Life is a series of decisions. You never have unlimited options or unlimited time to think, but what you choose in that instant defines who you are. - Kyojuro Rengoku
This is also a good description of Gotouge's writing style. More screentime doesn't necessarily always set the quality of a character and Demon Slayer proves that point.
Rengoku was an amazing, inspirational character, the proof a character can be in the story for short time and still leave his mark in it. Set your heart ablaze

I found it interesting how he and Giyu had a good relationship despite being polar opposites, since Giyu is a deeply introverted and soft spoken water hashira who rarely ever spoke loudly, only when provoked. Giyu also believed in his introduction that “the weak have no rights” and that they were only relentlessly crushed by the strong, which clashes directly with Kyojuro’s ideology of protecting the weak Raiden-style and that the strong were born to help the weak
because of their upbringing. rengoku, despite having a bad father, had a sick weak mother. he promises her that he will protect the weak bc he was naturally gifted. it almost seems like he will protect people as if they were his mother too. *spoilers for giyuu* giyuu has survivor’s guilt. he was a weakling. he lost his sister when she sacrificed herself so giyuu can survive a demon. early on, he lost his friend sabito. giyuu passed out during the final selection and it was the help of sabito, ridding most of the demon, that he was able to pass. when he thought tanjiro died, he was disappointed in himself that he was protected once again instead of protecting.

Kimetsu no Yaiba was and isn’t my favorite battle Shonen, but your character analysis videos have done a lot to help me better appreciate all the detail and hard work Gotouge put in their series nonetheless.
I have a story in my life that Rengoku legitimately helped me with. In history class, we had to make a cover for a portfolio about the civil rights movements of the 60s and onward. It had to encapsulate the danger, heroism, perseverance, and indomitable will of all those in the movements. I chose to draw by hand, and recreate the manga panel where he states, with sword in hand and flames in the background, "I will not let anyone here die!".
Thank you for re-doing an already great video! There is something about Rengoku and Mirio that fascinates me. Like they are anti-anti heroes who are cool and kind with a smile.
It could have been his own way to deter Kyojuro from ever going down the path in life that would end hid life young all for a seemingly impossible goal. Because, logically if he can't learn all he can about being a Flame breather he would give up, right? That's where Shinjuro seemed to underestimate his poor son-
@@madambutterfly1997 That's the funny part in all this. Despite all Shinjuro's best efforts to force Kyojuro down a different path he already ignited that spark in his son long ago. He failed to understand just how much his eldest son was like him, which only fueled him further to be the man he thinks his father used to be. In all honesty, the Rengoku's have a rather tragic life with all the loss and pain.

Tbh, Rengoku had the most unfair fight in the series. He fought an upper moon 3 on his own, he had to step in and die or akaza would go after Tanjiro. He didn't have that acquired ability that was gained later on and the trio are just fodder should they go against akaza at the time of the mugen arc. He fought till the end and was heroic. No wonder Akaza / Hakuji still spoke highly of him in the interview beyond the Sanzu River from the KNY data book. He spoke of Rengoku and not Giyuu nor Tanjiro. And tbh, if they met at a different time and circumstance they could've been great comrades.
Kyojuro was indeed a great character in Kimetsu no Yaiba. He was also a good plot device since he showed the true power of a Hashira, as even Akaza deemed him worthy of joining the Upper Moons. And his amazing fight with Akaza also showed the terrifying power of an Upper Moon, and just how much did the main characters needed to train in order to survive the final arc.

I looked it up, the Kankagari ritual has nothing to do with his hair color, it's instead "a charm to make their child grow strong" (my source is the wiki) and is why his mother had red eyes. @@T_E_G probably, even without including Tanjiro, at the moment he die he could had not be stronger than Muichiro and Sanemi in their final fight which puts him at least in fouth place; as for potential I think he could had been the second strongest among all pillars had he survived enough to get the mark, I would put him above Muichiro since while pure talent, like Muichiro's, matters a lot the series also shows that physicality plays also a huge role in the power level and once again the Akaza fight makes him look good in hindsight in that aspect.
