Occasionally I get double vision in my right eye but it goes away in about 30 seconds if I close my left eye. I had shingles in my left eye three years ago so I’m pretty sure that happens because of the damage caused by that lovely virus. It’s not a problem but it’s kinda weird.

I have a double vision since 2018. But the intensivity of this is slways different. Vision is always doubled when looking up-right corner. When looking down I will never have double vision ( but every morning I have a double vision in all positions. To fix this, I need to walk for a 15-20 minutes ). Strees, sport and especially working with computer ( especially reading ) intesifies eye spasm and then I need to look lower, and lower. The stronger spasm I have - the lower I need to look to prevent double vision. In the evening I often cannot look up and even at the center, I need to look down, to see normally. I also have right side headaches with right eye eyeaches at the same time ( but not always, sometimes thouse aches are weak, somtimes a havent aches at all ). Since 2018 my right eye's endure is lowered from 3-4 hours to 20-30 minutes ( after this doublevision wil become stronger and will go from upper-right corner to center ).
My MRI and Ultrasoundinvestigation are ok. 3 ophthalmologists and 1 neurologist could not help me. I don't know, how to cure it. Prism glasses coul not help, because my eye spasms are always different.

@@DoctorEyeHealth , I found out why I had double vision. The internet gave me the answer and the treatment. It was from sphenoid Sinusitis. My right eye had pain in the eye socket, and numbness to the right temple. I took Ibuprofen for the pain. Every 4 hours for over 2 days, then the pain lifted and went away completely. I stopped taking the pills on the 3rd day. Then just over a week, closer to 9 days, the double vision went away completely.
I found the answer on the internet, which several doctors could not find.
Wearing prisms to correct the double vision only made my situation worse. The glasses were straining my eyes.

I suffered from diplopia for almost 2 years. In January I decided to do a check up on my eyes and at first I got a brain MRI which ended up being normal. I also got blood tests for Miastenia Gravis and Thyroid diseases, but no clue of what was causing the diplopia. The ophthalmologist did the cover-uncover test and I was diagnosed with left esotropia. I wore prism glasses for almost a year and yesterday finally I was able to get surgery. I’m still seeing double but the doctor said it takes like a month to my muscles and brain to adjusts themselves. Now I’m just hoping for the best.

After that I don’t remember struggling with my vision anymore but then around age 14-15 I started having double vision out of nowhere which was when I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism/ myasthenia gravis. Im 64 years old and have unknowningly dealt with double vision for about 60 years of that time. The problem became a more significant problem when by chance i was getting prescription glass for blurred vision which is typical for someone of my age.
I mentioned to the opthomologist I see double vision and i was prescribed glasses to rectify the blurred vision and also correct the diagonal double vision. (Prisims)
Result was great i finally resolved a life long learning and reading problem.
However this fix was not without side affects, now my eyes have adapted to the prisms and glasses and my brain can't correct the day to day vision it had encounter without the glasses which it had been doing for the previous 60 years!
I'm a keen surfer and it has become much more difficult to surf or conduct a casual conversation without the glasses.
This side affect isn't discussed by this fellow and by the specialist who would offer a surgical option. I elected not have surgery and will deal with the known not some partial remedy which is the best they offer.
I'm now considering removing the prism from the glasses and accessing the pros and cons of the prism and no prisms.
As long as you know what your dealing with you can adapt.

I recently started suffering double vision, but unlike any of the cases discussed in this video, it was split vision, only in my right eye. I actually had just been to my optometrists a month before and at that point did not have anything like that at that point. Then suddeny, I woke up to double vision, only in my right eye. Plainly, it has nothing to do with alignment of the eyes, since it only effected the one eye. The weirdest part about it is that some days it is quite severe, and some days, like today, my vision is almost normal. It is not an anomaly with the surface of the eye, as it changes, and is uneffected by wearing contacts. In fact there is no difference, no matter which pair of lenses (clear or colored), or if I am wearing my glasses. About 2-3 months ago, I had a similar thing happen. I woke up to double vision, once again, only in my right eye, but it lasted only part of the day, then went away. But this time it has lasted several weeks. I will be calling my eye doctor, but if you had a patient with these issues, what would you suspect could be causing it? 2 heads are better than 1!

I am 54 and when I was 16 I had Buckle surgery in both eyes for detached retina(one week apart) I complained about double vision from the time I had that surgery.. the finger test failed me.. I went to the Don Arnold for the blind in Houston Texas and they detected it and put Prisms to correct it on the eye glasses. The damage from the surgery, floaters that can’t be corrected and cataracts that I don’t qualify to have surgery .. has been a struggle all these years…

This happens when I drink way too much whiskey and drive my tractor trailer through the mountains. I find that wearing an eye patch helps and chicks really seem to dig it too. The worst is when both eyes have double vision (x4) and I'm forced to drive faster to get to my destination and get off the road and away from the maniacs that are texting and driving.

I've had double vision for years now. Been screened for MS and MG. My one doc thinks its caused by a dent in the back of my skill from a fall I had when I was 10. She said there's an optic nerve back there thats responsible for focus 🤷🏻‍♀️. All I know is I could relate to the MS bit in this video. I have several glasses with variable prisms in them and sometimes sharp pain when moving my eyes. I also have scoliosis and there lies a high correlation rate to MS. More will be revealed.

I had a squint which was getting worse and worse. It was so bad, when I was driving down the motorway, my eye sight would suddenly jump to my other eye and my hands would literally jerk the steering wheel. I had to wear an eye patch to drive.
The more tired I got, my double vision got worse. If I closed one eye (didn’t matter which), it went away. It was getting more and more frequent until I had surgery to correct my squint as it was past the degree where other corrections would have worked.
Surgery was a bit freaky as I had to have it awake because I am not a good candidate for general anaesthesia, but it did the trick. It was the best decision I made.

I’m only 29 and I really don’t like the idea of having to live with this all my life. Hopefully, it’s something that can be fixed. For now I am wearing a patch over the operated eye so I don’t get bothered by the diplopia.

    Hi Dr Allen.
I am a Danish student of Optometry.
Regarding double vision and phorias, what is your prescribing recommendation for presbyopic patients with convergence insufficiency, who are not willing/able to do vision therapy?
Do you recommend separate prism base in reading glasses, bifocals, PALs with base in prism, or something different? In that regard, do you know of any lens manufacturers who produce PALs with only prism in the reading segment?
    Hope to hear from you.

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

amazing question! I would usually prescribe either separate reading and distance glasses ( I feel this works best). You could also decenter the bifocal segments based on prentices rule. (thats a fun one). PALs are not recommended in that case. They could also consider fresnel prisms.

I guess I shouldn't complain, my double vision is slowly going away and was caused either by trauma to my left eye or head during a recent car accident (I was wearing my seat belt). I passed out (cause unknown, all tests negative), and had a low-speed collision (no airbags even). My passing out seemed to happen because my BP tanked, but then went very high. Now I very recently was recovering from Covid and took Paxlovid only a short time before accident, so there is some detective work to pursue there. A lot of mystery to me and my health care folks. If anyone also had weird things happen to their BP after Paxlovid, I'd love to hear from you.

@@fadedparadise1615 , it could be that you have High bad cholesterol, LDL.
I went to the emergency room with double vision. They couldn't find anything wrong. They ruled out Stroke, MS, Infection, Aneurysm and Blood clots. They did tell me that my good cholesterol, HDL was low, and my bad cholesterol, LDL was high. I got released from the hospital after 2 days. I then went to an eye doctor at the Veteran's clinic. They couldn't find anything wrong, and gave me a Prism for the right eye in a distance pair of glasses. This doesn't help the problem, but causes a strain wearing a Prism for long periods of time.
Well, after 2 months of this double vision, I started to eat better, some exercise, and over a weeks time the double vision is going away. I don't need to wear the Prism glasses to drive, which wasn't even helping too much anyways.
Get your LDL, and HDL checked. If you have high bad cholesterol, LDL, then this also could be your issue. I think there is inflammation from high bad cholesterol in the blood supply to the eye or eyes.

I had open heart surgery for an aortic dissection and aneurysm. When I left the hospital I had my first episode of double vision. The first three times it happened it was so severe that I couldn't tell what was happening exactlyto my vision. It seemed more like my eyes were independently moving and bluring everything, like my left eye was moving things up and curling to the right and my right moving down and curving to the left. It happened another time in the first week out of the hospital but it was much more mild and I could see it was a doubling (vertically) of my vision. Then it stopped for 4 weeks and then happened again, still mild and what I noticed at the end was if I close one eye the other is normal, only when both are open is it double. These episodes last anywhere from 1-3 mins and then clear up. I talked to nurses including a practitioner, a doctor and visited an ophthalmologist and I have no real answers.

I had double vision and ptosis in my right eye due to myasthenia gravis and I went to a whole food plant based diet and after four months the symptoms went away. I reasoned that I had a leaky gut causing the autoimmune disorder. With the animal protein out of my diet I got better. Please do not discount importance of diet and it's influence on autoimmune disorders.

💯I went plant based a about 3.5 years ago and my eczema cleared up! I also don't get as many upset stomachs as I used to.

I recently had an I exam. I never thought of myself as having double vision. I noticed while doing the covering of one eye and reading the chart across the room that the smaller letters were fuzzy, but they were fuzzy because even though I was only using one eye at a time, the letters were fuzzy because they were slightly each doubled. The doctor didn't seem concerned at all. It was an America's Best though because I just cant afford anything else. So they really didn't do much more than figure what my new prescription needed to be. Should I be concerned? I appreciate your videos. Thank you.

    • @coolnegative

@@brendashenda4249 unfortunately nothing. I don't have finances to seek any resolution. I do notice it's worse when my allergies act up and my eyes get watery. Pretty sure I've had it forever just didn't know any better. Sort of like when you live with a certain pain so long that after awhile your brain just sort of stops paying attention to. It doesn't go away it just becomes a norm for you.

I went to many doctors and they said you have nothing. I have had this disease for a year. I recommend that you have surgery when you have been sick for 6 months. I use my mobile to not feel headaches and dizziness. because what I see is normal. However, every doctor will tell you that you are fine, but if you are six months old, you will have to have surgery. otherwise your immediate vision will diminish. and you will take a mirror at the end like me. During my illness I learned a lot from you and so did you. But you have to have surgery. Although surgery is not a good idea, it is the only way to get rid of it. god bless you

I’ve had this for years and doctors told me to do some tests and if it doesn’t get better I need surgery, I really recommenced you doing tests like one finger near ur eye slowly and try to not make it double
