    I love fishing there. I've run into moose down by the parking area beaver ponds. 😂 love the video

      Ryan, I’m not sure why I didn’t see your comment so I’m sorry for that. This place is such a great place in the fall. Hope to see you out there this year

    I think those cutthroats may have been Colorado River cutthroat if you were fishing on the west side of the park, still very cool fish. Generally west of the great divide is Colorado River and East of it is Greenback I believe.

      Luke, you’re absolutely correct about the west side vs East side. The Wild Basin is on the east side of the park, down in the lower southern corner. I have been fortunate enough to find and fish most all of the Greenback populations in Colorado over the past few decades. There’s a small population near Empire, CO I’ve even fished as well as Zimmerman Lake. And I was lucky to fish Lily Lake for the huge Greenbacks in there before the big flood completely wiped out the lake.

      Trout Soup, very cool, I’m planning on going out to Estes this summer and looking for some multi species trout action, are greenbacks difficult to catch in the lakes (like dream and emerald). Also since you seem to know quite a bit, much more than me, do you have any knowledge of Yellowstone cutthroat in lake Haiyaha? Thanks for any info

      Luke Harms The last time I was at Haiyaha was in the 90s, BUT I fished Dream Lake last spring right after ice out. And it’s very close to Haiyaha (which means Rock in Hawaiian because of the large boulders and rocks found all over the lake). Two fly fishermen came down from there that day last May and gave me a report: they both said there’s some huge Cutts in there. I haven’t personally seen it. As far as Yellowstone Cutts go, I sincerely doubt it. They’re almost assuredly Colorado Cutts, But what is strange I do know that RMNP stopped ALL stocking and distribution of Cutts back in the 80s-90s and let the park go ‘natural’, meaning only native, wild populations would exist for the future. As this happened over the past 25-30 years many of the high mountain lakes in there are now devoid of fish. Even once populated lakes (like in the Never Summer Range) are now barren.

      Luke Harms if you’d like to contact me more easily, you can use my email address: mattfugazzi@yahoo.com OR by text @ 303-523-6333. Feel free to ask about other spots too, I enjoy talking fly fishing whenever I can

      Trout Soup thank for the info, I was just curious about Haiyaha because I have seen from a fews sources that Yellowstone Cutties were stocked and an instagram post from a couple years ago with supposedly a large one caught in Chaos creek, it even had pictures, but it’s hard to tell. Either way, thank and tight lines.

    Great photos love the small trout. What size rod did you use in this water? Your wife is super cute too.

    • @TroutSoup1
      @TroutSoup1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Thomas Bonnot Hey thanks Thomas, my wife’s a keeper since she likes fly fishing. The rod’s a 3 wt carbon; great for small tippets and small flies up to size 14.

    What's the typical size of fly's you use???

    • @lucianosilvestri8561
      @lucianosilvestri8561 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      18+ ???

    • @TroutSoup1
      @TroutSoup1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lucianosilvestri8561 Fly sizes I “typically” use would be a size 16 for my first dry and then my dropper might be a size 18-20. In summer UI in the high lakes, I’ll either just use a size 16 dry or if it’s early season like in Where the Cutthroats Are, vol 2 @ Ouzel Lake, I typically use smaller sizes for midge hatches - 18-22. Same goes for winter fishing: smaller sizes are generally needed
