It’s a New Beginning For The Succulent Fountain🎉

- I pulled the cast of characters from the gutters, cardboard boxes and off of a drop cloth and reassembled the fountain.
It’ll be fun and interesting to see how they do in this new microclimate!

I love the idea of replacing the green hot mess shrub with your succulent gutters. Also, it looks like there is an old and over grown asparagus fern in front of the fountain. I find asparagus fern to be a garden thug and suggest pulling it our and replacing it with something more interesting if possible.
Yesss! Asparagus fern is my enemy. So hard to get rid of and spreads everywhere.

I'm interested in seeing how this will evolve, surely you'll have to switch some things out and I always have a hard time finding shade/bright light loving variety. This one will be an inspiration. 😍

The fountain looks wonderful. The light should be fine in the summer. Since the front of your home faces North, you may not have enough light in the winter to keep some of the plants happy. Time will tell. It is always fun to see what happens. Two years ago, I took photos on the first day of the solstices and equinoxes at 10/2/6 o’clock. Now I know what light I have when putting in new plantings.
When you were planting the plants together & you said that, all I could think of was the lyrics to an old Peaches & Herb song, "Reunited & it feels so good...."!
I moved to Palm desert from the OC and I don't think my babies will ever forgive me. Thank you for showing me I'm not alone in the struggle with moving and pouting plants.

I have no idea about gardening, plants etc but I feel in love with succulents about a year ago. I recently bought a house and our front yard looks terrible so I will trust my instincts and follow the great advices you give and give it a shot at planting. I truly enjoy your videos

I think a giant frame in place of the gutters if you guys can mount it somehow would be so pretty on that wall! Maybe put post legs on it of some sort? Do the succulents do better in gutters than they do in those wall frames?
a fountain of jewels, i love it!! so pretty... will you put rock or something around it? and i couldn't help but stare at the shelf behind that giant "monster" philodendron (please, landlady, let her remove it, lol) but ohhh, the possibilities of pretty pots on that shelf... 😁 love that you are just doing it! no stalling, no overthinking, just move in, get settled, get things the way you want, and move on! i'm happy Bentley is happy, and happy new cardiac year 'round the sun to Greg! your neighbors are so lucky.. i'd be hanging out all day trying not to be too annoying... 🤣🥰🥰🥰🥰

That is really the perfect spot for the fountain! It will be interesting to see who does what in the succulents. I am sure the aloes will appreciate the shade, mine in the sun do ok but they do stress a little.

I’m wondering if during the year the sun will transition in its trajectory and if the fountain will get some light. I discovered that the hard way when I moved here, and succulents only receiving bright light started receiving full direct light in June 🥵 Life’s a test kitchen, anyway.

Gorgeous! Yes, try a fertilizer with SOP. Works great. I helped my neighbor/friend last Sunday re-do her succulent pots-it was SO FUN. I meant to help with a pot or two and stayed 2 1/2 hours! I was def changeling my inner Laura Eubanks. 🧡

That is gorgeous and a great way to repurpose a fountain. Areas of the US and other countries are running out of water and putting restrictions so succulents will likely become more popular. Regarding cushions, had the same issue then put a question on NextDoor and turned out a few people had that skill to make the covers as they do their own, just as an idea. I also had an set of cushions that I did not want to recover, they were quickly snapped up on FreeCycle. A nurse used them for a sofa he was making.

It would be awesome if you built a succulent wall in that space discussed at 11:27 in todays video. One of those with cascading pockets that covers most of the wall. I have been wanting to build one myself but seems too complicated. It would be an amazing teaching video 🙏

Big hugs to Greg and you. My husband suffered the same widow-maker heart attack twice in two weeks and survived just a month before Greg did. I know that there are times when I still make up in the middle of the night to make sure he’s breathing. So glad you are still with us Greg. You bring so much joy to the rest of us as you help your beautiful wife create her beautiful creations.

There is a frame like thing people buy here to make a “living wall”. It has fabric pouches you fill with soil and then add plants. It is the size of a pallet. I’ve never seen one with just succulents but I bet it would be awesome…! Bill in Florida.

Pray the Lord and whoever helped Greg when he suffered a heart attack at the airport. I heard that in this kind of situation, the first few minutes are the most critical in surviving a heart attack. Look at him now, he's working crazy like nobody's business 🙏❤️🙏

My sedum adolphi etiolated and reverted to green even though they get a fair amount of light. I took a page out of your book and cut them and stuck the cuttings in the more light to stress them out to bring the color back before I figure out where to reset.

It's beautiful! I was thinking that, since it is a fountain, the plants will be sitting in water until I heard you say drainage holes had been drilled.
My nephew wants one of those split leaf philodendron like the one you have out front so darn bad.
I think you mentioned that you don't want it there. If you do choose to take it out I really suggest you either sell or offer it up. Those things take a long time to mature and they mean a lot to a lot of people. You can really make someone happy
If I'm wrong and you/the homeowner wants to keep it obviously everything is moot but if you don't want to remove it.
