Well, recently , I’m getting into the disc bound planners, but what keeps me from getting them is that we don’t have much variety in the market here in Korea. Not much designs and not much paper varieties, And the price range is bit higher compared to the traditional sixhole blinders. But I’m kind of convinced to purchase this beautiful desk, bound binders after watching your video. Just imagine the beautiful metal discs with a hard cover!
The best way to deal with frayed edges in discbound planners is 1) use high quality, heavier weight paper (such as that sold by Levenger), and 2) reinforce with clear tape or washi tape the edges of any pages that you expect to move around a lot, and re-punch them. Easy peasy, and very effective. Levenger also sells reinforcement strips especially designed for discbound. For closure, either a planner band or a pretty binder clip can work (they both also can function as pen holders). I just bought a planner band with an attached pen pouch from an Etsy seller. Amazon also sells those in a variety of sizes and colors. As far as pages getting caught on discs, aluminum discs make a huge difference over plastic; they’re much smoother, and they come in a variety of colors. Also brand matters - Levenger “mushroom” holes are slightly bigger than that of other brands, so their pages turn more smoothly. Levenger tends to be higher quality in all aspects, actually. You get what you pay for. 😉 For smaller discbound, I believe Arc by Staples sells a super mini version, akin to a “pocket” size.
I appreciate your videos and thank you for the tips. I use both disc and ring-bound planners and find that where you grasp the page and the direction you pull the pages out makes a big difference in if the pages rip or not. With discs the page needs to be grasped at the top and pulled downward whereas pages in rings can be lifted from the side. Thanks again for the lovely videos.
Hi Rana! I use both ring bound and disc bound agendas. I agree with you regarding the pages being frayed over time. When the pages are pulled and put back multiple times, I noticed it doesn't hold its shape anymore and becomes loose. However, I still like using it because of its flexibility and customization---you can fold it back like a spiral notebook, you can move pages around, you can change the size of the discs (1 in or 1.5 in), you can change the color of your discs (gold, clear, etc), and you don't have to worry about having "gaps" on the rings from opening and closing on a ring bound agenda. The disc bound sizes I have are the junior size (half letter) and the regular paper size (8 1/2 x 11). Office Max, Staples, and Levenger sells various covers from pink to rose gold. You can get them in hard cover or soft cover. I just love the versatility of it. Recently, I have been putting them in my Cloth and Paper A5 Agenda Cover. It just makes them look chic! :)
Happy planner does make a smaller size called the micro size planner that supports four discs. I believe it is smaller than pocket. I’ve transitioned from A5 to mini hp. And found that metal discs and heavier weighted paper does help with tearing. Thanks for your video. This and the ring bound pros and cons video was helpful.
Hi love, I'm glad you enjoyed my videos. Yes you are correct that the happy planner has the micro size which are notebooks. They're super cute and I remember I really wanted one. Thanks for watching🥰❤️
You can add folder for storage, but elastic bands to keep it close and as you mentioned use a cover. I love the versatility possibilities for costuming it
Thank you for showing discs some luv!! I luv my mini HP. It’s riding in a moterm personal versa cover and I am in luv with the set up. Pockets galore!!!😍 One con you forgot to mention is price. I can’t find a system that provides cover, dividers and inserts for less than what HP sells some of their planners for. (Even cheaper with a Michael’s 50% coupon!!)
Yes you're right, my friend and I thought of that after I had already published the video 🤦♀️ I guess bullet journalling is also a cheaper method of planning as well. Thanks for sharing and watching hun 🥰❤️
You can use whatever size you want from full page to little. Half letter is also very common (called Junior size at Staples / Tul brand). If you use a thicker paper and be careful to pull them off from the top and not too many pages at once, they don’t rip as easily.

I completely agree that no planner system is perfect and they all come with pros and cons. Thanks for watching 🥰❤️

Thankyou!! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾⬆️⬆️⬆️
You could attach something like a string, ribbon, button hook, etc... To keep it closed!
Hi, they do sell planner bands that’s what they are called by the happy planner and other places to keep the planner in place
Yes and knowing me I'd lose them 🙈😂 Thanks for sharing hun ❤️
