On the southwest coast of Sri Lanka sits the resort town of Bentota. Parallel to Bentota Lagoon, the lengthy Bentota Beach extends northward where it splits into Paradise Island, a sandy strip. Canoe Rock is one of the dive sites with a lot of coral. A huge Buddha statue can be found in the centuries-old Galapota Temple on the Bentota River. Lunuganga, the estate and gardens of architect Geoffrey Bawa, is located to the southeast. His brother Bevis's Brief Garden is to the northeast.
