    What a ridiculous title for a ridiculous video. Of course it's not historically accurate, it's a fictional video game universe with magic and Darth Vader. We don't need this unnecessary baggage shoved down out throats! That's just my personal opinion, though. I am very smart.

    "Best worst selling game of the year" is the most depressing thing I've heard in awhile. I've bought Hitman 2 on PC and XB1 and between the two with the new levels and replaying the older levels up to 20/20 Mastery, I've got well over 100 hours into the game.

      RDR2 bored the life out of me after 5 hours. It is beautiful, vibrant and the characters are so fascinating. Unfortunately Rockstar seriously dropped the ball and show how bad they are at storytelling and mechanics.

      @gab_gallard 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @John Moon Cool game, but to be honest Rockstar didn't innovate much since GTA 4. Everything is bigger and more refined, and that's it. They need to take more risks. With the amount of profit they make with every release they totally could start experimenting with something new aside from their flagship franchises.

      I want to play Hitman season 2, but why should I buy it, when I can't get my self to finish Season 1 due to a complete lack of any story with substance.
      Releasing in a window dominated by whalenight, COD and Red Dead 2 (story mode) might not have been a good idea either.

    • @RoyalJesusChrist
      @RoyalJesusChrist 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@kenneth83DK True, but Hitman 2 kind of picks up the pace in terms of the story, relative to the first game, but it's still mostly nonsense in my opinion. It's just some retconning and and a few truly ridiculous plot twists, but the real reason to buy Hitman 2 is the gameplay and replayability, not the story. There are a few things I dislike about the modern interpretation of Hitman, but it's a great game nontheless. The story takes a back seat, which fits the series in my opinion.

  • @SuperSamGalaxy

    One huge improvement that I wonder if people notice is the voice work. Of course David Bateson is always perfect as 47, but in the previous game they seemed to recycle the same few voice actors, which doesn't work in a game that takes place in locations around the world. It's odd to hear a character that's clearly meant to be a native speaker of another language speaking English with no accent. This makes it feel like a B movie. In the new levels, it seems they took this into account. Small detail, but it makes a difference.

    • @TheOrangeMatty
      @TheOrangeMatty 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The older Hitman games like Contracts, Silent Assassin etc also had good voice work in terms of how their accent was and also they spoke in their native language as well which made it more immersive in my opinion... I have no idea why Hitman 2016 didn't have native voice actors...

    • @SuperSamGalaxy
      @SuperSamGalaxy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@TheOrangeMatty Agreed. My guess is they had a small budget for voice work in the last game and were only able to hire a few voice actors to play all the parts, but it really gave the game a cheap feel. Being in the middle of Marrakesh, for example, and hearing everyone around you speaking English as their native language, is offputting because it's unrealistic.

    One of the things I love about Hitman 2016 and Hitman 2 is how sort of old fashioned they are. They're just unapologetically gamey-ass games that are all about the mechanics, with a huge focus on replayability. They have no pretense of realism (or of philosophical depth), with story placed firmly down the list after gameplay. This is also one of the things that made me love Metal Gear Solid V so much, despite being a longtime fan of the series and actually being invested in the story.

    I was actually wishing they would add a difficulty setting above Master. Something where leaving bloodstains on walls, or empty clips on the ground would count against your "professionalism". It's probably too niche, but with as much accessibility as they've added, it would be cool to see them tackle the more nuanced approaches by acknowledging these little details.
    Blood money had that newspaper gimmick. Which, while barely implemented into that game, was still (imo) a move in a really interesting direction. I want each level to end with a couple of gumshoes going over the scene of the crime with a fine tooth comb, picking out every piece of leftover evidence and trying to build a case.

      @@AidanCooperSolomon It is indeed a travesty. I think the series lacks the kind of mass appeal that you get with a hero like Snake. 47 is perfect for the series, but he's a bit of a hard sell to general audiences. The story in Hitman is also difficult to get excited about, even for fans of the actual game. There's no marketable FarCry-eske bad guy to focus on, or even a generic high stakes save the world kind of affair. I don't mind this at all, but I think people who don't realize how good the gameplay is might not be swayed by these lackluster external factors.

    Glad you mentioned how uncomfortable the settings and storylines can be. I dunno if a game's story has ever made me more angry (in a good way) than the final one in this game. Listening to the wealthy and powerful candidly chat in a party about how they've destroyed the earth for profit and then became environmentalists at the eleventh hour for good PR and now are buying secret bunkers to survive the impending apocalypse they caused while the rest of the world rots to death is the most efficient vertical slice of "fuck rich people" ever. It put the messed up situation of climate change into perspective in a blunt way that really stuck with me. The best advice I can come up with for anyone wanting to get into the new hitman games is to learn the maps. They are massive and lively and there's so much going on, but that also opens up avenues of travel and new disguises to stealth around with. Stories to experience and silliness to be had

    This game made me take Red Dead Redemption 2 out of my PlayStation to play it and I can say that is no easy feat to do. I hope these games continue to be made as IO has always listened to the community and made wanted improvements to their Hitman games. Hitman 2 by stands toe to toe with God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2 for my Game of the Year simply because it offers something that the other two don’t, a tremendous replay value. On a Side note I’m very glad you are giving this game the credit it deserves and thank you for mentioning David Bateson’s performance as 47 which is just excellent. Hearing 47 talk more than he usually does in this game was a huge plus for me.

  • @BackfallGenius

    Thanks for giving this the exposure it deserves. So many reviewers have just been calling it "Hitman 2016 expansion pack" but they're either completely missing the point of this game, or aren't playing it right, or just aren't the right audience for this type of game. The levels are designed for replayability, for REAL. No other game puts this much effort into smart/clever level design where you have so many alternate routes and paths and so many sectioned off or cordoned off areas that can only be accessed with the right disguise. Heck, I was discovering hidden areas in a level on my 9th or 10th playthrough when I was pretty sure I had the entire map memorized.
    We all loved Sapienza and Hokkaido from Hitman 2016, but every level in Hitman 2 meets that quality bar and sometimes goes beyond it. It's honestly shocking how they managed to pull off a game so well. IO Interactive knows this genre and their audience so well.

    I have long loved having 47 as an avatar of the kind of assassin you would want to be. I initially play like Vincent from Collateral and just adapt however i can. And then I love to play as a “target only, suit only” assassin.
    This and Splinter Cell (another franchise I have throughly enjoyed) should be way more recognisable and demanded by the general gaming public. Splinter Cell could be another Mission Impossible film franchise if managed correctly.

    I don't understand people. They'll shit all over hitman because one of the many side modes is a 2 week limited event, while big companies get away with much, much worse, and still get near-universal praise. Then there are the blood money fanboys who refuse to give anything else a chance and just immediately blow off the new games as absolution 2 and 3 because it doesn't have jesper kyd music or something.
    I blame the marketing mostly, unless you were already a fan of 2016 you probably heard nothing about this game, or at least so little that you'd be confused and turned off by the weird release structure. The season finale should just have all three seasons in one game, don't even call it hitman 3, give it a subtitle, and revamp the unlock system so that us old fans don't have to unlock the same things for a third time. That I think is a winning formula to make a successful hitman game.

    I find these new hitman games(2016, 2018) to feel more like old school splinter cell, With the older assassins creed crowd blending added in hitman 2. Wich is awesome in my opinion. A sandbox where stealth actually feels important and fun instead of just an added feature like most games these days. This game deserves praise for all it's moving pieces in each level. Maybe it's just that don't remember much from hitman 2016 but I feel they stepped it up a bunch in hitman 2.

    I've been waiting for Hitman 2 to come out specifically so that the first would be 100% complete. I'm not a fan of the episodic design of these games, but Hitman has always been one of my favorite series of all times. The time sensitive missions in Hitman 2016 will unfortunately be something I missed out on, but I would rather have one long playthrough of the game than spend time waiting between the episodes. It's just how I prefer to play my games. Good to see that Hitman 2 seems to improve on everything the first in this reboot series did, and maybe by the time I finish the first game this one will be nearly complete.

  • @DensetsuVII
    @DensetsuVII 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Okay so I've never played a Hitman game. I'm not huge on stealth but George's depictions are always compelling and I do enjoy the environment design I've seen. I had completely forgotten this game was out after seeing some demos near E3. And every time someone talks about it or I see an article about it I need to spend time figuring out if they're talking about the new game or the older. And after all the debacles with DLC in the last game, I wasn't even sure whether I could get this entire game in one purchase (which, as a newcomer, still entails a high asking price for a game I'm not sure I'll enjoy). Or given this review, whether I should be getting the first one as well? The point?
    In some ways, it really doesn't matter how much this series appeals to fans; its already niche audience appears to have shrunk with the DLC debacles that do the double duty of making it confusing to newcomers who want to try the game. The gameplay, I'm sure, may be much more accessible than ever. The game however, looks like it is not. The fact that he needs to spend 2 minutes at the end explaining how to get into it, in a way that... to be honest, I'm just too stupid to understand.
    I'm not a stealth gamer. I'm borderline on whether I'd enjoy this. So having to know which edition to buy and knowing I'll still end up spending what equates to 4 good indie titles to see if I'll like it? I feel like a lot of potential buyers went through this thought process and maybe concluded as I do that... I'm not sure I can justify buying it.
    I dunno, just wanted to share that opinion *shrug

    "That is egregious. That is putrid." That's how you described the business practices of the always-online single player game last time.
    This can't be game of the generation if future generations won't be able to play it properly. It really is tragic. It's honestly aastounding how just one single factor ruined the entire game. I don't care how good it is (the fact that it's good makes me angrier), if a single-player game holds it's players hostage, then that's unforgivable.

    Bless You, Our Lord of the Georgesocks. I've been considering getting this, but I wasn't sure the best way to go about it as I missed (deliberately; I did not like what Squeenix was trying to do with it) Hitman 1. Now I have it answered.

    These Hitman games are pure genius. Funny and suspenseful at the same time and drowning in gameplay options and angles. Beautifully crafted maps. Huge depth of sub plots and npc dialogue. The developers are so talented it's filthy.

    Well, you’ve convinced me. Downloading the game and the legacy pack as I’m typing.
