Today vlog on expediting america we leave off from episode 44 and travel deadhead 20+ miles to Bowling Green Ohio to pick up a load from a heat treatment facility. We are going 500+ miles to Cullman Alabama. We booked this load on the Sylectus Load board. The freight is 2500 lbs and took up most the space in the back of the Mercedes sprinter 2500 170” extended with a high roof. I didn’t expect to have the mishap at the receiver or I would have told them to not push the freight up so far. It blocked my bed from me letting it down so I spent the night up front with my dog Bubba Jo on the bed I built for him. Along the ride I break down what kind of rates you can expect as a “driver” for a owner operator or a carrier. I also breakdown what I made NET after all expenses and the driver split with the van owner.
Great video as always! A little comedy, great visuals, great information, and even some Bubba Joe action! Stay focused and don’t let the negativity from others distract you from your goals!
Thank you Todd! I appreciate your kindness and support always! And I’ll do my best man. I am human but it’s always a plus to be self aware and not let others get to me like I’ve let them at times.
Cincinnati almost to Kentucky
Bubba jo ✌
Always hit that 👍
Before I even watch vid
Always a banger ✌
Thank you King! Bubba Jo appreciates it!
Bubba is like the icing on the cake!
Rollin when I saw you and Bubba Jo snuggled up in the front seat! Another good video. Be safe out there.
Hahaha looked like it shoulda been a girl there instead. But nope it was bubba jo! Lazy ass
Looked a little suspicious if you ask me 🧐🧐🧐🧐
This guy is enjoying his journey for sure!
Who bubba? Lol
I think those parts are the outer basket for the clutch plates in a transmission. When the plates contact one another, the outer “teeth” on the clutch plates ride in that outer basket and it spins and connects the rotation of the inner to the desired output shaft(drive shaft in a rear wheel drive and whatever you call it in a front wheel drive)
I think you’re right
Soo.....I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT!!!! You were going through Cincinnati, Ohio. Yay😊. At 10:48 you can see road signage on the far right that gives a turnoff notice for two lanes towards Louisville and Lexington.
This had been bugging my buddy paulutd69 for the longest time. He loves puzzles and is a BIG FAN OF JEOPARDY!!! He's a trivia whiz and is always tripping me out when we have a few beers watching sports.
Indeed Paul lol
Good video as usual. Be safe out there, driver.
Thanks brother
The king Allen has spoken!
Still watching ur video.!!! Keep up the awesome work
Thank you Moses
On my semi, i have many wireless Blink cameras, inside and outside both my truck and trailer. No one can approach my truck from any direction without my knowing it and recording it. Also, a few curtains over the side windows wouldn't be a bad idea, in case people are snooping.
My windows are so dark but I def am getting curtains still. The blink camera idea is great! Thanks for sharing my friend
Your gonna do good just need to find the loads I won't be able to start until next year but I think I got it figured out good luck man c u n florida 😁🛣💰💵
No rush man. Honestly wouldn’t hurt to jump in anytime within the next two years
Another good video.... You had to share the doghouse with Bubba Jo.... Nice to see some of the difficulties that comes with the territory... Can't get unloaded when it was expected!!!! Now the NAME THE CITY CONTEST???? It's off the 75....but So Far I Am Stumped!!!!!! The interstate terminates in Florida--- so could be somewhere close to your backyard. Cullman Alabama is very close to Huntsville.... Kinda like Space City. Anyways thank you for posting!!!
I couldn’t even tell you where it was. If I had to guess I’d say Montgomery lol! Yeah I had to sleep with the kid. I’m thankful he’s cool with that hahaa
cool video as always. see you and bubba jo on the road !
Thank you for watching Lone Ranger!!!!
Looks like you're on Interstate 75 in Ohio. Just outside Cincinnati. In the 10th minute you are talking about how expediting is not for everyone and then you start filming the road again. Their is an exit for 71&75 to Louisville &Lexington Kentucky. The middle lanes are for Downtown, Riverfront and Second Street. Riverfront Stadium was the old Bengals and Reds home field.
Good eye Lyle. Wow I’m impressed lol thanks for watching and dropping info!
I just thumbed you up.
Thank you Michael! Appreciate you watching and interacting. Sharing your opinions and thoughts is always welcomed here
Sounds like it hurts lol
16:20 worlds cutest desk
I love how you incorporate as much info about what you’re hauling as you can. I’m sure some companies are more restrictive on information. We appreciate what you do! Great content!!!!!
Thank you I try my best to include as much info as possible. I appreciate your words
Tow strap & a cement pole could help you pull that load back.
That was definitely Cincinnati where you were stuck in traffic right before you cross the double decker bridge into Kentucky. Been caught up there several times.
Indeed seems to never fail there. Thanks for watching and paying attention
@@ExpeditingAmerica it’s definitely consistent for sure. It was a nightmare when the bridge was closed for a month because of a major accident. Great video bro. Stay safe out there.
I'm just here to improve the algorithm
Pow! Thank you man! Something so simple goes such a long way! Appreciate you
Congratulations for the videos I'm wanting to get into this job I'm a little afraid because my English is not very good but I'm looking for a van to buy more so good luck good trip if we get on the roads
When u say u make pretty good money how much is that on average? do u mind sharing that? keep doing this, it’s very inspirational, at least for me, im trying to get my own van too
Thanks for watching man. I’m just a driver so I don’t make the big bucks but I gross on average 1800 net about 900-1000 average a great week 1900 slow week 600
You have a good dispatch on your side...is good. I'm going to buy a cargo van to start my business (with cardo van). I have a 53 trailer working in south California.
Yes very blessed to have a good dispatcher and owner of van
Been there before, may that receiver rest in Peace☮️
Lol really? No way!!!
Thanks for the dope content bro 💯keep pushin forward
Any time! More to come!
Another one for the record books!!!❤
Thanks buddy
blessings to you my brother am a class A driver but next year I will be doing just like you I just can't do the big truck anymore
Welcome to the club man thanks for watching and happy new year!!!!
Big Truck? What about a straight truck or Box?
@@paulmiller-wl7we same thing same rules same lifestyle
Where do you like to stay overnight? I stayed at Cracker Barrel when I was doing RV Delivery. I also used the app RV Parky. It plans places on the route.
You know I’ve never stayed at a cracker barrell but imma try that too michael thanks for the advice
I’m a truck driver, I want to start that type of driving.
What company you work for and what companies are hiring for cargo van drivers??? Thanks for your time
My guy great content and info. I am about to buy a high roof van. Do you know the best way I can be my own dispatcher ?
Sign on to a carrier first. Let your MC age then get some load boards
That sucks they made you wait overnight to get their stuff. What if I had to get a motel...what if your van got broken into when you were in motel. I would be a nervous reck. Wow.
I’ve only gotten one hotel in 16 months. I sleep in the van. Nobody messes with a unmarked white van.
Is it just a piece of plywood and carpet for Bubba Joe's platform? I just started bringing my dog and wanted to know how yours just set up for some ideas. Thank you in advance and drive safe
That’s it! With a dog bed on top. Nothing special.
Dude you had them push that up so far your bed won't come down ?
Yeah I thought it was gonna be unloaded that night lol shows what I know🤣🤣
@@ExpeditingAmerica it's all bro. Trust me in my 25yrs of driving I have learned from all my mistakes. And I still learn 😂
@@ExpeditingAmerica so does your fleet owner get part of that $150?
@@justdoitskully they usually give me yeah they usually give me driver assist 100% but layovers especially like that one didn’t change anything for me I was stil going to sleep. And it’s their van I’m using still. But if I use labor to move something I get all that
@@justdoitskully 25 years! You don’t look that old man
I'm sorry bother you. Could you tell me what App you are using?
Thanks again.
No apps. Just load boards mainly sylectus
I'm sure you get this question all the time, but what do you do for AC? I don't have a roof top.
Zero breeze mark 2 for now bout to upgrade to a roof ac
@@ExpeditingAmerica yikes, the ROI on that is loooong.
What kind of recording equipment do you use
An iPhone 🤷♂️
Hey when you do have to sleep in the front what do you use ?
The bed I built for bubba jo does the trick for me. Somehow I get great sleep on it
😂🤣
With this being a heavier load what the MPG your getting
Maybe 17mpg or so! Sorry for the late response. Hope all is well thanks for watching please subscribe 😎
Question my brother. What load board do you use and recommend for a sprinter Van..??
We use sylectus most the time
Parabéns muito bom os videos vou começar nesse trabalho se tem um pouco de preocupação porque meu inglês não é muito bom mais vou tentar e quero fazer viagens longas estou procurando uma van pra comprar Parabéns boa sorte ai boa viagem
Do you think 65 is to old to start expediting?
They are baking pans for making apple pies !😂
🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for guessing but I think he said for automobile transmission haha apple pies works too. Sounds better
Yeah… I don’t have a clue what they are for.
Love the videos… be safe out there, nice job ! 💪🏼👊🏼👍🏼
Is there a reason why you never book a hotel room?
To save money! That would add up very fast!
@@ExpeditingAmerica Dude you deserve a room and a hot shower.
@@olivierauberger all a room is is a bed… and tv that I don’t need. Showers are 24/7 at planet fitness for $20 a month plus gym.
Hey I’m your new subscriber now I love all the video that you make and I have 1 questions do you think Is a good time delivery in winter like in snow stuff and do you think they have a lot load for you out there to deliver? I just bought my cargo van yesterday and I think about I will start my next/ 2 week that’s why I want know some more and I will appreciate it if you explain it for me
A) I would never buy a van or start a business without knowing how I’m going to make money
B) winter slows down but I’ll be running all winter
C) there are always loads but you have to win the bids so nothing is guaranteed
@@ExpeditingAmerica thank you for answering my question It really help
Since you're responsible for the gas and tolls, those are deductible expenses on your taxes , aren't they ?
Gas and tolls are deductible but not like if I owned the van. If I owned it I would get .64 cents a mile toward van and expenses
Is the company you're driving for hiring drivers?
Sorry unfortunately we are a small company just one dispatcher. And can only take 6 vans total
Your dog is the cutest! I want to get into the business but idk how it is for a female. Seems like ALL men 🤷🏼♀️
Bubba is definitely the star of the show! And idk how it is for a female either but there is a female expeditor. Let me find her channel for you.
Her name is @champagne Monet here’s here page th-cam.com/video/Lms040PM8xU/w-d-xo.html
@@ExpeditingAmerica oh wow thank you! I will have to check her out! I’m excited!
So dude this is kind of crazy so yesterday I take that back the day before. I got a phone call from the company that I'm a carrier partner with. And they sent me over to Ventura California to pick up some electrical stuff going to San Diego. But when I got to Ventura I got a phone call saying there's an ad stop go to Whittier first and then down to San Diego so I was like okay so I'm coming back up to San Diego to park my vehicle and go home. And I get a friend to call from the night dispatcher cuz there's a mistake made with what kind of vehicle they sent to pick something up and she says can you pick up in Sun Valley right now and have it in San Francisco by 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning please please do it for me. So dude I'm already tired man. But I need money really bad. And what I do is expedited Hot Shots and I don't cross state lines I just stay in California right now. So I asked her what's the rate on it and she told me $1,566. So it's like 340 something miles up to the Bay Area. So I'm like okay I got to fill up fuel and then I need to go buy my house and get some clothes and then I took a 3-hour nap drop back in my vehicle at 2:00 a.m. and started hitting for the bay area. Now of course I renegotiated that bay area to a flat rate of 1,700. So all in all my loaded mileage for both the San Diego and going up to the Bay Area was 550 Mi loaded. My all together mileage was about 1070 MI.
My pay was $2,594
Now I drive a Chevy 3500 cutaway van. So my mileage will range from about 10.5 to 12.5. And the stuff I had going to San Francisco was about 2500 lb so that cuts my mileage big time. Now my computer we all know is it always right it tells you how many gallons you burned and all that kind of stuff. So according to my computer I burn 97 gallons of gas and my average gas price was about $4.65 a gallon. So all in all I was going 36 hours straight with a 3-hour nap. And I come out after fuel costs at about $2,100 which is really really good. But the thing you got to understand is I do expedited hot shot loads with a company I've been a carrier partner with for 22 years and they're fucking so expensive it's not even funny. So when you look at loading mileage for me as an owner operator carrier it usually comes out to anywhere from about $3 and it can be all the way up to $10 a mile. So in the end when you put together your deadhead miles which is usually a real lot and you're loaded miles I usually average about $2.35 to $6 a mile. And then when I do the really really really local stuff which is Air Freight. Those are usually like from one Warehouse that's the company's customer going 14 miles to LAX and each drop will average Maybe anywhere from $225 all the way up to $400 because you get big time detention time at the airport cuz it takes them fucking anywhere from two to 6 hours to offload you and we get paid like $40 an hour for detention time. But it's really really really really slow right now the slowest I have seen it in 22 years doing what I do. And it looks like I am going to sell my cutaway van right after the first of the year and I'm going to be buying me a nice big high roof long Sprinter van and I'm going to go out over the road again Expediting for the first time in like 10 years man. And that's kind of why I've been watching you a lot because even though you're new to this and you drive for a fleet owner I'm just like looking at your breakdowns of how much you're making per mile and all that kind of stuff you know
Sounds like you get better rates now. Why would you drop down to sprinter rates? I’m so confused man. If you’ve done this 22 years why all the confusion on this trip?
Bro after reading this you should make a video explaining your situation. People would watch and want to learn
@@ExpeditingAmerica because I'm going to go over the road again after not being over the road for a long long time my friend. It's really slow in the expedited on demand industry for local type work it's completely upside down right now. I've made less this year than I made in the last 22 years and dude it's financially has me fucked up right now. My daughter's going to go off to college in another year and a half. And I need to make it least $100,000 a year. And the only way I can do that is to go back over the road again which I really don't want to do but I'm kind of forced to have to do it
@@ExpeditingAmerica my friend I have a TH-cam channel that I set up over a year ago because a whole lot of people in the Facebook groups have been asking me to make videos cuz you know I've been doing this 25 years. It's just that I need to find some motivation in myself to start making the videos. And the funny thing is on my Facebook page I do all kinds of videos with live feeds about what I do and how it works and all that kind of stuff
What up
Chillin like a villain! Thanks for the help! Sorry I’m just now seeing these

Thanks James I try my best to make it as real as possible
