The problem is that the only way the first 2 episodes make any sense is if the Jedi ruthlessly slaughtered all the mothers and then blamed it on the small fire a child started.
this show they said was inspired by japanese movie that showed different points of view. So we'll find out what really happened at the end. This was just what happened from Osha's point of view so far.
The padawan jedi Torban had cuts on his face at the end of the episode if you look, the women were not killed by fire so I feel like there is more to see

The story isn’t even finished yet so why are you complaining?! Is it because your theories are not coming true? Everyone here is missing the point. They are trying to make the show understandable for everybody to enjoy and the fans will probably hear the same redundant things over and over but we need to remember that it isn’t targeted just towards us. Besides the show isn’t even done yet so I don’t know why everybody is judging and everything when it’s a mystery we’re not supposed to know a goddamn thing until the next episode why is everybody not understanding the concept of that it is very retarded?! Everything will eventually be passed on to the next generation in hopes that people have a little more peace. Screw the lore and comics! These stories are fresh and I don’t see a damn thing controversial at all! This was meant to appeal and be understandable to ALL audiences. Older audiences should understand and respect the younger people who don’t or have ever seen the original trilogy. We all are hearing lines on the show that sound predictable and lame, but this, they’re doing for new fans and younger audiences. This is not for just us. Does everybody think we are going to see young palpatine training and having a math lesson with his Wose Master? The Muun? New people won’t know what the hell this talk is about unless we explain through a boring lesson that they don’t care about.

Makes no sense that the Jedi would even want to train 9 year olds raised by witches based on all we already know. Even Anakin was originally rejected. These are the exact kind of kids the Jedi would fear training. An older child with strong attachments to her family(witches), and a twisted twin sister who apparently just murdered them all doesn’t seem like a prime Jedi candidate. Fear, anger, hate. Disney claiming to be canon is like Elon Musk buying the rights to the Beatles and making a new "Beatles" album. No one with an IQ over room temperature would consider it to be legitimate, yet people allow corporations and unethical media to push charged language to try and bully you into accepting bad fan fiction. Star Wars is the 6 movies, clone wars and a bunch of fan fiction (that was both good and bad) and Disney fan fiction is made by people who hate the original idea of Star Wars and want to subvert it. It should just be called hatemail at this point.
Anyone calling Disney movies canon is either on the payroll either directly or indirectly through monetization. I adore the Thrawn trilogy but I still would never call it canon and it wrapped the logical conclusions of the characters we loved in a smart way while not ruining the stakes of the original films like the sequel trilogy did.
Tolkien didn't write Rings of Power and Lucas didn't write this garbage. He referred to this company as "slavers" and I see nothing wrong with that assessment. Just call it what it is. Yeah, I know more about Star Wars, both Disney canon and definitely the EU, than these kids could ever learn if they tried, and yet I'm a bigot and a fake fan for thinking this show is shit. Nevermind that I actually really liked the Ahsoka show, with its female main character portrayed by a Latino woman, I apparently hate this show because the main actor is a black person who isn't a man. Sam Witwer is still on the payroll, if they'd just bring him in on all of these shows none of them would fail.

The main thing that is ripping the final remnants of a fanbase apart is that the Jedi are shown as the bad guys, not a force for good. In many ways that is a MUCH more insolent attack on fans than Rian Johnson ever managed in his destruction of Luke. And why in the fuck would they seek out random kids in an already super far away planet who are older than the age requirement for them to start training. That was the whole thing about Anakin at the beginning where they didnt want to train him cause he was older. Another woke disaster, classic.
Well it was four of them the order consists of thousands, Sol seemed to be new to the Master rank and may have not been a high ranking Master at this point if he was on the council we also got to take in the fact, that the age requirement could of been something adopted after this.
Also most force users were mainly captured before this age disparity they also make it known that they are outside the Republic so the twins were spotted later than usual for this reason. Anakin Skywalker was also spotted for the exact same reason when Qui Gon Jinn and Obi Wan met with him on Tatoinne which is not technically apart of the Republic neither.
Jedi have always kinda came off over self righteous in my opinion. Oppressive I wouldn't say it like that, the witches don't see Jedi beliefs ideologies to be the way, nor do the sith etc.

the problem with the drawn out unfocused episodes is Disney trying to hard to market star wars to the most people they can. The huge success of The Mandolorian and the "baby yoda" craze is a high Disney is chasing at the expense of quality stories for the more devoted fans.
They're setting up that the good twin is actually the evil one and vice versa, aren't they?
Also I was a bit confused about that building. It looked like the witches lived in a dam on top of a mountain. It looked really stupid.

Mae is able to set a fire using an oillamp in a hallway entirely made of stone and steel. Sure, makes total sense if you don't know basic chemistry or physics. That scene was just laughable.
So, either we have to believe that a 8-9 year old would be able to torch an entire base carved into a frigging mountain and killing everyone inside off screen OR they will give us some elaborate explanation in a later episode as to what happened. If they do the latter that explanation had better be phenomenally good or we can conclude that episode 3 was just a filler episode in which no new information was relayed to us to actually help further the story or understand character motivations other than 'Osha wanted to be a Jedi and Mae wanted to be a witch'.
Not to mention it was a coven of force using witches...that somehow couldn't use their powers to escape a fire

@@Mr00Chief00 I wouldn't go that far. I think the show has a lot of flaws, and the writing is part of that. But for example, they didn't feel the need to explain cortosis, but casual fans understood by the way it played out. The Jedi looked shocked, stared at their lightsabers and they looked like they were shorting out.
Or how we can tell Kelnacca was obsessed/traumatized etc with the cult by drawing their symbols everywhere.
Or how Mae was trying to steal the lightsabers from Indara and Sol.

All of it is awful, there are no redeeming qualities.
This is just my personal opinion, but the anime Seto no Hanayome is such an example to me. The anime is mostly loved for its comedy, but for me the comedy was a total miss, and I didn't really like the characters or much else, either. The only thing I liked about it was the great soundtrack and a couple of episodes where they really focused on the music... and the last episode, which is, in my books, f*cking epic and well worth suffering through the show just to get to that point. The final episode is very well dramatised and raises the protagonist from bland mediocrity to badass.
It wasn't wise at all for them to make episode three a "flashback" to the origins of the twins, because NOTHING new was revealed that we didn't already infer from the first two episodes. It just added unnecessary filler dialogue and gave the director a chance to insert more controversial plot points that, as you said, did not land well at all. It's really a disgrace to the franchise and the audience to churn out new shows like this without any attempt at remaining faithful to the original material.

I'm assuming you're young, new to Star Wars, or have amnesia. Ppl have been down on the character of Anakin since 1999 when the Phantom Menace came out. That's why Jake Lloyd and Hayden Christianson were so mercilessly attacked. I actually think that the Disney Era has been working to show love to his character. His depictions in Obi-Wan and Ahoka have been great.

They can fix any lore mistakes they make but my gawd the acting, plot holes, character development, story telling is terrible. I will say this I always found the narrative arc that Rian Johnson was going for interesting. To sum it up for those who don’t know the Jedi got to stuck up and lost their way. Problem for Rian is that he can’t write good stories and doesn’t understand the art of subtlety in story telling. I feel like the same thing may be happening here. It’s an interesting story beat but the show directors have zero idea how to tell a subtle story.
The most basic premise of Star Wars is that Anakin is the chosen one, born of the force, destined to bring balance to the force… except nope, here we have these two, also born of the force. So what does that make Anakin?
I didn’t like how they seemingly revealed the whole backstory. If they had made it a pov version / account of the event, then that would be deferent. (This seems to be Osha’s). Which goes into another issue that I have with Star Wars live action shows in general aside from S1 & S2 of the Mandalorian and Andor, (and I’m not a big Mando fan). That being that they don’t make good use of their screen time, which is especially important when these episodes average at about 30 minutes of story and week, for whatever reason.
At most, we will get one or two fights with Mae's master and maybe a cameo of Tenebrous or Plagueis. Remember that in this time of the timeline, the Jedi only became aware of the rule of 2. They never knew of the return of the Sith until Episode 1.

Kinda like how andor was. I really struggled to enjoy andor when watching weekly but I finally ended up liking it when watching all the episodes at once. Have a feeling acolyte is turning out the same.

@@TheMormonSorceress Sure, my problem wasn't the fighting itself it was how it was executed in the scene which felt awkward and clunky to me. For me, when I was watching, I was listening to the mother's whole monologue explaining their coven's interpretation of the force and then you just hear the two girls in the background arguing with eachother and pushing eachother for like no reason I guess other than the fact Osha doesn't want to do the ascension(which they continue to fight about later in the episode anyway so them inserting this fight into the scene feels a bit redundant, like we as an audience can already understand how Osha feels compared to Mae, we don't need it hammered over our head). Part of the problem feels like the directing and part of it felt like the child actors just not being very good in this episode, but watching that going on in the background while the focus of the camera stays on the mother just felt to me like I was seeing something I'm not supposed to. It actually took away from the scene.
I saw another streamer's reaction of the episode, and he said something that feels so, so true: "The people who bullied us when we were younger for liking Star Wars are now the one's dictating the story."
The people in charge of Star Wars right now really do hate the original fans who made it so iconic in the first place.
It's about time the real SW fans were honest and stopped "looking on the positive side". That permissive attitude is what gave the fools in charge their wings.

It's sad to me because I know there's a good show in there. There's a lot to like. But the plot just doesn't work for me. A show that did an overarching story/mystery better would be Gen V (The Boys spin-off). That was also only 8 episodes, but it focused on the point while still finding time to properly flesh out the characters/world.

Great review. The part where the guys are basically writing the backstory themselves in hope of things making more sense is funny. Very little hope that the actual writers of the show have that kind of knowledge about Star Wars.

Politics aside it’s just bad.
The thing is, they _could_ do politics if they weren't so... Hamfisted about it. It needs to be a part of a good story and fit in naturally, it needs to impart some kind of timeless lesson and not hit the viewer over the head with it, but rather subtly convince them to see the point.
GL did this well. In fact he did it so well that honestly the prequels seem more prescient _today_ than they did when he released them ~20 yrs ago.
Corporate greed. Machinations of elites. Corruption of longstanding institutions. Exploitation of a systems weak points to invalidate it's entire structure. Justifying horrific acts in pursuit of some greater good. Being too attached to the point of obsession. I could go on, but for something often casually disregarded (by many people firmly in line with Lucasfilms new, overt politics) as 'magic wizards in space', it's actually pretty deep. Much deeper than this slop.

I don't think the death of the witches was the sister's fault. It was a misunderstanding from the Jedi, one of the committed suicide over this.
I'm sure they'll leave it ambiguous but that horned mother probably attacked the Jedi and they sliced them down. she didn't use a weapon but still an attack. the witches weren't burned. with a lightsaber they may have been killed.

What Jedi Council would allow training a child with a family history so in-depth. Then there is the fact the child lost their entire family in a fire set by her sister. No matter how bad they want to be a Jedi. It just doesn't make sense.
Headland shows over and over, she doesn't care or know about the SW Universe Lore, or even how the Force itself works.
