He made me a life long dolphin fan. That was 50 years ago. Iam from Hawaii and i miss those early 1970's teams as they were always contending and was so exciting that 1972 team if you like old school football. I was a kid and i still remember watching on the black n white tv with announcer Howard Cosell and sometimes have to move the roof antenna to get better reception. The memories!
Don't let those wrinkles fool you this man has the heart of a lion, the only fullback in the history of the nfl to get called for unnecessary roughness while carrying the ball !!
This is what life is about...the good old time. Yes it comes with a price but when you accomplish what you set your self up to do in life to me, that’s priceless
What a team! I was a senior at Coral Gables High that year. My Dad took us to many games at the Orange Bowl and it was great to see the winning tradition. The Dolphins also went to Super Bowl 17 under Shula with David Woodley as QB. There was one ref call that was so bad, many think the Dolphins got robbed in Super Bowl 17. The Dolphins are a great organization and l look forward to their return to being one of the elite teams in the NFL. Oh, and Mercury, the question at the press conference has been answered about "these kids in Miami".
I know Csonka is having a ruff time losing his best icon and family friend. I remember those 72' dolphins and seeing Csonka play the 6 years in the NFL.
Don shula taught me about team play not individual would win the game he will be missed by chellito Garcia and all the players he talked to about winning championship games
Went to the Superbowl with the best offense and defense, went with the best defense, went with the best offense. Never taped other teams practices, never deflated the balls, never stole signals or jammed transmissions. I wish Csonka would have told the story about them finding the Raiders game plan in the locker room because they were having issues at the stadium and they were sharing a locker room. Players took it to coaches, coaches took it to Shula...Shula told them to throw it away, he didn't want to win like that.
Coach Noll in Pittsburgh did the exact same thing when a member of the Houston Oilers left their playbook behind after their first meeting one season. Noll could have kept it for the second AFC Central division game, but he threw it in the trash.
@marksmith4346 Well, I believe most people are decent. In these cases, Noll and Phillips respected each other, and Shula was being a professional even though Oakland never deserved to be treated like a real team.
chellito Garcia Don shula taught me about team play not individual would win the game my state titles attest to the fact that you want men and people will respect you if you do things correctly
Truly the best! Coach Shula, you will be missed. 😔

The Greatest coach ever!! The Legend!!
It seemed like after he lost Csonka, Kick, and Warfield in 75, he forgot about the running game and never won another Super Bowl
Wonderful story of Coach Shula, very heartwarming

Shula and Csonka are both Hungarian...
before Pat Riley, Miami had Don Shula
Shula was the best, classiest, most competent football coach in the history of the game.
el entrenador con más triunfos
el entrenador con temporada perfecta
el entrenador que dirigió a dos de los mejores QB de la historia: Unitas y Marino

@@67marlins I think we have lost those values today.
