    Useful information:
    -The compressor I use is 15cfm, 150ltr, 3hp and single phase.
    -The head weight is now 70lb and is solid steel.
    -The impact force is roughly 1500lb on a 25mm(1") area.
    -Can forge 50mm(2") steel comfortably with excellent control.
    -Parts cost roughly £350-£650 to build (not including the compressor) depending on your steel supplier.
    - Foot print is 500mm(20") x 400mm(16") and is a maximum height of 1800mm(71").
    -using quick exhausts valves does NOT allow the saftey feature of the new electronic valve. but can still be used if wanted.

    I’m a senior/pensioner who doesn’t believe in retirement. I taught myself to weld, dry and mortar stone work, Harley mechanics, all from YT videos. Doing wrought iron gates got me dreaming about anvils etc. I don’t sell work, just beautifying the home grounds. Thanks for the inspiration. Liked and subbed. Great engaging presentation. 😎🇨🇦❤️

      That is awesome! I failed school and did the same. I now hope to start a metal working club soon for kids who struggle in school with dyslexia, ADHD etc. and show them they don't need to be accademic to be valued and any body has it in them to learn a skill. cheers J

      I don't see it as s disorder. I see it as an adaptable creative strength that can't be restrained nor tamed. These kids just need freedom to be them selves in a creative inviroment without being told what to do. I just want to facilitate safety and good mentoring and unleash their strengths. God willing. Joshua De Lisle ....FYI....doctors in India have recognized the “symptoms” of ADD, ADHD, etc., longer than western medicine. They never thought is was a disorder. They think we are old souls who come back often to complete many unfinished important tasks. Reincarnation aside, for me the point is, a culture recognize our difference and it’s value and found a positive response to our situation. I could go on and on but you are very busy......

    The excitement I had while watching this was sensational! There are so many things I want to say, word vomit. As an aspiring blacksmith/ creator/fabricator the elation knowing you are out there making a quality product, providing the schematics(for a small fee, of course), and didn't even upcharge or inflate the price even after having fallen on hard times. For me, you are a man of vision, integrity and resilience. I hope the road you travel will be paved in gold, because you are a man of excellence, along the likes of Nikola Tesla-rarely seen. I will definitely be buying these schematics in the near future.

    OK guys I just Downloaded the Blueprints and all I can say is I can't believe how simple this power hammer is. I don't think it could be made any more simple. I've been in manufacturing since 1975 and I've been looking in to building a power hammer for the last year and a half. I've looked at all the different types of power hammers and this design is the simplest I have found bar none. Also i think the the price for the blueprints is very reasonable. Mr. De Lisle has hit a home run with this design I wish I had found it a year and a half ago it would have saved me a ton of work. Thank you Joshua.

I'm delighted that the journey I've been on can now bless others. I've made some interesting modifications and upgrades. New video coming very soon. I look forward to hearing how you get on and if you have any thoughts on changes let me know and I'll share it with the rest and update the design. Cheers J

    Super cool and simple design! Have you seen the "KA 75 power hammer" ? It works much in the same way with a simple valve and foot pedal but very different in design. How sensitive is the valve, I mean can you make small soft blows easily? Hard to tell from the video.

    • @joshuadelisle
      @joshuadelisle  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Torbjorn! I haven't I will look. You can get it very sensitive even at 120psi but I can also change the psi to give me a wider control range. It's very different to control and takes a little getting used to. Like controling the sound on a drum kit pedal. I can crack an egg and close a match box with it with a light press almost half opening both sides of the valve. All the very best. Cheers J

    I think you've made yourself a perfectly functional power hammer Josh.
    It's always a great feeling when a self built machine works as you'd hoped and it made me smile to see your enthusiasm. It'll obviously make a huge difference, they're such a huge time saver it isn't even funny, and unfortunately yes that's the difference between making money or not these days.
    Good on you bloke.
    I've made two hammers so far but neither were pneumatic, or for me even. They were both variations on the 'tyre' hammer design and I think Kevin Boys is still running one of them over at Surrey Docks.
    I've got a couple of questions about the pneumatic design:
    The valving seems to be a straight on or off system, either picking the ram up or pulling it down, so I'm guessing the only way to feather that is to switch the valving before it's completed a full stroke? Are you tapping the foot control rapidly when the ram is down to get the lighter blows?
    The other thing that struck me Is that knocking sound every now and then on the lifting stroke. Is that the piston topping out against a hard stop of some sort, either inside the cylinder itself or on the frame? I noticed when you didn't let the piston run a full cycle on the lift the camera didn't shake anywhere near as much as when you did. Feels like there's a lot of shock transmission going through the frame there. Personally, I'd try to run it without hitting that hard stop as much as I could to save wear and tear. Cheap replacement bits still aren't as cheap as no replacement bits eh?
    May I suggest making a hydraulic forging press from a log splitter for your next homebuilt machine? You'll have a full house then, or a full shed at least.
    :D

    • @joshuadelisle
      @joshuadelisle  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much Ian! Yes tapping foot, if I go half through the valve I can get a very light blow by reducing the speed and can adjust the psi for more control range, it's very much like a drum kit. Knocking top is my first gremlin to kill, I'm thinking a rubber washer inside the ram maybe? Tire hammer was one I looked at but wanted it smaller and easier to build. Hydraulic press is one I would love but other than space it's lack of decent power for that, I'm on extension leads from the house still. Fuse hasn't blown yet and wires don't get too hot but can't have any serious power operations, the welder and compressor work off a blue 16amp plug and have to switch it over so they never run at the same time. I am thinking about a gas forge though on the outside of the shop with a hatch on the wall close to the side of the hammer? Thought that would keep excess heat and carbon monoxide outside. Cheers all the very best. J

    • @jonhunter8725
      @jonhunter8725 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nameloc1000 gasifiers will produce excessive Steam if the wood chips contain more than 20% water and when the gasifier is in use and when the chips are under high heat and low oxygen the gases content will travel through the gasifier and most of the steam will condense to the cyclone and the radiator will help condense more of the steam back into water and the filter media example straw will also create more surface area for the steam to condense on. And when you get your gasifier operating properly the only byproduct from the wood gasifier will be activated carbon that has uses in itself

    I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the specs on this hammer I've been looking at building my own and have been looking at many different designs and this is closest to what I have in my head so it's got me really excited to get started.

    I've researched power hammers for about a year. I decided on one yesterday.........then I stumbled on to the greatest "DIY" power hammer I've ever seen. I'm so pumped right now. I showed my wife expecting the same excitement......eye roll. Nevertheless 👊 bump across the pond.

    Full props to you mate I'm in the same boat as you working as a fulltime fabricator and forging on the weekend it's not easy just got to slowly tip the scales to being in the forge more.
    Epic hammer bu the way definitely a step above most attempts at a pneumatic hammer

    Who doesn’t like and want a power hammer. I recently found some of your cancer laser cutting videos and then saw you forging legs for a table. Really like all the information you give and would it be possible to scale down the power hammer for a hobbyist even though yours is about as small as it t gets. I still have to say it’s an awesome hammer you made.

    • @joshuadelisle
      @joshuadelisle  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much. This power hammer design is pretty optimal for forging with, you can't really get it bigger without an industrial compressor and you wouldn't want it smaller as it wouldn't be enough. For something compact, cheap and easier to build do check out the 30T press I made recently. It's probably a better option for hobbyist jobs and upgradeable too. Cheers J
