For us RUSH fans that did not "drop" them in the 80's when they quit doing 10-20 minute prog epics, this album was mind blowing. Power Windows was my first chance to see them live and we sat in line all night to get seats in the tenth row center stage. like many great artists in human history RUSH are more appreciated today then they were when they were making this great music. A hundred years from now people will still be listening to RUSH unlike most of the "popular" acts of our time. 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂
Power Windows, Hold your Fire and Presto have got to go up on people's list of favourite! Seriously, the song writing, musical composition, lyrics and arrangements are at their best on those records. I do love some of the later albums like ''Vapour Trails'' who also got a bad reputation but those 3 are something else completely. It's the most unique Rush! No other music even sounds like this.... Pure Rush. It's too bad the purists don't see the magic in those 3 albums.
@@jacquesjrviens3384 Finally, a person I agree with 100% on the choice of top Rush albums! All Rush music was great when you lined them up with other bands in any era, but when you compare Rush, with themselves, these albums stand out most of all.
I'm a huge Rush fan, and have been since '79, but imo this is where they peaked! The follow up 'Hold Your Fire' was the first album that didn't do it for me, and after that it was just a series of average to below average releases. You could never knock the musical prowess on the later albums, but something was lost that is difficult to explain! 'Roll The Bones' was a slight return to form, but 'Counterparts' was lacking and 'Test For Echo' is undoubtedly their nadir. The next century gave us the unremarkable 'Vapour Trails', the more of the same 'Snakes And Arrows', and then thankfully a real return to form with their Swansong, 'Clockwork Angels'! I know this may come across as someone who can take or leave Rush, but i own all of these albums, and have seen them 17 times between '80 and '2007, so i stuck with them like a true fan would! I believe that when every Rush fan goes to his collection, to pull out his favourite, it is highly unlikely it will be anything post '85. There's bound to be exceptions, but generally speaking i believe this to be the case!
@@surfeit5910 Thank you for being the first to agree with me on this. I love everything from 1980 to 89. To me that is my favourite period. Again I like it all but if I had to keep only 1 decade of Rush, clearly that would be my choice.
@@Katehowe3010 My favorite Rush record is actually Presto, because I consider it to be Neil's lyrical peak, with Power Windows as the musical peak. Test for Echo absolutely was the nadir though. "Virtuality" is a top-5-of-all-time Alex Lifeson riff ruined by arguably the worst lyrics Neil ever wrote.
Yeah, and Presto has some great guitar work in there as well. PW, HYF, Presto, were some great albums for Alex. Imo, the synth era, made Alex a better guitarist.
Yes finally a reaction to my favorite Rush song on my favorite Rush album. "So much poison in power the principles get left out so much mind on the matter the spirit gets forgotten about". Alex's solo outstanding. Rush is pure genius. Thank you Tone Bone. "Far Cry" on Snakes and Arrows album. You'll love that one.
Power Windows, you just confirmed it, is so good. I never heard a sound like this ever. It is so rhythmically, melodious, tempo, perfect bass and drums...and the guitar OMG!!!!I think I rate this album at no 1 from Rush despite their all other great albums
This album is a masterpiece! I have listened to Power Window probably a million plus times, and it still brings me joy every time I listen to it. I was lucky to see this tour live in Seattle on May 21, 1986. The boys played ever song from the album except emotion detector. Geddy’s voice and bass sound are my favorite work from him. Marathon and Grand Designs are impeccable pieces of songwriting. ToneBone is correct when he says Rush is their own genre.
Excellent reaction videos Man ! And the fact that you do lyric videos is essential - especially with Rush songs as you're well aware. Anyway really enjoy it keep it up! thank you
Rush, you move me, you move me, with your buildings and your eyes, autumn woods and winter skies... I will never tire of this band and their warmth, humble intelligence and musical and lyrical curiosity. Wow.
It's an odd song that works really well. "Some world views are spacious, and some are merely spaced." What great lyrics! It was a pleasure the few times they performed this live.
This whole album takes me back to 1985-1986 school semester. The album/cassette came out in the 1st semester, and I was in the 10th grade, at military school, at Marion Military Institute, in Marion, Alabama. For the weekends, cadets could drive home if they lived close enough. Mark Lacky, Luis Armando Salaveria, Sean Hales and myself had homes in the same area of Mississippi. "Power Windows" was in the cassette deck for the Friday evening drive back home, and for the drive back, Sunday afternoon.
Love love love this song... in my top ten A song that opened my eyes to many experiences in my life that resonated with me at that time. Such a catchy song...
A fan of Rush throughout their changes of style etc I love every album. Neil's lyrics always take me on a trip and the music never fails to blow me away!!
Hi Mr ToneBone! It's never too late to find something great. This album wasn't appreciated at the time... I mean in general, but to me it was my first RUSH album and from that moment I knew I had found something special. I live in Finland but we had so many RUSH fans that they came here and ofc I went to see them. The strange thing with their music is: It is complex but still often the lyrics are about life in general.
Every solo on Power Windows is amazing. Alex was on FIRE from ‘81 to ‘89. People just want to whine about keyboards while Alex was tearing up the frets. And in an era with so much cheap ass guitar playing where solos were stitched together from multiple takes in the studio. (Yeah, I’m looking at you Eddie.)
I was a huge Permanent Waves, Signals and GUP fan. In years since, Power Windows has evolved as a favorite. I thought at the time it was drenched in too much synth. But as I listen to it more, I hear some outstanding Lifeson licks.
First!! Love your Rush reactions as usual my friend. The next album you should check out is Clockwork Angels, their final album and it’s the perfect swan song. If you do, make sure you listen to the songs in order, it’s a concept album.
And their final song ever, was..."the garden" As Neil's final lyrical attribute to the fans, and as he explains in interviews, .." treat life as if it was a garden, with gentle care and love, and it will prosper"

The song is subjectivity about the sin of being caught up in mainstream production that can rob you of your sense of autonomy or individuality. The whole album is objectively about the pro’s/con’s of having power in the world. Beyond the message, PWs is a masterpiece that was written right at the aggregate physical/mental peak of their lives and most of the album is upbeat, fast, powerful, mid-80s style production/arrangements, and intrinsically exuberant sound coming from each instrument... - Geddy’s best vocal sound - Geddy’s incredible sound of his new Wal bass - it makes the entire album - Geddy’s moog pedals are incredible on every song, compliments every arrangement/keys - Neil’s lyrics easily his best (of the best) you can tell how much they matured - Alex takes on a new mixture of power chord horn blasts and alternating arpeggios throughout the album with a guitar that sounds like he plugged it right into the amp without any effects whatsoever - really interesting. Everyone brought their A game but just as important, every song has a catchy/inviting melody you can listen to over and over - learning and hearing something new on each listen! Simply the best!
Geddy was taking vocal lessons following removal of a node afterthe Grace Under Pressure tour. I think the string of albums from Signals through Counterparts are some of Geddy’s best as a true vocalist.

In 1974 RUSH was "discovered" in America when they played at the Agora Ballroom in Cleveland, Ohio in August 1974. This is the "Famous" concert that launched RUSH's career. Neil Peart has just replaced John Rutsey in July and less than a month later they had this historically significant concert in support of their album. The music director of radio station WMMS, Donna Halper, has been credited to "discovering" RUSH in the US. She had been given a copy of RUSH's 1st album, self titled RUSH. And felt that the song WORKING MAN would relate to the blue collar workers of Cleveland. She also liked the song, HERE AGAIN. So when the band played their gig, the radio station got behind the band and gave them plenty of airplay, then broadcast the concert and recorded their performance on August 24th, 1974. The radio station then rebroadcast the concert in December of 1974. And the rest is history.

Greetings from New Brunswick Canada from a 58 yr old RUSH Fan. Your song choices are interesting as they show when whomever is giving you the suggestions got into RUSH themselves. If you'd let an older fan take you on a journey, I'll take you back to their roots, when I was 13.

Peace out and RUSH on my new musical friend. I did subscribe to your channel :)
Right there xD

Run of the Mill = plain, standard, dull, boring, everyday.
