@@loganhester4911 But nothing like if you take one out on the ocean or into a rough lake. Theyre made for calm waters getting drunk and going fishing on the local lake or a family cookout and thats it
Because people just buy boats and have no idea what they are or aren’t capable of .. it’s way too easy to get qualified to operate a boat.. should be more like getting a drivers license .
Technically this fits your criteria. Point Pleasant Canal links the Metedeconk River/Barnegat Bay with the Manasquan River, both protected waterways. It's only the canal that has rough water due to all the traffic, and there is no alternative route.
As a captain of a Boat, you have to know how to balance the load based on the conditions just to point out the many errors in all this. Move those folks to the stern and keep the bow up at all times.
This was absolutly NUTS! I saw them coming from 1/2 mile away and had a feeling it wasn't going to go well for this crew! They do have ladders placed along the canal incase someone goes overboard. But the current is so strong it would be hard for an adult to self rescue let alone a Child. I truly hope parents see this and get a little more serious about life jackets!
The “Lady Captain” handled her boat with a lot of finesse and skill. A much smoother and dryer ride than any of the others. That’s awesome to see! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I remember back around 83 going through the canal in my grandfathers boat with him and my dad. A wave went over the boat behind us and took out their window.
5:45 The hours and hours and hours of boat video Wavy Boats has archived, and we transit to NJ to see a Boston Whaler piloted by Carmela Soprano on her cell phone. NJ, you are amazing.
Thanks for going up to my old territory. I was “captain” of a 16 ft Gllassmaster tri-hull powered by a 50hp Merc between the ages of 14 to 19. Canal would sometimes get nasty but never had any problems as always kept everyone out of the bucket (precursor to today’s bowrider) so could keep my bow up. Never stuffed the bow. Got me set up for going through the inlet with only one famous Haulover u-turn well before the big ones rolled in. I’m alway amazed as to how many captains ignore the canal’s no wake even in front of the state police station that is close to the Bay Head entrance.
On the first one they could have been seated In the back since 1 they wouldn't get wet If waves come and 2 If they sit In the back chances are lower they'll smash into a wave that has a mini flooding effect
yea i’ve been in a rental pontoon with a family reunion when the local waters been rough. needed more hp but inexperienced they keep it low. conditions like these you have to slow down. he probably tried powering through the wave. most times if the wave is bigger than your bow stop or just barely have forward momentum let the wave 🌊 do it’s thing you may get wet who cares it’s water you won’t melt. these conditions take it easy no hammer jockeys. if your not a speed demon pontoons are good family laid back boats. being that whole family unit was in the front dropped the bow further stay in the middle or in the back to balance the boat out. follow the coast guard safety tag persons 4 gear what ever the number.
Man see you in the New Jersey video next to the Florida videos makes you really realize how terrible our water looks 😂 I miss that Florida water! Makes me want to plan a vacation as soon as the airlines problems are fixed!
Understanding balance of center of gravity and the dynamics of trimming the motor up to get the bow up are a good place to start. Perhaps a USCG boat handling course to cure a little cranial analitus.
I have a B-Offshore rated boat (over-rated for my regular use) and have found in America a large demographic own/rent boats and treat them like toys until something goes wrong. They pile them full of friends and children and 'wing it'. You see the youngest with no life vests in the bow of the boat looking frightened while the dad is having the time of his life. A few days ago an extended family took a small Yamaha boat into the Hudson River with 12 persons and it capsized (two died). No one had life vests on and the captain was extremely inexperienced. Bodies of water can be very unforgiving to the unprepared.
For most of them, the waves seem to be great fun. They are piling into the bow because they *want* a wild ride, and maybe to get splashed. And they seem more civilized than many of those at Haulover.
In the old days the route 88 bridge had its support in the canal and the opening to go thru the bridge was about 20 feet wide making the bridge a bottle neck. Believe it or not the water was at leat 10 times worse than shown in the video. To make it worse for big boats the bridge would need to open. Think about how hard it was to wait for the bridge to open with the water flowing 10 times stronger than shown in this video.
Hi B stanz, I remember those Good Old days with the 88 bridge pilings in the water. Been through it too many times to count on my 20 foot cuddy cabin power boat and even more fun occasionally on my 27 foot sailboat. Until you try the canal on a sailboat, you have no idea of how interesting it can get. So while it was a big improvement when the bridge pilings were removed, the boaters seen to have actually gotten worse today now that a state boaters license is required. Or possible when boating was enforced by the 'Marine Police' they were doing a better job of enforcing the No Wake rules than the State Troopers who are on the water now that have replaced the Marine Police.
@wavy boats, Just curious..Are you working with the local channels up here now? Could've sworn I saw this exact same video on another channel a week ago.
Boynton is much worse than this Canal. 130 ft wide with about the same amount of traffic and no speed limit. Standing waves at the mouth with a turn and standing waves near the bridge. We've got some boynton stuff coming out soon. 👍
@@WavyBoats i grew up in Boynton and was always terrified as a kid going through that inlet on my dads boat lol. I used to spear fish around that inlet too. Good memories. Love your videos btw. Thanks!
This Canal is so rough - navigate every weekend in the summer. It's supposed to be no wake / low wake but when the time is coming in our out, you have to have some power. And if you stall - forget about it.
Yeah...move people to the back. Dont know why the freaked out though...the floatation wasn't jeapordized. One advantage of pontoons...very hard to sink them.
I've come across but I'm not familiar with this type of vessel. I imagine the hull shape is unsuitable for making passage through rough water. Like pushing a box through waves and current.
I think while boats are in motion coming into or out of an inlet or port with any sort of swells life jackets and kill cords should be mandatory. Ive saw too many boats run away and people go overboard without life jackets. Not safe.
In choppy water NEVER put people in the bow, you want to get on top of the ways not plow through then UNLESS your in a troller type boat and even then the less weight in the bow the better.
2:30 Those small whalers seem to be way more seaworthy than something that size has any right to! I don't know what, but they are doing _something_ right.
That canal is F-CKED UP, and so is that inlet at tide change. Jerkoff's go speeding through that man made canal with million dollar yachts and the water just bounces off the walls making it REALLY rough and dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. I'll never forget a Pontoon Boat that flipped on November 27, 2015. Two people dead, 4 transported to the hospital, and the pontoon boat's kitchen cabinets and liquor bottles were floating everywhere.
What did dad do wrong here? Could he avoid that stuffing? 😳
Yes. He could have stayed at home.
That pontoon should stay on small inland lakes.
Number one; no life jackets on those kids, number two; taking that pontoon out there in the first place, number three; driving like an idiot.
It’s always good to load the passengers up front! Idiotic

they do alright in the gulf for getting out to the local sandbars they are also way more forgiving to getting swamped than a regular boat
