    UPDATE!! In the video I talked about the crack in the fore-end and it having some back and forth slack in it. I called Hatfield and they asked me to email them pictures of the crack. I sent them pictures and they shipped me out a brand new fore-end and had it in less than a week. I installed the new one and it’s perfect, no slack and no cracks. Great customer service on their part.

    I bought a Hatfield. 410 a few days ago 1-2024. It jammed on the first shot. The shell would eject but the carrier wouldn't let the next shell enter the barrel because the bolt would get hung up on the carrier. I took it apart and slid my fingernail along the carrier and it would hang up in the same spot the bolt would stop at. I polished that high spot and rough edges down until it was smooth and the gun works fine. My only regret was not doing a little research on the .410 shell availability and the price. I haven't owned a .410 in years and was shocked at the price if you can get them at all. Hatfield should think about changing people in their quality control department with people that actually know what they are doing.

      Exact same thing I did as well. Runs fine now with both 2.5” and 3” ammo. Yes 410 ammo has increased in price significantly and is harder to find or has been at least for a while. Luckily I stocked up few years back and am good for a while on that

    Just got mine today. Looked at my Hand Stock it`s NOT cracked and the big nut tightens down enough that my Hand Stock is with no play.
    The one thing that I have found so far is that my Choke Wrench will not take out the Choke the Factory put in it.
    My slide is stiff doesn`t want to cycle by hand very good at all just got mine today haven`t shot it yet shells are to expensive to waist to break in . Enjoyed it

      Something that I did to mine that corrects the roughness and cycling problems is I took a fine dremel stone wheel and smoothed every edge of all of the internal action parts that rub together. Made sure there are no metal burrs anywhere inside and it corrected mine completely. It cycles 2 1/2 “ and 3” shells perfect now. I also contacted Hatfield and sent them photo of the crack in mine and since it was new and within the 1 year warranty, they sent me another forend free of charge and now it tightens perfect and there is no looseness in it. Mine choke wrench wouldn’t take the choke out either. I used another choke wrench or a dime or something can’t remember which. Definitely recommend smoothing all the metal parts in the action. You will be glad you did

    With a .410 sometimes a tight choke causes the shot pellets to flaten as they come out of the barrel and scatter the pattern. I shot doves for thirty years with a modified choke Winchester Model 42 and Sporting Clays with the same gun. I still have a thousand burned up .410 huls that have been shot out.

    I have that exact gun and I have had nothing but issues with it. It's a cheap gun for sure, after about 4 shots the gun jammed, took it home and there were metal shaving everywhere, the action was all marred up from the internal parts having burrs all over them. I had to grind everything smooth and it still hangs up like yours when loading a new shell. But at least there aren't any metal shaving anymore and it will keep shooting if you don't mind it jamming every shot.

    • @bcoutdoorsmedia
      @bcoutdoorsmedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sucks that it didn’t fix yours, mine has been doing just fine since. It’s definitely a rough one and it seems this mainly an issue with the 410 only. Most other haulage I have seen in this gun don’t hang up like the 410 which I find to be intersting

      @bcoutdoorsmedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea me too. I had a New England 410 with full choke and it was heavy as heck. Still have it to this day. Way to heavy for the kids really. I did some hand loads of tss and was able to replicate the results from this factory ammo so I may turkey hunt with 410 or 28 gauge from this day forward.

    It's not all about how tight a choke is it also matters what the bore size is in conjunction with the choke as well as the chamber fitment wich can vary depending on the brand of shells , it's more complex than just the choke size

  • @jeramyh9344
    @jeramyh9344 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just FYI, sometimes tighter chokes mess up you groups. If you watch some of the Shotgun patterning videos they talk about it. I am no expert but I guess it "over compresses" the shot. Also, I have 1-12ga and 1-20ga Turkey hunting shotguns. I shot at least 8 different Turkey loads through each gun to see which patterned best out of my guns. My Dad and my Brother both shoot Longbeard ammo with dead on accuracy, but neither of my gun/choke combos like it.

    • @bcoutdoorsmedia
      @bcoutdoorsmedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I would say that probably what happened here with the full choke. Especially with the hardness of the tss shot.

      @jeramyh9344 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bcoutdoorsmedia one of the funnest times I have had was when my Daughter wanted to go Turkey hunting. I got to go shoot two different shotguns to sight in the red dot optics and then I shot every brand of Turkey loads I could find for 12ga and 20ga. at 20-30-40 yards. I still have a stack of Turkey head targets with all the info written on them in the garage. I learned a lot about my guns and scratched my head a few times when ammo didn't perform the way I wanted it to.
      I think you will find that the range you plan to shoot will have a big affect on what ammo you buy. The cheapest ammo in both 12ga and 20ga shot almost the same as the Really expensive ammo. Out at 40 yards and beyond(I shot a few times at 50yds after I narrowed it to 3 types of ammo) is where the expensive ammo started to show its value.
      In the end we could have both used the cheap stuff, my shot was 10yds and hers was 25yds.

    I saw a Hatfield SAS 410 at walmart today for $236. I heard another guy doing a SAS 12ga review say that most people complained about it not cycling properly because they didn't read the instructions carefully. He says they're supposed to tighten the forend nut till snug then back it off 1/2 turn. In his vid his SAS worked flawlessly. Dunno if it's true since i don't have one. The only semi's i own are my old Remington model 11 and 11-48. They work fine as long as i keep the spring recoil syst lubricated. Might try lightly lubricating inside of your receiver and backing off that forend nut 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Btw is that forend nut plastic?..looks kinda plastic.... Post a vid if that helps because i'm thinking might go back for that SAS 410 since price is right.

I think it will work it’s self out either with lubricant or just some break in. I definitely recommend the shotgun even with the cycling if you need a 410 for anything. I think my kiddos will definitely smoke a turkey with it this season. For the price it’s hard to beat.
