German commander Erwin Rommel was even quoted as saying: "If I had to take hell, I would use the Australians to take it and the New Zealanders to hold it."
"If I'd had one division of Māori, I would have taken the canal in a week. If I'd had three, I'd have taken Baghdad."

Awesome video. I’ve recently got my leg sleeve started. On it I have my 3 great grandfathers who served in Italy during WW2 , 2 of them members of company D of the 28th Māori Battalion hailing from Te Kuiti, the mighty King Country. The design is my 3 great grandfathers running into the enemy line front on down a hill , I’m so proud of my Grandfathers services to our country and every day I’m reminded of what they went through for us all. One of my great grandfathers was killed in action and now lies in the Fallen Soldiers cemetery in Forli , Italy. We will remember them

Kia ora I am travelling to Italy at the end of the month. I will be the first descendant to visit our tupuna Remana Te Hana buried in the Forli cemetery. He was killed in April 1945. His mother died at 98 years of age never to see her son again nor visit his final resting place. She performed the Karanga when the 28th Maori Battalion sailed back into Wellington. I think she would have hoped he stepped off the ship.

I always remember one of the teachers at my high school (Westlake Boys) decided we would respond to Tipene St Stephens pre match haka by doing our school haka. I somehow dont think the power and mite of St Stephens were even slightly scared of 15 skinny white boys from the North Shore doing a haka, Lol:)
