    Hi Rodney, great explanation, but I think you made a mistake in the clean up phase when you shifted the resources to add new ones. You made them slide towards the end of the line rather than the start. That would make it impossible or any player to ever get access to the last 3 resources.

    • @WatchItPlayed

    When counting up the score, do you count the total value of the gold coins (1, 1, 5 = 7), or just the total number of gold coins (1, 1, 5 = 3)?

    Say you land on the small market space, how many times can you do that action in one turn. I also have the same question for the djinn space, If you have enough white elders could you buy more then one djinn. It does not state this in the directions.

    • @chuckm1961
      @chuckm1961 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Eric Reilly Yes, it is clear. Page 6 under Tile Actions says "perform the Action." The word Action is singular not plural. There is never mention of getting to perform it more than once. Then, underneath when each Action is described, it explicitly states "place 1 palm tree" or "pay three gold coins and pick one resource card." If the rules don't state something, you can't do it ... rulebooks cannot negate every possibility under the sun, or they would be infinitely long.

    I have a question regarding the resource (market) cards. If the player before you in the same round buys the card in slot 1,and you land on the tile where you can buy 1 of the first 3 for 3 gc, is it the first 3 cards still there, which are in slots 2,3,4 since 1 was purchased already, or do you have to purchase from the first 3 slots, and only slot 2 and 3 are available?

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The available cards are always counted, starting from those that are visible (so the cards in slot 2, 3, 4 and the first 3 cards in the case you describe) - hope that helps!

    After watching several videos on how to play, my husband and I made our first attempt last night. We ended up with some questions that either weren't clear or we couldn't find answers to in the instructions. 1) When you place a palm or palace on the board, do you pay the coins or receive them at that time? And if not, and they're calculated at the end of the game, how do you know who placed it there? Is it just given to whoever owns the tile with the camel? 2) For the Djin cards, do you always pay an elder (or elder + fakir) to obtain one? Then what does it mean when some of the cards have another cost on them? Is that the additional cost to use them during the game? When using one, can you play it repeatedly throughout the game and just pay the extra cost each time? And finally, if you do play with a Djin, does that constitute your whole turn during a round or can you execute it at the end of the round? Sorry for so many questions but you seem to be the resident expert and we didn't know where else to find answers... TIA!

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      1) Palms and palaces earn you their points at the end of the game: th-cam.com/video/hfvDro2ecFw/w-d-xo.html
      2) The cost you are seeing on the card is explained here: th-cam.com/video/hfvDro2ecFw/w-d-xo.html
      3) If a Djinn has a cost, they can only be used once per turn, only during the turn of the player who controls the Djinn. It does not replace your whole turn, it's something you do in addition to your turn.
      Hope that helps.

    • @1conchale2vertale
      @1conchale2vertale 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WatchItPlayed Thanks so much for the prompt reply! I apologize, but I'm still a bit confused though. When you place a palm or palace it doesn't cost you anything, right? Those are point given at the end of the game to whoever owns the tile with the camel? So it doesn't matter who placed the palm or palace, the points will go to the owner of the tile? And as far as the Djinns go, I guess you pay the initial cost to obtain the card in the first place? And then (if it has a cost on the card), you pay that each and every time you want to want to use its power? For example, last night I "bought" the Urug card which gives me control of any tile that doesn't have a camel, tree or palace. As long as I have the elders to pay for it, what stops me from using that card on every turn to buy as many tiles as I can? Thanks again!

      @@1conchale2vertale These posts are a bit tricky to answer, as there are so many different things you're covering in each one :) Let's try to separate this out a bit. First of all, you have everything right up until the part where you start talking about Urug. So everything you say before that is correct.
      Okay, now let's move onto Urug. I don't have the cards in front of me, and I don't generally give answers on individual cards because that's more than I can manage across all the games I cover (especially since this one was shot in 2014 :) ), but perhaps this thread can help: boardgamegeek.com/thread/1232191/question-djinn-utug

    I came to this *after* buying the game (based on reputation) for a 19-year-old friend who I am trying to draw into board games.
    I was surprised (horrified, really) to see that the game requires you to make use of slaves (who are accurately, but startlingly, depicted). In other words - this light, colorful, family game turns you into a slaveowner.
    Imagine my relief when my boardgamegeek research revealed Days of Wonder changed the slaves to fakirs in later editions*. I rushed to my copy to confirm, yep, it uses fakirs (depicted on the back of the box). Whew.
    I am posting this for people who would have let this keep them away from the game.
    *DOW coming to their senses, if you ask me. Although if you look at BGG, you'll see a vigorous debate between folks with my view and people favoring a "historical" and "not politically-correct" use of slaves.

    how old is this game- still representing human slaves. shame. Game looks good though.

      They did update the game to remove the slaves, but the update was only marginally better. Frankly, games with these elements are not ones I would choose to feature in the future.

      Yah, it’s a shame because I’ve played this game and it’s really fun. But I wouldn’t buy it because of the theme.
