda 2016/17 CX-9 with the 2.5 turbo ( 2.5T ) ?
Thanks

+TechExplorer hey Joe, we cant get that vehicle in Germany regretfully, but if that is possible one day, i ll surely do it

Mate could you make the the description English. I thought first that you made this video in Deutsch
+Kadir Tayyib Erkan The video description is in English?
+Char Oovis maybe he means the big "Autogefühl" sign in the thumbnail. But thats just our brand ...
+Autogefühl pardon I meant the deutsch words in subject also sorry about my bad English :) . I didn't saw the English words :/
+Kadir Tayyib Erkan As we do have a lot of German viewers, I try to implement some German words as well :)
Wow, facelift already?
Its not that old is it?
+Indy Pindy Normal cycle. This generation from 2012, 3 years later facelift, 3 or 4 years later then new generation, so we get the usual 7-8 years lifecycle
+Autogefühl Time flies :)
Thank you.
+Indy Pindy :)
+xedosclau I am not defending any German cars. Mazda has indeed scored very good reliability rankings
A good review, but heads up that the first three minutes are a German guy fondling a car.
You can tell Mazda got a lot of inspiration from BMW
i have closed the door of a volvo and i have felt the difference with others brands
maybe the most beautiful car in the segment, but ufortunatly not the best i quality. And this is sad, because in very attractive, in and outside.
+Andrea Caucino Surprising to hear that of a Japanese car. Can you eleborate on the lack of quality?
Mazda brings up beautiful designs but without turbo charger there is no fun in driving
+ChAbAr but having no turbo also has advantages
+ChAbAr The turbo-charger in most cars isn't being used for 'fun' purposes but more for efficiency purposes.
I meant the push in power that you feel when the turbo is spinning to the max :)

:)
Putting me to sleep, how about some personality?
... worst build quality ever !!!
Just like the CX-5 with loose plastics and noises ...
