The british brought custard tarts to Hong Kong, the Portuguese have brought egg tarts (pastéis de nata in portuguese) to Macau which was a Portuguese colony. They are a very traditional pastry here, created in Lisbon in the 1800's 😊
Maybe wear AK protective "Hole" boots?...just Kidding/// Embarrassing incident. Glad it wasn't edited out. I think it was funny and real life that makes you two so engaging.
I think he should have just changed to bubble tea (boba) instead, my favorite is taro :) really enjoy the collabs, you two should do more and be awesome if you had one with Mike Chen ( Strictly Dumpling) too, \^.^/
Here Be Barr: When you're in Sunset Park, go over by Industry City. You'll find an Authentic Salvadorian Restaurant (very inexpensive) and A rated for cleanliness, called Gran Villa at 40th and 3rd ave. They make everything fresh , the Pupusas are unbelievable. They have a 10 dollar deal with special meats, fish , pork, rice beans, plantains and veggies with a can of soda. Their portion feeds 2 people. You should check it out.
Kenneth, action, has so many wonderful videos of walks throughout all the borough's of NY. He's also walked and filmed cities in NJ and was in Florida a few months ago. He has genuine reactions and is very pleasant. Doesn't over talk anything. Highly recommend his videos . Pleasant, well filmed and beautiful.
I am surprised you've lived so long in NYC and never been to Sunset Park. There is a commuter van that used to go to sunset park from Manhattan Chinatown. That's how I used to go. Makes it quicker
I was waiting for my favorite spot in all of Brooklyn Chinatown. Thought you and your friend would miss out on it lol. Great research 👌🏾...but those are top 2 PSA fried dumplings in all of NYC..so good and value is excellent. I live in Brooklyn and stop by once a week
Amazing series Jon. I've only been to the 8th avenue Chinatown on a few rare occassions and almost of the places youve listed in both series I have never even been to. When it's safer to do so, I am so getting myself some of those good eats, especially the egg tart place and dumpling house
I know those places very well!! My sister lived in Sunset Park! Super diverse place to live! Plus now lots of new stores are there too! Costco, Bed Bath and Beyond, SAKS off Fifth. All on Third Ave!
Those egg tarts are Portuguese pastry its called PASTEL DE NATA! And we eat it with cinnamon! But the pastry is made of mil fois even better! It should be made with pork lard. The recipe isn’t british the portuguese were in China wat before 😘😘😘😘
Everything looked so good (and definitely reasonably priced)! The items in the bakery looked amazing as well, definitely jotting down some of these locations for the next time I visit Brooklyn :)
Thanks for sharing this. I liked the crispy dumplings. If I do make it to New York City, in the future, I definitely would like to try these foods. Cheers!
Hi you guys remind me of my Brooklyn days back in the eighties I will pay 50 cent for a slice of good pizza and 50 cent of pint of fried rice does was the days great video love you guys
Concise, congenial and appetizing collaboration!!! Thinking out loud, would you guys consider a tag-along very small group of respective followers/friends for a recorded/stream taste-testing?
Nice tour! Few notes. Usually get bean curd home style which available in most regular Chinese restaurants- least in Kew Gardens and Forest Hills. Fried wantons usually sell 12 for 2.95 😀 Bahn Mi sauce probably just mayo least only sauce supposed to go there. And I wonder how this Bahn Mi compares to Joju in Elmhurst.
A good bahn mi can make or break a Viet restaurant. Sometimes places get cheap and put it on a hoagie roll. Loves steak, pork belly, or even a tofu one.
Hey man great videos and welcome to Brooklyn. I been working in sunset park since 1995. My favorite joint is Yun Nun Flavour Garden at 5121 8th Avenue. It used to be a hole in the wall back in the day and I used to go there at least twice a week for the “cold noodles” and “hot and sour soup dumplings”. Try it out and if you travel to 4th and 5th Avenue you can have some awesome Hispanic food. Stay safe
I’ve had those egg tarts in Portugal (someone else in the comments mentioned what they call them there but idk how to spell it) and I like them a lot, i wish I could have a chance one day to try them at the place you guys had them from. Would be interesting to compare them to the ones you can actually get in Portugal.
It’s funny, I’ve been trying to go to that dumpling 🥟 spot and haven’t yet and i live in Brooklyn. I was told by friends and Also from Mike Chen’s video lol.
I hope i can travel in may 2021. And i will visit New York for 6 days. Last year i wanted to come fo 4 days but that was a bussy scheduel. Now i hope to complete my program and i will attent a vew of your places. If it will take place i defenatly will have a experiance of my life. In the same trip i will go to Indianapolis and Chicago. I am a Indy and Bleus Brothers guy. :)
Tofu is extremely bland so no one eats it by itself. It’s like a sponge that soaks up the flavors that it’s in like soups, stews or sauces! Try it in a soup like they did or a dish called Mapo Tofu which can be done in different versions like spicy, non-spicy, with grounded meat or meatless for a vegan version. It’s very versatile & a good source of cheap protein when prepared correctly!
hhmm that bean curd dish looked yum,I'm vegan so love that kind of stuff and its so hard to get good vegan food on the go with variety.oohh and the chinese dumplings look the best,Also try the polish pirogi? i think is similar, who doesn't like a dumpling!!

love my dumplings, can't get enough!

Estes gajos para estudar historia esta quieto tem que se explicar tudo!
I could go back for those egg tarts anytime! Though I'll be staying away from ordering any drinks anytime soon 😂
Dont let leeches get in the way actionkid. Stay humble and avoid becoming ActionMan
Really great ! Enjoyed dynamic. Snaps for including the foodie camera man. Keep blazing AK. 👍🏼❤️
They didn’t look like authentic “pasteis de nata”, go to Ironbound section of Newark for the real deal.
The guys on the seat next to you found it entertaining 😆
Maybe wear AK protective "Hole" boots?...just Kidding/// Embarrassing incident. Glad it wasn't edited out. I think it was funny and real life that makes you two so engaging.
10:04 Good for you for supporting your local food spots and not expecting handouts.
Should ActionKid go back to buy a new papaya shake? Yes or no, debate below.
Of course he should. lol. That sounds incredible!
Bummer though that he dropped it!
Yes!
Probably needs new shoes first 😆

NYC is such a vibe! 🙌🏻❤️
You should be at 1 million subscribers easy. As someone who was born and raised in New York City, I really love your videos and personality.
My fiance and I are planning on coming there in the spring because of your videos! Super excited and we will go to the places you've shown us!
Ba Xuyen is a gem! This is the best traditional banh mi we’ve had in NYC
That may be #1 on my return list.
@@HereBeBarr Try the jackfruit shake or avocado shake next time too 👍
I love these "Ethnic Enclave Foods" videos! keep making them!
Thanks
Action Kid’s voice is ASMR
hahaha
Yes it is.
Kai Feng is mad good. I was just there a couple weeks ago. Walked out with a huge bag of various dumplings for like $10.00.
Those dumplings look great - very nice pan fried bottoms
Yes sir.

Love the China food craw with my guy @actionkid he is the reason I started following you as well. Good job Barr
Xin Fa is awesome - their egg tarts are really nice and eggy. Probably the biggest one we’ve ever had
Be tough to find bigger in NYC.
Thanks again for the second informative video on Chinatown. You guys are great together! Hope AK got his camera fixed. Thought he had a bad sd card.
i hope so too.
Hello John, really enjoyed your video and I really like the egg tarts looks really delicious!
Cheers as always!
Great idea to take your banh mi to Sunset Park - love the view from there!
I am surprised you've lived so long in NYC and never been to Sunset Park. There is a commuter van that used to go to sunset park from Manhattan Chinatown. That's how I used to go. Makes it quicker
Part 2 did not disappoint! Great job guys.

Completely worth the trip. I'll be back.
I loved this segment. Thank you. I am so hungry now. It is a long ride on the subway to get to 8th ave. In Brooklyn but worth it.
A lot of hidden gems in Sunset Park, you guys should check out the food around 5th Ave good Spanish cuisine.

Yay! I got my coffee and ready to watch! 🥰
I always feel insanely hangry after watching these type of reviews. Everything seems to look so damn tasty. 🙃😋🙂
Egg tarts are life! 🤣❤️
hahah yes
Maybe do a 86 Street Bensonhurst food crawl someday? There is a diverse selection of food.
Egg tart, I would know as custard tart. A favourite of mine. I enjoyed the tour, pity about the shake, but it was funny to watch... Thanks guys.👍
It's very odd watching you guys do a video outside my apartment 😂
Lucky Vegetarian is one of my favorite places! Their braised "fish" is a bit on the pricey side but is totally delicious.
Buddhist cooking is fantastic. Vegan/vegetarian, healthy, flavourful and made with dedication.
the American dude looks like berlin from money hesit
It’s action kid ☀️
It may be the liver pate spread in the banh mi that you taste
Wow, had no idea.
The sauce is called Bo it is like Mayo just with egg yolks, oil, and I think condense milk
No condensed milk, just as you said egg yolks, oil, salt and sugar
@@swong705 I think my friend uses condense milk instead of sugar and it came out delicious
Could've at least asked for an extra bowl lol. Nice find.
And beautiful view of sunset over the sunset park.
Do the many different Jewish communities of NYC!
Yeah, I'd love to see the food in those communities, too!
yes please
I know those places very well!! My sister lived in Sunset Park! Super diverse place to live! Plus now lots of new stores are there too! Costco, Bed Bath and Beyond, SAKS off Fifth. All on Third Ave!
You need to go to the Ironbound section of Newark (Ferry St) for authentic Portuguese egg tarts and Portuguese food.
I go through the Chinatown neighborhood in Brooklyn whenever I travel to New York while I’m on the bus.
Those egg tarts are Portuguese pastry its called PASTEL DE NATA! And we eat it with cinnamon! But the pastry is made of mil fois even better!
It should be made with pork lard. The recipe isn’t british the portuguese were in China wat before 😘😘😘😘
Love these videos, but it doesn't help to watch while hungry haha. Great set of Chinatown videos.
So ready to check it out.
Thanks Jon and Kenneth great food trip again ✌️🙏😍🚶🏻🍲appreciate you both
AK is a straight up legend 😂
Kenneth had more action then his own channel. His channel should change to adventure kid.😅
I like that barstool pizza reference! Everybody knows the rules!
Awesome episode! See my friend there, nice collab!
Ba X'uyen does make the best banh mi in NYC. Omitted was the excellent Yunnan Flavor Garden
My relatives live just a few blocks away from the Chinatown in Flushing, Queens.
Absolutely
Looks so good! I would love to visit there!
I'll try these for sure 👍

He said “one bite everyone knows the rules” lol
I once saw a TH-cam try to “one bite” a chopped cheese. Couldn’t just take one bite. I wish more New York creators would go for the chopped cheese.
Hope Action Kid got a chance to taste the papaya shake again 😊😊
Excellent
Pasteis de nata😂😳😂 3:35
Its cilantro and pork roll in the banh mi

Ken lol. Parsley in banhmi lol. It’s cilantro. They don’t ever use Turkey.
The Hasidic Jewish section. Of borough park is three blocks west
