This is the attitude that keeps good jobs from coming to your State. A state with a low population density, loads of open space, many run down impoverished areas, and limited work/career opportunities says “we’re full” and doesn’t want “outsiders” to come in and share the land that GOD CREATED AND OWNS. Seriously, who owns those mountains? And you’re hanging a sign up saying: “my fellow Americans are not welcomed.” Think about that a moment. I can agree if you want to preserve nature and not overdevelop your land, but you’re taking it to an extreme unhospitable state of mind and heart.
@@seviregis7441 run down and impoverished areas are here due to businesses coming in, developing areas, then tanking and leaving the areas with thousands of former employees with no job unless they want to relocate with the company. Case in point, Steelcase. They had a plant for more than 30 years in Fletcher. One day all the employees received notice that the plant was closing in a few weeks. They were offered the opportunity to move with the company to Anne Arbor, Michigan without relocation assistance, or to take a meager severance package which included tuition into a continuing education program at the local community college - where they could receive training in how to properly wash someone else's behind as a CNA. I agree that this is God's country, but unfortunately a lot of the mountains are already privately owned, the beautiful mountain views being dotted with multi-million dollar homes that the people who were truly born and raised here could never imagine being able to afford in their lifetime. A local cattle farm was recently bought at a public auction. Acres of land that for many decades had only seen the footprints of cattle, are now being prepared to become an 80,000 unit community. The property uphill from my own home was for years a horse pasture. Now it is a one way street filled with townhomes with the same square footage of a typical single-wide mobile home that sell for the outrageously low price of $300,000.00. And as far as any run off from the rain which always come heaviest in the early spring and late fall months in this area (a temperate rainforest aka Swamp) it all runs directly through our front yard. Don't believe me? I can hit the drainage pipe from my porch with a morning piss stream, and my yard is a giant mud puddle about 340 days off the year. My fellow Americans always have and always will be welcomed here. I only have an issue when someone comes in because they love the area, and decides that it would be "better" if changes were made to make the area more attractive to tourists. Another prime example of this would be the multi million dollar project in the town of Fletcher involving tearing up sidewalks, replacing the concrete with brick, then tearing up the brick to install street lights and a clock tower that still do not function properly two years later. Oh, and did I mention that this project only covers the area of a single city block? On one road... Where the only businesses that are around consist of a Dollar General, and a discount/salvage grocery store... Once again, I wish to reiterate that if you wish to move to this area, by all means do so. I'm sure you'll love it as much as we do. But please, when you do come - embrace the old saying of when in Rome... We may all seem like some ignorant backwoods hillbillies, but a lot of us are business owners, doctors, lawyers, etc. Most of us like things the way they are, and have no desire to see land being developed, wildlife being displaced, and mini storage facilities popping up like pimples on prom night... I'm sorry if you took offense to what I said before, and hope that if you do visit that you enjoy your stay. I only ask that you treat or area like the national parks and take nothing but memories, and leave no trace.
My grandma is from the Smokey Mountains. She pronounced Appalachian with a "short" a in the last syllable. Since this is a Cherokee word, I'm assuming she is correct... Most of the Old Timers have died out now, but while she was with us, she often commented on the "Florida People" moving in and buying up the old farms. Others called 'em "Snow Birds". I call 'em "Yankees".
@@donkunes8630 In both World Wars, our Allies often referred to Americans as 'Yanks' which was a shortened version of Yankees. This struck a cord with my Grandfather, who grew up in Georgia hearing stories about Yankees burning, stealing and raping their way through his home state during the Civil War. He joined the US Army at age 16 and was sent to the trenches in France. While there, he had an altercation with a Brit who called him 'Yank'. Grandpa took offense with being labeled a Yankee, and this ended up with the two Allies duking it out. The two were forced apart and ordered to shake hands. My grandpa, who stood 6'4", had already gotten the best of the other soldier, and politely reminded the Limey to never call him 'Yank' again!

I live in Miami and took a look at Asheville few months ago. I stayed at the downtown Hyatt. I can't help but chuckle when I hear people complain about the crowding. Around midnight, 240 LITERALLY didn't have a car on it in either direction. I'm debating with myself whether or not it is too small of a city. I will admit it appeared to have a high ratio of crusty people for its size but crime statistics aren't any worse than most places with a Walmart and a hospital.
Very mixed feelings about out of townere moving in - - over the last 10 or so years, I've seen neighborhoods grow into a much more cosmopolitan area, leaving the locals who were less well-off high and dry. Beyond that, a lot of the uniqueness that some of these areas had has been diluted with a generous number of suburban development tracts and yuppie mountain homes. Used to be much roomier out here.
I agree! Haywood County was a very quiet, nice community when we first moved here, with the housing prices reasonable. Now it’s gotten ridiculous! We have so many people moving to this county that it’s driven the prices of houses sky high and pretty much ruined all the places one can go hiking. I for one am NOT happy with this situation but all the local politicians can see is $$$$$$.
The information on these WNC areas could stand to be updated every 3 months . Daily fluctuations , especially claims of rainforest type lands and increased population .
Sequim Washington..same story. There are people leaving the cities in droves, and then there’s me who’s leaving a tiny town (Sequim) because I have to get away from what’s happening here because of the aforementioned situation. So I’m moving to your town :) Ah, the irony.

Asheville and all of the surrounding areas are all rapidly growing. If you're trying to get away from everyone, this is not the area to do that. I liked Hickory better than Ashville, but could see why Asheville USED to be a premiere place to live. It went too liberal, therefore a lot of homelessness and drug use. I saw other unsavory types as well, but I never felt unsafe. I was there 5 weeks ago and saw four bums passed out on the sidewalk right downtown. A woman there had her shirt up to her neck and laid passed out exposed from the waist up. A lot of people there were disgusted with the sight, as they walked by. I could smell what smelled like a sewer along one section of sidewalk in Asheville as the stores in the in town don't let them use the bathrooms. The town itself was very nice, but with a San Francisco vibe of a lot of mental illness and homelessness,. I would recommend that people take her advice and move out of town and out of reach of anything to do with Ashville. My experience is that it never gets better once the rot starts. I checked out Hendersonville and it seemed fine. Went to Brevard as well. Brevard is smaller. If you like smaller check that town out. More like a Mayberry kind of vibe. She is giving out sound advice. Great video.

Since the beginning of the year there has been over 150 calls to 911 for shots fired. My neighborhood has become unsafe. Thefts, home break-ins, assaults, stolen vehicles .... twice in the last year we had attempted break-ins while we were home. Just keeping it real, folks.
What neighborhood do you live in?
Sorry folks, we're full. Even Fletcher is turning into nothing but mini-storage and overpriced townhouses.
😔
@Green Alchemist Patton Ave was the place to be on Fri. & Sat. nights. Now it's just the same ol shops, with heavy traffic, and now more crime than ever. Mcdonald's had someone running from police try to climb in through the drive-thru window, and even more recently someone shot the same building hitting the window. I don't believe anyone was hurt thankfully.
😂😂😂😂
NC, here we come! 🙏🏽❤️🇺🇸❤️🙏🏽
Thank you for sharing your perspective!
yeah labels are good i guess

I happened on your video and found it very helpful. We would love to move to the Asheville area at some point but it's getting very expensive. We would love a few acres with a fixer upper but it would have to be a ways from Asheville in order for it to be affordable.

LOL
Just because you come from a worse place doesnt mean it is ok the trash another place.
LOL. Funny. I have heard the word "crusty" to describe anyone in YEARS. hilarious. 😅😅😂
Miami! Just to park there I need a Xanax make that two!! It really is personal perspective 😂
Coming to a theatre near u.
The very reason everyone is moving to the area is why is being destroyed by the mass amount of people flooding the area.
So I’m moving to your town :)
Ah, the irony.
Which place is the safest and nicest to raise a family, with open minded people, maybe a little hippy and artsy? Nice community. Animal lovers etc. any recommendations?

Yes, prices skyrocketed everywhere, including the Asheville area. It's crazy. Asheville is the most expensive town in NC (the cost of living is the highest).
Raleigh has more job opportunities, it's a big city. Climate is worse in my opinion.
Brevard also has rare white squirrels lol.

Well…actually you can’t find anything decent now for $300K…prices really gone up since 2020.
New construction homes are about $250-300/sq ft not including lot, not custom, mid range quality materials.

Asheville and all of the surrounding areas are all rapidly growing. If you're trying to get away from everyone, this is not the area to do that. These other towns in this video are all growing as well. I don't understand why some people are always acting like Asheville is so horrible. Yes, it's much different than it used to be when it was small town, but I personally like the change. At least the mindset is different and Asheville is progressive finally.
It's all about perceptive

Working on a video about towns north of Asheville!
Please stop videos encouraging people to move to western North Carolina! We already have too many people, too much traffic congestion, over crowded doctor’s offices, outrageous housing prices, and too much tourism! The quality of life for anyone who lives here has gone downhill so much because of the tremendous and overwhelming influx of people. Making videos like this just makes matters worse! I just noticed you are a realtor so this video is just your way of drumming up more business.
Umm ever heard of Candler? Cause In the westerly way it goes Asheville, Enka, candler, then Canton. Enka has a lot of rich folk and Candler is just awesome cause the land was already developed before gentrification. Just curious why Enka/Candler was ignored
