    Hello there I live the video. Brings back some amazing memories. See I bought a 1974 MT 250 new, in May 1974, while stationed at Ft Carson, CO. I had owned a 1973 Yamaha DT3 250, back at home in MA. That I rode for just about 6 months, before I enlisted in The U.S.Army, where I brought it back to Ft. Dix, N.J. After Basic Training and in Advanced Training, where I rode it back and forth every weekend in the summer of 73. It ran so good and was dmsooo much fun I wanted to ride it to Colorado! But my wonderful Dad talked me out of it, plus promised to loan me the money to buy new if I sold the Yamaha, to a cousin, I bought it for $925 new and sold it to him for $600. Then after I had settled in my new posting, I was going to buy another new Yamaha! But the nearest dealer at that time was 48 miles away! So I went to the nearest motorcycle dealer, a Honda, Kawasaki, Triumph/BSA dealer. I really wanted a Rickman Triumph 500 street legal Desert Sled Adventure bike, but Dad thought it was too expensive and to powerful at $1,780!! I came close to an SL 350, but thought the better or it being over 350 lbs would be a handful on mountain trails! So would an SL 250, at 290 lbs. so I took a look at the new MT 250 Elsinore Enduro that was street legal, that with the turn signals removed plus huge tail/stop light replaced with a bright but small tail/stop light and rubber pad to mount the plate on, along with a lightweight Bassani Expansion chamber, I could get the weight down to under 240 lbs, plus being a two stroke would have better power off roading. Well I owned that bike for just over three years, added over 15,000 miles easily with only replacing one piston/ring set and bore job, numerous chains and sprockets, tires and tubes, plus a couple cables, but that’s all! Plus I actually rode it home 1,300 miles home to Mass, after Honorably Discharged on April 27,1976, with a new chain and street/trail/trials tires, plus one extra tooth on the countershaft, that along with KONI Shocks and a Fork Kit made for a decent handling and comfortable ride. Oh an what a ride! Took my two weeks to get home. I’m only sorry I went home to soon and directly! But I noticed the high miles on the bike above in the video that reminded me of my own experience with an MT 250! Typical Honda machine! Wish I could find one today for a reasonable price.

    A '74 MT250 was my first motorcycle. I learned to ride on the way home after buying it. Second gear was blown so that was interesting. It made a great commuter bike.

    My dad rest his soul had the MR250 Elsinore back in the day with red tank white guards and headlight..Sort of a mid bike between the MT250 and the full on CR250M MX Racer.

    31K miles was a pretty good amount on the old girl. Most got thrown to the corner to rot way before that, PO must have been a real enthusiast.

    Watch the red line in the tach. I locked up and it skidded me up the highway. I kept it upright thankfully....an old timmer came along with some marvel mystery oil and we got it unseized. Smokes a little more now!

    No it's a 1973 because of its chrome heat shield on its exhaust

      Hello. Not so dumb idea. I name my bikes by the year they spend the most of their life. New models usualy arrive in the market late each year. But for the MT, the production line begin in May 1973. I found a road test in a magasine in September. In The American Honda bible "Motorcycle identification guide 1959 - 2000", they write : Honda MT 250 K0 - model year 1974, and 1975 for the K1 with the black shield.

      @perrybrown5744 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My 74 had a silver aluminum shield and silver side cover , 1975's had the black shield / covers.
