Ok, lets clear something up. PENTATONIX IS NOT BREAKING UP! When Avi leaves (and he hasn't left yet) he will be helping them to find a new bass. Every single member of Pentatonix has something they're working on outside of the group. This is Kirstin's side project. She has *specifically* said that she is NOT leaving Pentatonix!
You don't know that for a fact! We'll have to wait and see.
The others - Kevin, Scott and Mitch - have done side projects before, this is a first for Avi and Kirstie, but Avi has used his to break away from the group. So it also means that the others can take this as an opportunity to do the same. You Just. Don't. Know for sure. We'll have to wait and see.
Given Kirstin has said several times now that Pentatonix are not breaking up and that they are getting a new bass, I think that unless we accuse Kirstin of lying, then we know for sure, THEY ARE NOT BREAKING UP!.
Crafty Cat I'm certainly not accusing Kirstie of lying. I've only heard her say it once (but I live in the UK & don't get to see everything put out in real time), however I know that things & circumstances change - nothing is ever in stone. Let's not forget that at The Sing Off, that it was Avi who said on camera that he wanted to do this all of his life and that he wanted to do it with them! Now he's leaving. Nothing is ever set in stone.
There are people saying that he's not leaving, but just taking a step back. But if that's the case, why would they try to find a replacement? Let them all take a step back, do their own things and then come back together again. That is so very unlikely. Just like it's so very unfair to his replacement to say, "Oh hi, I'm back! You can go now!" 😄😄
I don't want Pentatonix to break up. So I really hope that this IS NOT the beginning of the end... but until they make a formal group announcement to say differently (& as far as I'm aware, it's only been Kirstie and Ben Bram who've said ANYTHING - but please correct me if I'm wrong), we will have to wait and see! We cannot, as fans, stand up and make a definitive statement.
Superfruit are releasing their album soon... that's going to be the next big thing on their calendar. Let's hope that they say something about PTX in the subsequent Superfruit publicity interviews. They now have sufficient songs to go on tour, so what will happen then? You see? That's where all the anxiety is coming from. Too many different variables and talents to factor in.
Let's just wait patiently and see. I WANT TO BE WRONG! I hope that I am. I just know that Nothing is ever certain in this life.
Carôle Ceres Just to say, I also live in the UK, but I've seen Kirstin say 3 times now that Pentatonix are not breaking up, and Kevin and Ben Bram have confirmed it. I admit I haven't seen anything from Scott or Mitch's but Mitch's dad said in his blog that Pentatonix will be getting a new bass and Avi will be helping them to choose him. I know what Avi said at the Sing Off but this isn't a few months down the line, it's 6 years down the line and Avi has discovered that life in a high profile, successful group like Pentatonix is not for him. The others are all very different from Avi, who is much more introverted and a bit of a loner, needing time and space to himself which he couldn't get in the group, especially when they were on tour for months on end. Maybe at some time in the future Pentatonix will split, but not right now.
There is some debate about whether or not Avi is temporarily stepping back from Pentatonix or leaving permanently. This is partly due to his own use of the phrase 'stepping back' and something Kevin is reported to have said regarding this as Avi just having a break from the group. If that is true, then any new bass will be taken on on the understanding that it is potentially a temporary position. Either way it still signals that Pentatonix are continuing, not splitting. It is only people getting nervous because Kirstin has brought out her own music and the resulting speculation that has led questions to be turned into rumour to be turned into fact, that has caused so many people to believe Pentatonix are splitting. Superfruit have been doing their own thing, including music, for years, as has Kevin, but not Kirstin. This is why it has been so important for Kirstin to state she is not leaving Pentatonix as it is a new situation for her. It is not new for the others.
You're right, nothing in life is ever certain. We may get run over by a bus tomorrow. However, as far as we can be certain of anything, it is the intention of Pentatonix to continue with a new bass. It is certainly not their intention to split.
I hope that all makes sense. I also hope I'll manage to get this to post as most of my replies these days don't show up (standalone comments are fine).
Crafty Cat Yep! I hear you. I've heard what Mitch's dad posted and I've read what Ben said. I know the PTX history and understand everything that you do. The only thing I don't agree with, is the possibly 'temporary' Bass.
I respect your viewpoint and I kinda share it. But I'm a pessimist at heart I guess, and a realist too! But with everything, time will tell.

Kirstin, I know you probably won't see this comment or care to read it but I, along with so many other people, love the crap outta you and are inspired so much by everything you've done with your passion for music. And as much as I wish I could know you in person aside from Pentatonix concerts etc, and tell you how much you're loved and be a friend to you, we just were born into different worlds on the same planet. She's such a great singer, I wish she had more views. She was very rarely in the spotlight in Pentatonix and I know a few PTX fans who don't like her because they think that she doesn't have that special something that the other PTX fans have, but I think that's just because Kirsten hasn't had a lot of spot light moments during PTX's fast paced career.

I like this one and I heard another one of hers yesterday. She has a great voice and has chosen good lyrics. But I'm a Pentaholic through and through, so I doubt that I'll be buying any of the solo stuff.
Carôle Ceres That does not make any sense, we should support each an everyone of them as individuals, they not conjoined at the hips they all have their own style and talents.
Tenor or Baritone there's no SHOULD about it. I love their sound, style and music AS Pentatonix probably because not only their talent and individual flair that they create as an exceptional a cappella band, but also because of the uniqueness of what they can do with their voices. However, as soloists using traditional instruments, they join the list of other performance artists and are no longer unique!
Avi is no longer a bass singer, probably never truly sing bass again. Mitch can only occasionally hit those high notes in every single song because Scott will balance out either with the tenor or baritone counterpoint. Kevin MAY be able to have a whole album of cello boxing and singing (& I've heard some of his singing and beat boxing & that sounds awesome), but on the whole, unless Kirstie can replicate a range a bit like Mariah Carey she, and they, are all going to join the melting pot of artists out there. I don't have to like that; and on the whole, I don't.
So, I'm likely to be one of a few people who will only be a Pentaholic and not notice what they do as solo artists. But that won't matter to them, they won't need my support by then. In fact, they don't need it now…

She is incredibly talented. This is very techno pop. Not my thing either although it is good for that style,. I wouldn't call it great. I really hope that whoever is influencing her career can give something great to sing to showcase her abilities.

Everyone just take a deep breath, PTX is not breaking up. They all respect each other enough to understand and allow for side projects to happen. First time I have heard her solo work. I have always randomly listened to Pentatonix over the years and every time I would love hearing her voice and always felt she was overshadowed.
