My husband was a very skilled faller, he could drop a tree wherever you needed it dropped.
It’s a very dangerous job, you are lucky to have him as a good neighbor!
I’ve fell 1000s of trees in my life time and caution is always appreciated, I worked for the government and did work for friends never hit a house but like I said safer is better!

no disrespect i fell timber for 25+ back cut first is always ify but i watched that little tree was leaned all you had to do is tickle the face cut not beat it off the stump thats dangerious
@@brandon9610 I`m with you there I never put a back cut . I always cut my wedge first.
You should get a couple of short, removable forks to go on your bucket, to make it easier to help keep the logs on the bucket when you tip it back to transport them to your log pile. You and your neighbor did a great job at taking down the trees that were a threat to your house during a high wind storm.

Happy Easter! You guys really need a log caddy. It rolls over your log and it attachs on two points lifting the log off the ground. So its like a wheel barrel. And you could move the logs with your tractor or your four wheeler.

Well, some great posts for he barn, and a lot more logs to mill. Before long you'll have enough to start building! I also like the size your fire wood pile is getting too! Warm you when you cut them, warm you when you slit the, warm ou when you stack them and warm you all winter too!

Always thought a Bucket log stop to stop the log from rolling towards the tractor driver might be a good idea. Barn lumber for the new barn just a few meters from door. Nice way to assemble the building materials.
We actually had a county road worker die from a log rolling back on the driver when he was trying to clear a fallen tree on a road, SO BE VERY CAREFUL! All it takes is a tire to hit a rock or something to cause the log to roll.

Make a two wheel axle to put under the end of the tree then lift the other end and tow it

To make those stumps rot faster. Make a shallow place in the middle and pour in some Epsom salt.

Happy Easter to you. A simple hook or two BOLTED TO THE QUICK ATTACHMENT Will keep you from breaking your legs or having log rolling backwards and getting you killed the way your going it's going to happen and I don't want it to safety first. NorthernTool supply has log tongs get one.
I bought the least expensive grapple for my Kioti tractor. It's really great for moving logs and much more. Really enjoy your content.
I would leave the stumps higher, it makes removal a lot easier, the higher the better. Leverage!

Always more comfortable having a professional alongside! Those are some nice trees, will make some good lumber, with the exception of the one with rot. I am fairly new to your channel but have gone back and watch many of them. How did your access issue resolve? I couldn't find a video that said how it was resolved. I am enjoying watching your progress, both of you are amazing workers.

Risky tree cutting but good to have an expert to learn from. Safer all around. Clean up, milling, firewood.
Hi Greg and Katie. Have you seen the technique of using a propane blow torch like your roofing torch to burn wood posts to protect them below ground. The utuber My Self Reliance 2 years alone building an off grid log cabin in the wilderness, start to Finnish shows the technique very well.

Knowing goats as I used to when living on my Uncles farm over Summer vacations, if they see fresh greens they will do their utmost to find a way to reach them, even if it means bulldozing down fences using their horms.

I have fell timber for a many years over the years, remembering back when I thought I was all that and a bag of chips too... well I took a job falling timber, (the actual word felling is just goofy to my ears cause when a go down on my butt in the ice, I call it "Falling down" so whats the diff?) so I was saying that I took a real job falling trees as I was considered by many as quite good at taking down trees in different job sites that were a problem for some person and they would all call me. I get out on the job site and hiking into the forest where such work to preform was done... noticed my breath was getting to me as I was a smoker, and all the sudden getting out to where we would cut timber... it was a bigger challenge than suspected at first. I give myself credit for lasting two weeks before I fired myself. Not only did I have trees that made your blood run cold, you had to fly at it with determination plus speed was quite important. I did not even come close to hurting myself or anyone near me but I couldn't breath, every muscle in my body was crying like a wimp and I knew if I stayed on, I would eventually kill myself as confidence was waning fast. I was smart and let others in great health do this job.. my son who is just now sixty himself heats with wood, and I taught him falling tree 101. 1 as it is a dangerous job. The young fellow helping you does it different than I would but no two tree fellers are the same. Its caution before determination every time, no ifs or buts to it. I keep hoping that you will weld some hooks on your bucket to hook chain to and keep the logs held and safer from tipping from the bucket at the very worst time... the worst time is always when stuff goes south. Or you could weld some chains on different spots on the bucket so you could hook a binder to it and make the log secured and much safer... Greg, you are considered a mans man... bull strong and Katie couldn't find a guy in this whole world who loves her any more than you do. So if a log fell and hit her... she might most likely have a bruise or three. Girls are tougher than we guys think... even so, If she did get hurt when it could be avoided, it would hurt you more than Katie as she would forgive you but knowing you, it would always be there bugging you on why did I not do better for your Katie. Not harping Greg, just looking out for you as a friend from a distance. just some short pieces of chain on say the corners and then if they are not long enough, you could always hook a short piece of chain that also has a hook so it can grab the shorter chain to make up the difference. Just some ideas for you to ponder on.... not a go out and get it done before breathing but a little thing that when done will make you feel safer and most of all keep from hurting even a puppy that runs out and you lose a log off of the bucket.

Site prep is so important. Imagine if you spent another 2 days removing dead, dieing or leaning trees at your built site before there was anything important to not hit.
Another guy I watch is in Michigan called surviving ring worm he builds everything with a chainsaw mill some of it it is crazy stuff but hes enjoying it and he has some interesting builds but he has water issues to but hes been there form 3 years as his soil is to rocky for well drilling I think he needs to look harder for underground streams or water witching as there is water on his property. N maybe think about using explosives as it is not practicval to build roads to bring in heavy equipment

Couple of weld-on chain/clevis hooks on that bucket would be a good addition to that tractor.

I've always wanted to go to British Columbia. The idea of peeing off a mountain or cutting down a douglas fir has always been a draw for me. I won't mention my third wish considering your sensitivities regarding goats. But now I'm too old for such things so I'll live life vicariously through you guys. Get at it you two. You have wishes to fullfil.
Keep going cutting those trees that are high enough to hit the house and buildings if they eventually fall. Benefits: less distance to haul the logs, and dangers are eventually eliminated.
Suggest getting some clamp on bucket forks to move the logs (and everything else) around. Works for my mill. Great channel and vid shots. We are in central Maine and are building an off grid tiny house. I have some questions about your solar. How can I pm or email you? Thanks and Rock on!
Just to put an idea forward, the chips could be put in sacks and sold. Gardeners, people with driveways, paths may buy the chips.
Watching someone who knows what they're doing felling trees says a lot about skills from at least 100 years ago.
