Totally agree about varric being the one there with solas. With the fact that you can choose a lot of what happened and customize the inquisitor, I had hoped they'd be the one trying to talk him down. Which we'll probably see happen later, but I'm betting that they're gonna kill Varric off in this intro so they wanted him to be the one that trains/ recruits you.
This almost seems like it’s an action based MMORPG without the massive multiplayer component LOL. I feel it’s removed the strategy elements to take a faster paced action pace in order to focus more on keeping the storyline moving in a more cinematic theme. I just played through both Divinity, and Pathfinder games and at times felt I lost track of what the storylines were because the games were so text heavy, huge amount of content and just way too much time spent on gear and inventory maintenance. I like the idea of a faster paced rpg but I prefer strategy and turn based so I hope they are gonna implement more party strategy and slow the combat down.
Handling the "masculinity in crisis" section in chat, while on opioids, holding everything together and being personable, all while remembering cross-media lore details from over a decade ago, flawlessly. Earned a sub for sure.
In terms of Rook just being Rook, I think we may just have to wait to see what he/she does. In DA1, you only became the Hero of Ferelden at the end, similar to DA2 with Hawke becoming the Champion only after Act 2. Inquistion you kind of started with the title as Herald of Andraste due how things played out. I'm sure Rook will get some sort of recognition as we play through the game.👌 Also, I'm sure we will see guest appearances from all our favourite characters, but the reason Varric is there is due to all the books and comics that have come out since Inquisition. Haven't really read them myself, but the gist of it I feel is that he and Harding have been hunting Solas for a while in those books.
From his viewpoint, everyone had ~1000 years to sort shit out, and all they managed was to make war and subjugate each other. They mistreat the elves, mages, each other… the qunari are just as bad, possibly worse. He knows what he’s doing is gonna cause a lot of death, but it’ll be less than has been caused in the last millennia and less then would be caused going forward if things are permitted to stay the same. He’s a pragmatist and a liberator, the only character I found at all interesting in DA:I, and my greatest regret for the new game is you almost certainly can’t side with him.
39:56 It's been awhile since I played Inquisition but you're right Varric and Solas weren't particularly close. The most meaningful interaction I remember is when Varric and Solas debated what to do about Cole and his nature. Solas I don't remember being particularly close to anybody outside potentially the Inquisitior and maybe Cole? But yeah the game acting like Varric and Solas were besties reminds me of Satr Trek:Picard when suddenly Picard and Data were so close Data dieing was left such a scar when in TNG Data dies in an episode and Picard is still able to function no problem if anything he didn't care at all.
People are getting way too worked up over this. The game doesn't act like Varric and Solas were BFFs. It acts like over time they gained a mutual respect for each other and became friends. It's not a contradiction at all, and certainly not given Varric's personality. He's an affable sort and generally ends up being friends with most everyone. If you bother to listen to Solas's banters with various companions throughout Inquisition, he might not have been intimately close with anyone other than the Inquisitor, but that doesn't mean he didn't have _friends_ among the rest of them. It really feels here like the issue is people's limited understanding of what friendship can look like.
@@amypetty5013 It's been almost a decade since I played the game so no I don't really remember all the details of Solas' interactions with the party plus they are bugged and don't fire very frequently at all and need a mod to fix the rate at which they trigger which is unavailable to console players and that's what I played DAI on. I was reacting in the moment and hadn't really thought about it until Slandered mentioned it and thought of another example that was as of now not really a fair comparison since this game is still unreleased. What really would've been breaking the suspension of disbelief is if Solas listened to Varric and stopped and of course that didn't happen. For Varric I'm sure this is Anders all over again and I'm sure he's wondered at least a few times if he did something differently and could've stopped him. I get being irritated at people criticizing DAV in a manner you feel is unfair but don't assume everyone is getting it from where you're thinking it's coming from or are being purposefully malicious.
I’m quite excited to learn more about these companions. Especially the Dalish elf wardens, considering how uncommon it is for the wardens to have them. I wonder what brought Davrin to become a warden? Also, I’m very glad that this Rook was a dark-skinned black man so that I could see how the lighting affects dark skin. In a lot of rpgs black people seem to blend in when it comes to dark environments and not get much thought (I noticed this most in mass effect). But he looks great here and the light bounces off the skin quite realistically! Hopefully there’ll be more 3A - 4C hairstyles, as opposed to inquisitions “shaved” and “cornrows”. Also! If you don’t think Solas and Varric are close, I absolutely suggest looking into their party banter. They have some seriously interesting conversations.
I'm not liking what i see so far but it's more of a personal thing since i long for the days of them making a battle system like DA origins again. but as long as the story is solid and there are some meaty choices to be made ima put up with it. I got issues with the story already that is giving me pause since solas just took out bianca with an eye flash and varrick didn't even react at all. where if you played inquisition you would understand the attachment he has to that weapon and hurting it would have been a big big deal. so either they shortened the scene for the trailer or they are taking some vast liberties with the story and are pulling a MCU on us where new writers didn't read the source material and want to take their own spin on things, oh joy :D for what its worth the fight did flow pretty good all things considered and if the AI has been improved from Inquisition then its going to be a good game imo if everything lines up. (DA. Inquisition on any difficulty besides normal was annoying due to the tactics window being useless- flashbacks to fighting dragons and gd varric is constantly needing to be micro managed). also im getting a feeling since we disrupted the ritual solas is going to get sucked into the veil so he's going to be MIA for alot of the story, your thoughts at 1:06 kinda leaned in that direction. i/m not trusting these writers to stick to the source material from inquisition based on what im seeing they are doing their own thing and idk about this, not instilling alot of confidence that they can pull off an epic big bad villian for more of the story so they got to remove Solas early on.
Soon as I heard we were limited to 2 companions at a time I knew it was going to be ME 3 style combat and that's exactly what it looks like. Like I said, waiting for gameplay payed off. I will admit seeing Minrathos and the gameplay definitely made me hype for the game now. And I read up on the character creator and it sounds amazing. Here is hoping the game is good as they show it
Flemeth DID take the Old God soul away from Morrigan's son, though. That happens no matter what. And the scene you're referring at the end - Flemeth sends something into an Eluvian right before Solas shows up - because she didn't GIVE her power to Solas, he STOLE it from her. It's pretty clera that she knows what he intends and had a contingency plan in place to save herself, exactly the way she did in DA2. There's no way she's dead.
Is it Rook as in the Rookie? If so, I'd expect a more grandiose title by the end. Then again most of them didn't start with those big titles. Really only the Inquisitor happens early.
The three skills will be a very hard sell. Im hopeful that there will be alot of pasive skills that change your basic combos, ranged options and movement action thus making them feel like skills in its own way.
I'm mixed. It's certainly a better showing that than original. I also think that if they are deadset on doing action combat this is a good step. However, I liked a more tactical style. The dropping of a part member still sucks. It was darker are more tonally correct, but there were still quips that felt out of place. It feels like it's destined to be a B game. Which is fine and for Bioware is a massive step up from Anthem.
Character designs are looking a lot better than in the trailer, and the overall feel is a lot less cartoony. Voice acting for the blood mages isn't great - do they all smoke cigars as part of the initiation?
Glad you like it so far. For me this DA veil is a woke safe child game with numbless boring combats with slow motion bosses with pointless followers and the dialogue is totally bland. The look of characters and monsters looks like plastic toys. Not for me for sure.
Im definitely seeing DA2 combat which i love. Im also seeing the Mass Effect power system for character control in combat. Also a fan of that. I personally never used DAO real time with pause in DAI. And being honest, i didnt use it all that often in DAO. Cant wait to be playing DAV.
Jesus people the trailer didn’t suck because it was “Woke” or DEI” it sucked because the tone and art were terrible! Discourse of this game will improve once the outrage tourists leave.
'm honestly really concerned it seems like they made this game for kids and new people and just making it shiny and they forgetting about the old fans that made dragon age is what it is the art style really bothers me demon's only have half bodies now the u i and the combat looks really dumbed down that's for new players tho i was really looking forward to this game but it wasn't made for us sadly hell i don't even think ill romance anyone if the art style is so overwatch looking what bioware games romance is a huge part of it or was it's just sad
The 15 min gameplay reveal looks a lot better than that horrible trailer from the other day but the combat looks too fast and flashy for my liking. Maybe it might be a little slower if you play as a fighter or mage though. Also not thrilled with having to travel around with only 2 companions instead of 3 and not being able to directly control them either. And performance looks pretty laggy in some areas so still seems in need of more optimization. I'm cautiously optimistic but will wait for the full release and reviews before deciding to buy.....
You can choose between the 4 races of Inquisition, I think they didnt put it there because they thought it would be self evident what race the MC was XD

Mashing buttons only, was it diablo 4? Strategy ? Deep mechanics of combat, rpg elements?

I hate the way Dragon Age has gone completely toward an Action based twitch gaming system. It just devolves to mostly spamming repetitive attacks.

Being capped at 3 abilities is pretty not great for any real tactical gameplay imo.
