This sonata has nursed me through all my worst moments and I've heard hundreds of versions and I have to say I adore this one. Perfect tempo and I know it's not as hyper emotional as Freddy Kemps but Aya seems to enable the piece to speak for itself in the best possible sense - many thanks Aya.
After seeing this video for the first time last week, I am officially now a huge fan of aya. I think she is the best pianist ever. Why? Because of her honest beautiful interpretations without any of these new weird lang-lang type style of frills at all!
This piece came to mind a few days ago, and I listened several times to the selections, but I was still looking for a captivating performance such as this one, as I know what the piece is capable of bringing out. Thanks to whoever found it. Ms Nagatomi did justice to it. Enjoyed!
I keep playing this over and over. I'm starting to realize that this is the defacto perfect interpretation all around... I love it. Plus you are ❤️ beautiful because you are dressed as a pretty asian goth style with purposely satin white skin
@billabongodrum1 Although the English word "pathetic" derives from the French "Pathétique" the meaning is not identical. It denotes more of an extreme sadness and tragic hopelessness. Also it was not named by Beethoven, but rather by his publisher, who was impressed by the sonata's tragic sound (especially this movement). (BTW, it was composed in 1798. Beethoven did not start to lose his hearing until 1803.)
Amazing job !! One of the best interpretations of this piece I've heard. The only criticism I have to give, however, is lighten up on the pedalling, and change more often. But other than that.... amazing job !!!
Impressive transition on the the melody and great patience in keeping the tone of the melody leveled, even in the up scale of this melody you were able to sustain the level of anticipation at the same rhythm. A very hard piece well executed, yet as a true pianist would say it could be a little more passionately played.
Do you need emotions to play the piano? In every recital that I have played I just have a straight face. I don't show emotions on my face, is that alright?
You are an idiot! This is perfection, if there is such a thing. I studied music for many years and have played all movements of the Beethoven Pathetique Sonata and this is one of the best performances in recent years. She is probably making Artur Rubinstein stand up in his grave!

She and her music are both beautiful...

Agree 100%.
Gracias Beethoven.
This is the best performance I have heard of Beethoven's Sonata pathetique 2nd movement.
Jens Petter listen to Yun Di’s
This is a very beautiful interpretation - thank you!
My tears rolled when I heard this! Wonderful performance.

Very very well played.....
You're playing so nice, Thank you for this perfomance!
WOW, I really can feel the emotions from you as that of beethoven's feelings as he dedicated this song to Carl Van Beethoven..AMAZING!
this is amazing!! this piece is not easy to play, and she has mastered it so skillfully!!!! good job:D

I never thought the concept of profundity could be communicated through music until I heard this movement. Astounding.
Absolutely beautiful. X
MUY LINDA INTERPRETACIÓN. UNA SUAVE EJECUCIÓN, DELICADA Y MUY EMOTIVA.
Amazing..Good Job Aya for making this music so beautiful
Wow this is beautiful

Great show of emotion. I think the speed is just right.

No one plays this Second movement better than Aya. Through her wonderful interpretationI can hear young Beethoven on the keyboard. Magnificently done.
The word beautiful comes to mind: A beautiful piece, by a beautiful composer, played beautifully by a beautiful young woman :)
She's awesome and I love her
cute facial expressions :) one of my most favorite classical piece
Well done! It's closer to Claudio Arrau interpretation! Best Congrats!!
Great interpretation. Better than most of those legend players.
Aya you are divine
Perfecto!
This night can last forever ~♪
Exquisite, thank you.

I mean you can learn it in a day. It took myself two days 5 hours playing each to get it by heart.
Dis girl. She's amazing.
beauty and the beautiful music :)
Heaven.
Excellent !
BRAVO ENCORE ENCORE!!!!!! i played this for my recital on april 2, 2011
Magistral. Bravíssima!
Lindo lindo lindo lindo lindo lindo lindo!

Amazing...
Lovely rendition.
I have just begun working on it myself, but I play much slower than most renditions
I love it *.*
So beautiful and emotional...I understand why Billy Joel wrote "This night" !!
more respect needed
Bravo. All the notes are there...very nice start. I would say you still have to find your voice and make the melody sing more.
She is very pretty :) and so is her music.
Thank you for listening of beautiful sound.
It is marked Adagio Cantabile. So the performer got the point across. ;)

who cares wht u music experts think about this piece. as a laymen, I find it beautiful and moving.
what strange comments you get.....you play beautifully....
@carlosmh83 It's because he used a Yamaha. ;)
I do understand what you mean by that, though she does play very beautifully..
Pretty good expression in phrasing but wasn;t that intro sort of loud? It sould be really quite I thought and then louder on the repeat.
Well done :)
Beethoven himself would have shed a tear or two if he heard this
Jim Cha he can’t hear tho lol
I think I have been playing this too slowly.
@ochibicake
you're a bit late : he posted 2 years ago :)
where are you now
Do you need emotions to play the piano? In every recital that I have played I just have a straight face. I don't show emotions on my face, is that alright?
Well feel free to use the words you want :)
Listen to this same pice form Freddy kempf, Its more....ahmm how can I put it....
Musical. This one is too finale jejeje
where's the 3rd movement?
I think it can be played more slowly.
You are an idiot! This is perfection, if there is such a thing. I studied music for many years and have played all movements of the Beethoven Pathetique Sonata and this is one of the best performances in recent years. She is probably making Artur Rubinstein stand up in his grave!
I agree. Most people tend to do it at a slower pace... if it turns out she can't, however, then whatever...
She beats me at the piano.
Does anyone think (as I do) that this piano is a bit out of tune?
matter of opinion.
@whatdchamean This is not a song. Dammit!
fantastic!
but what a bad recording, audio as well as video...
How dare Beethoven rip off Billy Joel like that!
(it's a joke, people, I'm well aware of when both were born)
Slower!
