'Padhaaro Mhaare Des' by Farid Ayaz & Abu Mohammed

  • It was the last day of the Festival of Kabir in Bangalore, the final concert of qawwali by Fariduddin Ayaz & Abu Mohammed from Karachi, Pakistan and the 1350-seat auditorium was packed to the brim. Farid Sahab told the audience that his family was originally from Delhi and flung across the border by the Partition in 1947. "Here, I am called a Pakistan-wallah, and there they call me a Dilli-wallah!” he said laughingly. The humour was dry, but laced with the distinct flavour of loss.
When he burst into the famous Rajasthani folk song ‘Padhaaro Mhaare Des (Come To My Country)’, the moment crackled with a poignant beauty. "Let's go to that undivided land," he said, "To that country beyond India and Pakistan, that undivided space where we all belong!" Many in the audience wept, including Mukhtiyar Ali, a beautiful folk singer from Rajasthan sitting in the front row.

    ***
This festival happened in Feb 2009, within four months of an attack which killed 200 people at the Taj Hotel in Mumbai leading to the immediate capture of a Pakistani terrorist in November 2008. We organised this festival amidst a growing jingoism and anti-Pakistan mood in India. Despite the pessimism and lack of help from many quarters, we managed to secure visas for our Pakistani singer friends to join other Kabir singers from Malwa, Rajasthan, Kutch and Karnataka at this festival.

They sing in Urdu, Sindhi, Punjabi, Pushto, Hindi, Poorbi, Persian, Arabic and Turkish, intermingling with aplomb the voice of Kabir with a range of Sufi poets including Jalaluddin Rumi, Sachal Sarmast, Zaheen Shah and others.

So sad 😞. Perhaps some western nations made best use of divide and sell

got goose bumps when he said " ajj ham apnay desh main baith kar, wo undivided desh main baith kar, kehtay hain k dhola, aray padharo maray des " i really wish that the indian subcontinent was never divided. we all are same, one music, one culture, similar faces, similar humuor. like khusroo said "Mun tu shudam tu mun shudi, mun tun shudam tu jaan shudi,Taakas na guyad baad azeen, mun deegaram tu deegari." indians and Pakistanis they may fight, but when they sit together they feel that they share the same essence of life and brotherhood. Long live the bond. Lets get over all the differences and show the world the love we have for each other. Today the world needs it most.

I was "planted" in Pakistan, before there was a Pakistan and born in India. 1947 & 1948.
    I love it!
Don't under the Urdu or pure Hindi; but I can feel it.
    It is in my blood.
Saw and heard these guys in Singapore two weeks ago for the first time.
Still feel the chills when I hear them.
    Yes, I love it!

Very sad and sorry, do you believe in humanity, do you believe in peace, do you believe in love, in respect and living togather peacefully in this world among nations. After Bangladesh where is your " two nation" theory. You are a muslim and you have a right to be a muslim and worship God, similarly others have the same right to be whatever they want and worship whatever they want to worship, if you want respect you have to respect others, you can convince them peacefully and not by hating or saying kafir to others, so please create love and peace not hatred, Hindus and Muslims libed together for centuries, Muslims ruled Hindus for centuries and once they( Muslims) lost power they coined two nation theory which is really not correct as Muslims still living in India, to be honest Muslims did damage to themselves by dividing their power into three parts. Indian politicians (muslims and hindus both) did big mistake by dividing the country and created anemies for ever who will continue fighting just for nothing........sorry if you do not like my opinion, it's just an opinion, don't make it an issue....
