    Have you ever considered using the M4L device kick buddy, or ducker? Another alternative for being able to litterally draw your perfect compression curve regardless of what type of kick you choose to sidechain it to! Takes out the step of having to use a ghost kick which can be a hassle for any genre that isnt 4 to the floor since the kick pattern usually changes etc

      Yes! I used duck buddy for a while. Loved it! Today I use Kickstart exclusively because I like being able to see the waveform of the kick and adjusting the curve to taste. Regardless, there are plenty of great methods out there.

    This was an awesome one Noah. One thing I have noticed is the ableton 10 compressor creates a ton of clicks. So what I do is use the live 9 compressor (without clicking upgrade) and that seems to alleviate a lot of those annoying clicks and pops. Thanks for this!

      Good looks on the live 9 compressor! I didn’t realize it had that functionality. Going to download it ASAP. Glad you enjoyed the video!

    Also note that some genres like phonk house and some synthwave songs porpusefully sidechain the whole kick (not just the transient) to give that pumping effect

    LFO tool. Love it!

    Have you considered using a sidechained volume shaper like the "duck" vst? You get less artifacts like you do with utility, but with the advantages of sidechaining to a compressor. Nice not to have to draw everything in manually.

      100% Volumeshaper is a great one as well as LFO tool and others. Maybe I'll do a video soon on 3rd party sidechain alternatives. Thanks for the input!

      Absolutely! Thanks a ton for the response! I always wonder if tips I pick up like that have major drawbacks which are preventing everyone from doing it, so any verification these things are just not widely adopted yet is helpful.

    can you make a video about 808 subs vs the sub layer of bass noises with in a set when/where or is the sub following the drums the same sub under the pronouced bass line or count 1 bass hits within deep house / dub your videos are great would love your input

      Hey Trevor, I’d say your main two techniques here are sidechain compression (volume shaping) and EQ. High passing some elements to make room for your sub and sidechaining the transient of your kick to the rest of the synth and bass elements can help you get a more balanced and controlled sound

    how to fix clashing with bass and kick when sidechaining?

    • @SoundsGoodRecs
      @SoundsGoodRecs  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Make sure your sidechain cut is equal to the length of the kick. If your kick has a longer tail, consider trimming it down to 3/4 of a beat or less

    my utility gain knob is not moving when i use automation clip for it. maybe u know whats the problem?

    • @SoundsGoodRecs
      @SoundsGoodRecs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You might have the automation on the wrong knob. I'd double check your automation. If not it might just be a bug and you can close and reopen ableton.

    I use another type filter LPF and 200-250 Hz. Because ugly click its not my way:) Attack to 1.00 ms is better.

    • @SoundsGoodRecs
      @SoundsGoodRecs  ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a lot of great ways to side chain out there. I never considered using just the LPF, I'll have to try that out!

    What's your preferred side chain method?

    • @melodium10
      @melodium10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i just put out some continuous sound instead of leaving gaps. then i use the sidechain and when i sidechain, i just put a bunch of kicks in a track and disable it so that the sidechain happens without the kick

    the easyest way is to use LFOTool and get over with it.

      LFO tool is a lifesaver for sure! Not everyone has it though
