My first show was Binghamton NY 92! Most life changing experience I’ve ever had. These gentlemen shaped my entire adult life. I’m at 146 shows now… and counting! I still have my ticket stub. Union College Schenectady was where I got hooked. And Great Went- well- I’m glad there was no internet back then.
Coming back to say i make docs, people sell them but angels put them out there and you are speaking through your art. It happens to be Phish. You are speaking - keep on! Thank you for these.
great vid, my first show was 3/11/88. I watched all this shit happen. Im so proud of how they navigated everything they have been through, going to Albany for the benefit, cant wait
I remember at sugarbush I think it was , trekking through the woods to get in before phish took the stage and hearing Trey kick into chalk dust and running like holy hell to get inside . The “420 dank” show if I’m remembering correctly
1st time I saw them they opened for Carlos I had no idea who they were and I vividly remember Reba and remember thinking huh??? They didn't grow on me right away.
I've spent a lot of time covering Trey, Jerry and Duane since then. Those years converted heavy metal, guitar/bass young me, into a jamband guy. Agree. Good stuff!
THANK YOU for this. I've always preached 92 as the year that sent me head over heels for Trey and Phish. My first show was August 92 in SoCal, followed by a few that summer of Phish opening for Carlos. It was a magical time. Especially for a budding guitarist like myself.
7/11/92 HORDE Tour was my first Phish show ever. I was hooked from that moment on. 32 years, 100 shows later I'm still a diehard. I just got back from Mondegreen a little sore and battered but still enjoying this incredible journey with my musical heroes.
Thank you for this. My brother just recently passed away, and this time period was one of the most important musical periods of our life that we shared. We were at the audience gag/participation shows, big Cypress, and everything in between. Fishmans haircut at msg, Trey with the stand up tiny drum set onstage and trading instruments, plus plus plus. Wsp runs my world, but Honestly, haven’t seen phish since 2013 but seen them well over 150 times. Amazing memories.gotta get back
The grunge era really blew up in 1992 but I was already into the organically growing grassroots northeast improv rock scene. There was so much building energy going on at that time that got almost no mainstream coverage. Bands like The Ominous Seapods, Blues Traveler, Moe., Donna the Buffalo, Conehead Buddha, Deep Banana Blackout, Widespread Panic, Moon Boot Lover, Mexican Mud Band, Percy Hill, God Street Wine and more were all over the place at that time. It was like an underground movement with a loose coalition of semi like minded bands. Phish, Blues Traveler and Spin Doctors seemed to be leading it from my perspective but Phish was pretty far ahead even so. They just had the "it" factor and it was pretty obvious even if their music wasn't mainstream. Their ferocious improv couldn't be found by any other band imo though I've run into people over the years that have said Blues Traveler were actually better for a period of time in the 90's. Maybe but I doubt it. Phish in the 90's was putting out creatively explosive music in a muscular way. It was powerful and fresh. I don't think you could find better from any other band, artist or musical genre then.
Everything like pearl jam and green day and Oasis or whatever it is has always been ,and will always be just POP music,,,,simple consumer music for trends and magazines....PHISH IS ART AND THE FOLLOWING OF INTEREST THAT SURROUNDS THEM IS A CULT PHENOMENON....BASED ON TRUE MYSTERY AND LEGENDARY ADVENTURES IN LIVE MUSICAL EXPLORATION......CRAZY, THIS BAND IS A SUPERNATURAL VORTEX THAT CONTAINS AUTHENTIC MUSICAL GENIUS....
Great to see Donna the Buffalo get some love. Touring heavy since the late 80's. First Phish was '90 along with all of your mentions in early 90's. . But something about DTB....
Good job Brenden. First show was 4/1/92, ended up seeing over 20 shows by end of 93 and then my oldest son was born in 94, so 92-93 were my big Phish years brother. Always fun to revisit. Thanks!
I backpacked across Europe Spring/Summer of '92 (coincidentally). We saw every show except London. There were only a few Americans at the shows, maybe 7 or 8 of us total.-- Shout out to the others who chewed the same fat: Barry, Sandro, Jack, ChowderHead, Joe and Nicole -if you guys are reading this...WHAT UP!!! I remember Trey walking around after some of the Indoor venues handing out cassette tapes of "Picture of Nectar" to the Europeans. Great moment in Phish History. ---Awesome to have been there.
Great work Brendan! 1992 was also my first live Phish show on 04-16-92 in glorious Isla Vista CA. I understand why you didn't mention the show (overplay is the only way) and the monetization of this show was deplorable. yet it was a fantastic "it's Ice" had all the secret language and BAM most of a gamehenge ta boot da boot. I am so lucky to start my Phish this way... Shout out to Katherine my friend from MA who literally dragged me to the show. Over 120 later I was hooked! I was also at Horde and by 93 I was touring and blowing off college... Fantastic TH-cam documentary brother
Incredible! Thank you so much for this. I play in a jam band and we are trying to grow into playing hose jams (consistently) and this was a great help along the way!
This is perfect man! Been a Phan since '96 and cut my teeth on all the '90-'95 shows my cousin gave me on cassette back then. But this year I decided to really dig deep and listen to a whole tour start to finish. I decided on '92 for all the reasons you give in the doc. Only made it to May so far, lol, but still plugging away. This is a great addition to my '92 trip man, thank you so much. Well done!
Wonderful work! Thank-you! From a fan who still can't ever get enough. My journey started just after this era, and fall 94 was my first show in Chicago. Nothing has enhanced my life more than this band.
Thanks for putting this together, nice work! My first show was in '92. May 8th at the Riviera Theater in Buffalo, NY. I had gotten a taste of them through tapes from friends at college in Maine and was lucky enough to catch a show at home in WNY. Been enjoying the music ever since.
This is fantastic! Thank you so much! Please continue to make more. There is not enough explanation of all the phish adventures through the years. People don't realize the amount of time they took to make their shows so unique and amazing.
I grew up in N.E. and got to see alot of these shows. Amy's Farm was my first gig. Also saw alot of "firsts" during that era. Most notably the first 2001/Loving Cup at the Portland Expo in Maine. 🤘😁
Montreal Dec. 13 1992 - Phirst show. Incredible way to open the gate to my favorite world. Everyone seemed like a player in a play, perfectly playing an important part/role visually from the Gamehendge tales. 3/4 New England heads, lots of friends / girlfriends of the band. We took some juicy white lightning doses on the drive in from Ottawa. PEAKING! After all the hallucinations, manic music and cosmic connection.....they played "Harry Hood" towards the end; we were way up front but not bouncin', just soaking it all in with amazement. That was the moment I / we , earned out permanent passes alongside Bill & Jill on the highway through the Great Divide.

Great work on this!! My one gripe with 1992 is that you just can’t hear Mike in most of the recordings. Like in that weekapaug at 17:45. Trey is so damn loud though
The only person outside of the active military who we should insist retain the right to fire a machine gun is Trey, and '92 is defense for that argument; particularly three moments you cite in this video but people should listen to in full: Weekapaugh 3/20, Possum 5/17, and the YEM jam w/ Santana 7/25. They primed the pump for me to start seeing them in '93, and that (particularly the Hood in Atlanta, Roxy in '93) ensured the snowball would still be rolling until today.
Does anyone know if any other parts of the Oh Kee Pah Ceremonies were recorded and available? My understanding is that Union Federal was the 2nd half of part 2. I'd love to hear more jams like that. I didn't join the carnival until 1994...but I'm ridiculously grateful to have seen these guys in that era from 1994-1998. Absolutely pinnacle Phish.
The summer of 1992 shows with Santana and a picture of nectar forever changed the trajectory of my life 🚀
