    I'm looking purchasing a Tado system. Still surprised by the lack of companies providing smart thermostats that work with smart TRVs. Being able to independently control heating of rooms seems like a great option.

      Ah alright, no worries. Does nest have rad control lite Tado? I really like that each room is controlled separately and can activate the gas boiler to pump hot water to each room as required. Do you know if nest can do this?

  • @wobby1516
    @wobby1516 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Excellent review, certainly far better than the Tado web site or chat line. Two questions I have about the smart thermostat. If it’s set to let’s say 18* and the smart radiator thermostats set to various temp above 18* does the heating turn of when the smart thermostat reaches 18* or do the smart radiator thermostats override to keep the boiler on until each smart radiator has reached temp. Tado tell me that the smart thermostat under those circumstances is a relay for the smart radiator thermostats and a method of manually turning the hot water on an off. I too have a Nest system but would like a more controllable system.
    I notice Tado also has another thermostat not the smart one, is it for pairing with a smart radiator thermostat to get a more accurate room temp reading rather than the ambiance temp reading at the smart radiator valve. Like I said Tado’s web site is not very informative and if I spen upwards of 4-500 I’d like to get it right. Thanks Colin.

    • @GeekStreet
      @GeekStreet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Colin, its quite interesting how it works the main thermostat and rad thermostat try to maintain a temperature that you set, but if for example the temperature drops in a room that will turn the boiler on and heat that room and then turn off once the temp is reached and obviously if the other rooms are at their ideal temp then they will not heat up.

    Considering this for the smart TRV support, which Nest doesn't have yet (I think).
    Maybe a silly question, what does happen let's say when the thermostat and the TRVs are set to 18 deg except for one TRV, which is let's say set to 22 deg. Will all of the radiators come on when the system is activated to warm up the one room to 22?

    • @rodgerq
      @rodgerq 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've just installed the tado setup and it doesn't work that way for me. My main thermostat needs to be calling for heat before the TRVs will do anything, as opposed to a cold trv being able to directly control the boiler.
      On a Facebook support forum some people say that it's a setting that tado needs to do on their end which seems absolutely insane but is a common opinion.
      I have also noticed that my thermostat won't work wirelessly, ie if I remove it from the wall mount, it doesn't work, like it isn't connecting to the extension kit.
      I don't know if the extension kit should be installed first before the thermostat.
      I have contacted support but they can be really slow, with tools ole covid surely exacerbating that particular situation.

      Its a tough one in in terms of cost it comes really high but that more more to do with the smart thermostats. I didnt like the idea of having to change all those batteries every few years, but having said that it does provide better control over your radiators as it and more acturate temperature settings over a traditional thermostat. I'd definitely recommend giving it a go and if it doesn't work out just return it.

    Does it do intelligent heating? ie: If you set a temp of 20 degrees for 8am, our Netatmo system learns the heating "performance" of your house, and looks at the current temp of the house etc, and starts the heating appropriately early to get to 20 degrees at 8am. eg: eg: If it's particularly cold it might turn the heating on at 7am to get to 20 degrees for 8am.
    It also takes into account thermal inertia, so if you set your temp to 20 degrees, and it's currently 18. It'll probably turn your heating off at something like 19.5, knowing that the heating will continue to warm the house up to 20... And likewise, it will then logically pulse the heating to keep it from dropping (much) below 20 degrees. In this way you don't get the typical fall and rise of the temp around a desired point. I can look at my temperature and it'll say sit around 19.9 and 20.1 for hours on end when set to keep the house at 20 degrees.
    The phone interface of the Netatmo also great, with lifetime graphs of temperatures and heating.
    The big downside of the Netatmo is its heating only. Not hot water :(

    • @GeekStreet
      @GeekStreet  4 ปีที่แล้ว
