    You mentioned using a 2012 year motor. I was wondering what years of the Ford Duratec engines are compatible with the 2.3; they seem to have something different in the lineage between 2009 to 2012 and 2013 to 2016 and then up. Are all years of Ford's 2.5 essentially the same or compatible?

    • @CalebsCars
      @CalebsCars ปีที่แล้ว

      Modern day metals and oils are much different. On all of my race builds I’ve used 5w30 as break in. No need for a “special break in” just replace after idling for a bit, then again after a few days or week of driving

  • @Mazdaspeed_lifestyle
    @Mazdaspeed_lifestyle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Okay. So I’m just really planting my feet into the mazdaspeed world. What’s the benefit of this. Stronger bottom end ? And whats the benefit of doing the ms3 head on the 2.5 block. Is it basically the same concept as the Honda k20/k24 hybrid motors ? Better compression and better overall platform to build off of ?

    • @bigboostmcgee4211
      @bigboostmcgee4211  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The benefit for me was the cost, I honestly don't know anyone who has pushed this setup so I'm not sure what it can handle. The 2.3 crank is forged and the 2.5 is not so there is the weak point if you're going to push it that far. I'm planning to have high 400 whp and want to be able to run it hard everyday. I did gain a noticeable amount of tourqe that makes it hard to keep traction. If you can afford the time and money to build the 2.3, I would, but if you are in a crunch and just want to rip it again the duratec/mzr 2.5 is the way to go

    • @bigboostmcgee4211
      @bigboostmcgee4211  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well the 2.5 block doesn't have the flange for the oil return, that's why you have to make a new one. As for the rods, if I would have pulled the 2.5 apart first I probably wouldn't have done the rods. I bought them knowing that the stock mazdaspeed rods are the week point and I want to push 500-600 whp daily.

    • @akaitv6606
      @akaitv6606 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bigboostmcgee4211 on the block of the 2.5 in a similar position to the 2.3 there is a large casting of aluminium, has any body tried to drill that out and tap in a connector for return line , apparently the stock rods in a 2.5 will do 450hp , there supposed to be sintered forged whatever that means , will you be rebalancing your crank to suit the new rod and piston combo .

    • @bigboostmcgee4211
      @bigboostmcgee4211  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was on a time restraint since this is my daily and it unexpectedly spun the rod bearing and all the machine shops had over a month wait, so that's why I didn't have things balanced or even the head decked. Nice video but I have a question, since the Mazda Speed is Direct Injection the piston crowns are shaped accordingly to facilitate the injectors spraying directly onto them while the 2.5 pistons don’t have that, they’re designed for regular Port Injection, so I’m wondering how those pistons handle Direct Injection?

    So i retrofitted a 2.5 into my 07 escape it had a 2.3 before trying to figure out how I would turbo it. I know the speeds came turboed but my pcm/ecu is different from the big plug ecu mine has the three pigtails. So you could just do a universal turbo kit, but if you want the mazdaspeed goodies, you would have to swap the head to a mzr head because of the direct injection injectors and you would have to use the mzr engine harness. But I'm sure there are other ways, I just don't know of any.
