I bought my Gen 4 27 shortly after watching this vid. My 27 has become a real pardner. So much so that I named it "Fred". Fred and I go to the grocery store. We go get gas for the truck...we go everywhere. He's remarkably polite. Never argues with me. Always content to just do what I want to do. He's very patient too. He's got my back the entire time. I just bought a g27 gen 4 the other day. Love it! Ive found it to be very managable, despite what many online reviewers say about the recoil. I think that has been blown way out of proportion! If your on the fence and like the 40 s&w round, but are worried about the recoil, its really not bad. My opinion is that is way overblown.
I agree with you, I'm an inch shorter than you and just 5lbs lighter and I've always used .40 S&W without a problem. I've fired .45ACP and .44 Mag too and the ACP is managable but the .44 nope. 40 S&W is tame in comparison.

This is the most excited I've ever seen this guy get while shooting a gun. I've watched a ton of his videos, & while he may not admit it, or put the g27 on his list of his favorite Glocks this is his favorite hangun of all time no questions asked.
Great overview just got my G27 Gen 4 OD Green yesterday and today went to the range and put 50 speer lawman 180gr, 50 Winshester White box 180gr, 50 Blazer 180gr, 50 Remington 180gr, 50 Range Reloads 180gr, 25 Zombie Max 165gr and 25 Golden Saber 180gr without any issues on my G27 Gen4. I can watch the new videos, but its something about these old videos, you all have so many great videos that till this day are still teaching us. I love my glocks, and its honestly because of you! GB
You betcha; forty to fifty years of experience shooting and owning hundreds of different handguns tends to give one a little bias. :-) Most will get the job done, however, and for anybody who really doesn't shoot all that much, it especially doesn't matter. He won't be able to tell that much difference. I don't talk about it much because it sounds a bit elitist, but the more proficient a person becomes with a pistol, the more he notices the little things that make one more desirable.
I'm a 40 Glock guy too. My first Glock was a 23. I have the 27, 22, 35. They are what I like. I gave both my adult sons Glocks also. My youngest son has more than me, but he's a 9mm guy. I didn't want him shooting up all my ammo so I bought him a G43 for his 21st Bday. He now has several G 9mms. My oldest is a 40sw fan.
Best purchase was my Gen4 G23 and G27... I sold my lc9s and G19. After shooting 9mm and .40 for years I am way happier with the .40. People who complain about ammo cost should shut up Its 10$ more a box. BIG DEAL. Get a real job or sell your gun.
@unomas58 , Yeah, it's a good thing I don't have this many magazines for other guns I test and review. Watch out when it's Glock video time - lots of magazines around! :-)
Well, I'd look at all the various grips out there. There's this grip cover called Agrip, I think. I've bought a set, but I didn't like them enough to use them, but they cover the whole grip, if I recall correctly and are more like felt or something? There might be others like that, something soft. I don't care for shooting with gloves, as some do, but that might be the more obvious answer. You could surely find gloves that protected your skin well enough.
Ring up another sold Glock Model 27, courtesy Hickok45. I went into a local gun range/store, rented a Gen3 Model 27, and put 100 rounds through it. Immediately upon completion of my session in the range, I turned in the rental gun and bought a brand new one. I love this gun. It felt right in my hand, and the recoil was more manageable than I had anticipated. It was watching one of your videos, Hickok45, that prompted me to give the pistol a try. Job well done, sir.
Same this was my first pistol also. Love it. I actually shot some 9mm the other day and I now really want a CZ75B. But this pistol will be the one that protects me at home.. due to California's communist 10 round magazine laws. If I could hold a 15 or 20 round magazine in a 9mm then it might be a different story. The .40 has the proven ballistic performance.. can't ignore science and physics.
I have a Glock Model 19 Gen 2, which I love. I have a Glock Model 30, which I also love. But there is just something about that Glock Model 27 that I like just a bit better. It feels good in my hand, and I don't mind the "dreaded" snap of the .40 S&W in the least.
I like how you explain this weapon! I have never owned a Gun but damn you just got a subscriber, and I've made my mind up to get a Glock 27 or Glock 23 for Concealed carry. I will of course take proper gun safety classes! Thank you again Hickok45 !!
Geno Brock I would recommend going with the 27. I carried the 23 EDC for close to 5 years. when I switched to the 27 for EDC, I loved it. much more comfortable, easier to conceal with smaller/more restrictive clothing, and you can always use the bigger magazines like the video shows.
hickok45 thxx for all the knowledgeable info,, ive been wacthing all of your videos for a while now, when ever i need to know something about firearms i go to your channel, as a proud taurus owner of the millennium G2 9mm, mind you i have over a 1000 rds thru this nice piece with no jams, fail to feed or misfires etc, i have finally made my cross to the glock 27 gen4, i mean what can i say, your vids proved to me that this firearm is great choice :), stay safe my friend and carry on;)
Ter Hel, Because you are left handed with small hands make sure you buy a Gen 4 Glock 27. With the gen 4 you can change the magazine release button so you can reach it with your left thumb. The grips of gen 4's are a tad shorter then gen 3 Glocks, (better for smaller hands) unless you put the size "M" extension that comes with it. Then it's the same as every other Glock. I love mine.
After watching your video's I decided to go with the Glock 27 instead of the XD subcompact. Got my 27 gen4 about two weeks ago and I love it so much. I completely understand why you love this great little gun with a good punch. My new favorite Glock for sure. Love all your videos Hickok, don't ever stop making them!
gutadin5 hey man, my first Glock was the Gen 4 Glock 19 about 10 years ago. Then I bought a Glock 42 in .380acp that I carry in the Summer. Then I bought a Glock 21 3rd Gen in 45acp that I have next to me in my nightstand. Then I bought a Glock 22 3rd Gen in 40 cal that I keep on the top of my Fridge. And lastly I have a Glock 26 4th Gen in 9mm that I carry sometimes. I love Glocks.
THis video starts out with a most impressive run. Really amazing sound on this video, the number and pace of strikes is amazing considering the difficulty of the weapon.
As always, great video! The 27 was my first CC weapon and still my favorite. When I got my CCW in California around 2012, it was the only decent sub I could find in stock. Nothing I've purchased since has measured up. I didn't think I liked Glocks until I owned one.
one of the things I love most about glock is the bigger mags fitting. I did the same thing as you when I was law enforcement. carried my 23 on duty with the 15rd mags as the spares. carried my 27 off duty with some kind of combination of the 13rd and 9rd mags as spares. still carry the 27 for CCDW EDC
Love the shirt!, John's camera work is so good when you see the bullet trajectory hitting the gong and you can see the pathway. A wonderful fun, relaxing video to watch on a spring day in Kentucky. I actually get a kick out of how a shooter can have so much fun even while missing a chicken. I sometimes get more fun figuring out what to change after a miss than I do hitting dead center some mornings. My Glock 27 handles so well it surprised me since it was my first 40.
Sir...I have had the extreme pleasure of stumbling across your videos, in early September. I was interested in purchasing a Glock 26 or 27....after watching your videos, I did purchase the 27 Gen 4. I find you to be an upstanding gentleman, that is quite knowledgable regarding firearms. Your videos, were certainly the catalyst for my purchase. I am a 46 year old retired Correctional Officer (18 years) from Central New York State...Once again, thank you Sir for your guidance and inspiration...Jim
Still carry my 18 year old Glock 27 it was made sometime in October 1996,It still shoots well and not one malfunction, well one stove pipe but reliable maybe more so than even the problems there were with gen 4 models...
I just wanted to thank you for your videos. After watching them I went straight out and bought my first Glock a G27. Loved it so much a bought a G20 a month later. Because of your reviews I just bought 2 Ruger LCPs. Any manufacturer that sends you demo guns is investing wisely!
over 5k rounds in both of my Gen 4 .40s with same barrel, spring and frame.. Its a glock. Do your research and own one before you come on here tryna assume or bash.
Hey Hickok 45, I'm a Armed Security Off in Chicago and this is my favorite video of the entire Glock line. And I picked one up and I love it more than my G23!!
I chose the Gen4 Glock 27. Recoil is the same as a Glock 23. Very acceptable and as accurate as the 23,with a slightly shorter barrel! I guess that's why Hichock45 jokes about Glocks being the "Master Bullet Slingers"! G27 is my absolute conceal carry and back up weapon for my Armed Security Job. Hands Down.
djdenn60609 thanks, It's a fact I will get one, my sig P229 .40 SRT has dissapointed me a little bit since it had some factory trigger problem (which they fixed) and only accepts fiocchi and pmc brands to run flawless, still shoots like a dream, but I want something a little more concealable and that has zero diet on ammunition. Thanks
picked up brand new glock27 gen4 and glock23 gen4 last week now all i need is some land to set up my range this shooting can get a little costly glad i planted that money tree years ago love your chanel hickok45 jammed with great info thanks
Zach Morris i would agree because only gun guys know who he is, but even though he's an older gentleman he stands at a staggering 6+ feet tall, you'd be a fool to try it anyway haha
Hey Hickok have you tried the N82 (pronounced Nate squared) tactical holster? I have a couple one for a 23 and a SR9c I have. Getting ready to get a 27 and the holster for the 23 will probably suffice for the 27 as well. The professional series is the only ones I have experience with. Very comfortable
Just bought my Gen 4 Glock 27 based on your reviews thanks! It feels great in the hand and I cant wait to shoot it! It's my first Glock. I finally broke down and bought it to see what all the hype has been about for years. I was always one of those guys that doesnt like to buy what everyone else has. But in some cases there are reasons why everyone has them :) Thanks Hickok! Your vids are so informative and have helped me on my last three purchases.
Hickok, After obtaining my carry permit I was up in the air about what to start with as a carry gun. After watching a bunch of your videos, I finally decided on the Glock 27 Gen4. It was a great choice. Your videos are awesome and I have learned a lot from them. Keep it up!
Honestly to not much different thn the 9mm ive shot both back to back and the g27 wasnt bad at all n jus as accurate. If fact my mom complaine the taurus 38 snub hurt her hand more than the g27.....go figure
And don't forget all you need is a barrel swap and some mags and you can shoot 9mm or 357 from it as well, 3 guns in one, and with how quick and easy glocks are to break down, it literally takes 2 seconds and you have another caliber ready to fire. 💪👌
I shot a Glock 27 today. Gen 5 for the first time fell in love absolutely amazing I feel like I shoot it wait better than the glock 22 gen 5 . Something about it, it really doesn't feel like a 40 cal . Handle's beautifully so smooth you almost don't feel recoil
hickok45 Do you have an opinion on the polymer guide rod vs. metal guide rod debate? Is it really an "upgrade" to install an aftermarket metal guide rod? Or, does a metal guide rod tend to "tighten the tolerances" of the pistol and increase the likelihood of a malfunction?
lkjh00on89 i replaced my plastic guide rod with a metal guide rod with a 2 pound heavier spring, feels like a different gun, i think i spent like 20-30 bucks, so worth it
Thanks to all who have replied to my question about the 22 and the 27. I'm inclined to agree with you guys! I think that this debate is kind of unfair to Glock as they are the highest selling pistol in the world, to my understanding that is. So it would only seem only right to hear about kaboom's from them. I'm sure it happens to Colts and Berettas also. (One time military pistols, also) Everyone wanted one of those for the same reason they wanted Glock: The Military Can't Be Wrong! They trust and have tested it's reliability! So, again, thanks for the replies! Yes, I 'm a "Glock-tard" or "Fanboy " or whatever you want to call me. However, I do appreciate a good 92fs also! I don't just tote Glock! I just like them most! Sorry about the rant! Hope the best to you all in whatever gun you choose!
Hello Hickok45 Your review is the reason I just went and bought a Glock 27 gen 4 I just bought it from GT dist for $398.00 plus tax. Thanks again for the great videos. Tell Glock they just sold me one because of you.
This morning i went into my local gun shop to tell the fellow i had decided that my first pistol would be a Glock 27 and would he try to find me one. He was busy with something so i looked into the case and there was a black gun with a 27 on the side of it. He said i just put it out 15 minutes ago. i said sold Hickock45 said good gun so wrap it up. i even could break it down because of watching you. Thanx Hickok45
@SloJoe18, Yeah, I got some extra shot in, didn't I? I just love to shoot; in fact, I shoot more ammo than I probably should, as Steve Lee and his daughter point out in music! :-)
Hello sir, I own, and frequently use, a 22 Gen. 4 and love it. It is my first and only Glock. Recently, I began looking into buying a more concealable Glock. I was concerned because I keep reading reports of Gen. 4 failures on forums. I have watched your reviews of the Gen. 4 23 and 27, and all of my worries have been resolved. I will be buying a G23 and a G27 within the year thanks to your reviews. Good shooting, good commentary, good job!
I mean honestly gen 3 4 or 5 you would be fine there's always going to be issues with any generation here and there that's just the name of the game... I have a slight preference for a stock Gen 4 over a three because of the extended mag release but then again you can still get aftermarket extended mag releases for the Gen 3
After watching this video I stumbled across this same exact gun at a gun show here in Raleigh, NC. Used for the price of $385. Love the gun!!! Thanks Hickok45 for the review.
GREAT vid hickok45! You and I had shared some comments a little while ago about the Glock 27. Well, last week, I picked me up a Gen 4 27. Just shot it today. I absolutely love it! Great shooting, great feeling, great packing gun! Thanks for the advice!
@pumpsinc Depends on your personal preference. I would say it comes down to two things, if you want to be able to change what side your mag release is on, and if you want the grip back-strap to be smaller or bigger. If you have problems with the Glock "hump" or you are left handed, you may want to look into the gen 4s, if you shoot your gen 3 fine, then I would say keep it.
@tormozat , Around 09/07/2011, there was a new spring recall announced for many Gen 4 Glocks, but it did not affect the compact models, including the G27.
Just recently took some round files to a G27. A trigger guard undercut makes it much more ergonomic and comfortable as does Pearce PG-2733 pinky extensions with the top lip shaved off to stop pinching. Also, a threaded G23 barrel gives 100 more fps to Underwood 200gr Hard Cast. All that, plus a 9/16-24 compensator gives faster follow-up shots against lions, and tigers, and bears, oh my! Woods carry ready!
I doubt anyone's watched as many hickok45 vids as I have, but it took me until now to notice that he's a right-handed shooter who uses his left eye. Pretty rare, and that he's as good as it gets doing it is impressive indeed. To the previous posters, he doesn't get paid doing this.

I am a .40 S&W guy and carry Glock 27 (gen 3) ALOT!! With the Pearce ' pinky shelf' it's perfect!! God Bless You and yours!!
Geno Brock nice, precious. 👌🏻
@bobaroosa, I guess they are the same as the Gen 3. The grooves are in the right place for me, so I never notice them.
Just shot a Glock 27 for the first time today. Its an amazing little pistol
hickok45 thxx for all the knowledgeable info,, ive been wacthing all of your videos for a while now, when ever i need to know something about firearms i go to your channel, as a proud taurus owner of the millennium G2 9mm, mind you i have over a 1000 rds thru this nice piece with no jams, fail to feed or misfires etc, i have finally made my cross to the glock 27 gen4, i mean what can i say, your vids proved to me that this firearm is great choice :), stay safe my friend and carry on;)
Hey 9mm guys. Don't watch this. Your hand might hurt simply from viewing. Carry on.
@yousef ahmed No 40 has a little bit of recoil while a 9 has pretty much none.
🤣😂😂
@yousef ahmed i got the glock 20, with critical defense rounds lol
Went the glock 27 tho...need something to fit in my pocket
Ter Hel, Because you are left handed with small hands make sure you buy a Gen 4 Glock 27. With the gen 4 you can change the magazine release button so you can reach it with your left thumb. The grips of gen 4's are a tad shorter then gen 3 Glocks, (better for smaller hands) unless you put the size "M" extension that comes with it. Then it's the same as every other Glock. I love mine.
I agree, my 27 is "snappy" too but I wouldn't trade it for anything. It just feels right.
I own 5 Glocks, but after watching this it’s never been more clear that I need a Glock 27.
My dad bought me a Gen3 27 a year or two ago. Love it!
Angrybutcher now that’s love
Jon what are the Glock models you own?
gutadin5 hey man, my first Glock was the Gen 4 Glock 19 about 10 years ago.
@@Angrybutcher 27 is gen 4
Man Hickok45 basically never misses a beat! Just about every video i watch of his, he never misses the first shot
The 27 gen 4-5 are off the roster now so great move
I shot the glock 27 40 cal when I was 11 I looked like when Hickok shot that 500 magnum
@cavu79 , Seems the same. I think it's the same spring.
The Glock 27 is my favorite pistol as well.
one of the things I love most about glock is the bigger mags fitting. I did the same thing as you when I was law enforcement. carried my 23 on duty with the 15rd mags as the spares. carried my 27 off duty with some kind of combination of the 13rd and 9rd mags as spares. still carry the 27 for CCDW EDC
You just make music every time!!!!! I love it! Have learned so much from watching you
Just got my G27 Gen 4 and I love it. I shot 200 rounds at the range. Different types. They all fed nicely and perfect.
@michelthegreatable , That's a metal splatter shield.
I'm really starting to become a huge fan of this weapon, might just be my first.
Man I know this is an old video but my God you can shoot
Dude I thought the exact same thing like I could never hit targets that far out with a barrel that short!
Oh he can still shoot juuuust fine.
Still carry my 18 year old Glock 27 it was made sometime in October 1996,It still shoots well and not one malfunction, well one stove pipe but reliable maybe more so than even the problems there were with gen 4 models...
I rarely have seen hickock45 this chipper! :D
I just wanted to thank you for your videos. After watching them I went straight out and bought my first Glock a G27. Loved it so much a bought a G20 a month later. Because of your reviews I just bought 2 Ruger LCPs. Any manufacturer that sends you demo guns is investing wisely!
love my 27 personally I wouldn't carry anything below a .40
TCCGunner 9mm ammo is so much cheaper.
TCCGunner the .40 caliber round is dead it's worse on the frame than a .45
+Tyrone CatKiller Kang if your shooting a .40 in a glock bet it won't see 5k rounds and like I said .40 is dead
over 5k rounds in both of my Gen 4 .40s with same barrel, spring and frame.. Its a glock. Do your research and own one before you come on here tryna assume or bash.
John Daniel people love to hate on the .40
Hey Hickok 45, I'm a Armed Security Off in Chicago and this is my favorite video of the entire Glock line. And I picked one up and I love it more than my G23!!
which generation did you pick? I am interested in getting one, what about the recoil? is it acceptable?
I chose the Gen4 Glock 27. Recoil is the same as a Glock 23. Very acceptable and as accurate as the 23,with a slightly shorter barrel! I guess that's why Hichock45 jokes about Glocks being the "Master Bullet Slingers"! G27 is my absolute conceal carry and back up weapon for my Armed Security Job. Hands Down.
NOTHING, NOTHING, SHOOTS LIKE A GLOCK.
djdenn60609 thanks, It's a fact I will get one, my sig P229 .40 SRT has dissapointed me a little bit since it had some factory trigger problem (which they fixed) and only accepts fiocchi and pmc brands to run flawless, still shoots like a dream, but I want something a little more concealable and that has zero diet on ammunition. Thanks
Imagine if that would have happened while you were conceal carrying and someone had you at gun point...
hickok45, can you do a g27 gen 4 revisited video.
picked up brand new glock27 gen4 and glock23 gen4 last week now all i need is some land to set up my range this shooting can get a little costly glad i planted that money tree years ago love your chanel hickok45 jammed with great info thanks
I feel sorry for the fool that plays the knockout game with Hickock45
Zach Morris i would agree because only gun guys know who he is, but even though he's an older gentleman he stands at a staggering 6+ feet tall, you'd be a fool to try it anyway haha
Hickock45, best gun salesman EVER ! Keep up the great reviews, God Bless, and God Bless America :)
I need to get to the range more.
Haaaaaa !
Hickok, After obtaining my carry permit I was up in the air about what to start with as a carry gun. After watching a bunch of your videos, I finally decided on the Glock 27 Gen4. It was a great choice. Your videos are awesome and I have learned a lot from them. Keep it up!
Life's amazing and so are you.
Hickok! Thank you SO much. I recently started shooting in the past month. Today I purchased my Glock 27 Gen 4 :)
I couldn't be happier.
Nobody handles the snap of the 40 like hickock45
Honestly to not much different thn the 9mm ive shot both back to back and the g27 wasnt bad at all n jus as accurate. If fact my mom complaine the taurus 38 snub hurt her hand more than the g27.....go figure
And don't forget all you need is a barrel swap and some mags and you can shoot 9mm or 357 from it as well, 3 guns in one, and with how quick and easy glocks are to break down, it literally takes 2 seconds and you have another caliber ready to fire. 💪👌
Can you be my grandpa? You would make the absolute best dad or grandpa. Not even kidding.
I wish Tim Allen was my dad and Hickok was my grandad.
Cletus Kasady yeah seriously lol cars and guns all day long
Cletus Kasady thats sad. what about your real dad?
I’ll get him in the weekends we need time share him lmao
I shot a Glock 27 today. Gen 5 for the first time fell in love absolutely amazing I feel like I shoot it wait better than the glock 22 gen 5 . Something about it, it really doesn't feel like a 40 cal . Handle's beautifully so smooth you almost don't feel recoil
salute from stockton Cali"🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
hickok45 Do you have an opinion on the polymer guide rod vs. metal guide rod debate? Is it really an "upgrade" to install an aftermarket metal guide rod? Or, does a metal guide rod tend to "tighten the tolerances" of the pistol and increase the likelihood of a malfunction?
lkjh00on89 i replaced my plastic guide rod with a metal guide rod with a 2 pound heavier spring, feels like a different gun, i think i spent like 20-30 bucks, so worth it
Glock and hickok45, what a great matched pair that is, and your son is as good with a camera as you are with a gun, thumbs-up to you both.
@OZombieJesus , The guy that makes them sent these to John and me a few months ago.
this man is a beast
Hello Hickok45
Your review is the reason I just went and bought a Glock 27 gen 4 I just bought it from GT dist for $398.00 plus tax. Thanks again for the great videos. Tell Glock they just sold me one because of you.
Literally bought a g27 because Hickoks videos. Great gun
Hello sir,
I own, and frequently use, a 22 Gen.
Just bought my first Glock, a 23 gen 4. Thank you for all your input and reviews. Awesome videos!
@JHeadrickSr Try what again? These are all factory rounds - these were mostly UMC 180 grain rounds. I shoot only 180 grain rounds.
Thank you Hickok45. After watching your video. I bought my new Glock 27 today. Great gun.
Thanks for the advice!
love it when you are shooting the gong you can see the bullet traveling down range
@pumpsinc
Depends on your personal preference.
I would say it comes down to two things, if you want to be able to change what side your mag release is on, and if you want the grip back-strap to be smaller or bigger.
If you have problems with the Glock "hump" or you are left handed, you may want to look into the gen 4s, if you shoot your gen 3 fine, then I would say keep it.
love how the wild life isn't fazed around hickoks compound. The birds are still chirping at 13;30 after at least 50 rounds.
Just bought one today Hickok 45. You are right that last round is tough to load.
If there is ever an zombie apocalypse I would certainly want you on my team !!
I like the blast from the 40 cal, but I like the 357 even better. I got the glock 33 barrel and put it in the 27. Great fun
Clear Combat Self Defense and Fighting System doesn't glock make a small .357 sig?
This what I carry.. i got such a great deal on it. 2 mags, a hard holster, the gun, 2 full boxes of Winchester ammo... 300 bucks. That in 2023.
I doubt anyone's watched as many hickok45 vids as I have, but it took me until now to notice that he's a right-handed shooter who uses his left eye. Pretty rare, and that he's as good as it gets doing it is impressive indeed. To the previous posters, he doesn't get paid doing this.
