    S***, I administer medications as a RMA. Guess it depends on where you work and what your physician allows. Now I'm not too sure about administering steroid shots but I administer a lot of immunizations, I do blood draws, ekgs, lab work, front desk work, etc.

      I’ve always worked at university’s, I work at university of Loyola in Chicago, came from university of Iowa I’m a medical assistant have been 7 years I come from neurosurgery and made a big mistake joining surgical ortho. In ortho they don’t let allow us to administer these meds because they go into the joint, it’s not a regular subq or im or anything like that. I’m glad I’m finishing my last 2 weeks ik ortho, only been here 2 months and there’s no blood draws no ekgs no ear lavage no nothing ! We hardly even do vitals. I strongly suggest if your an MA who truly likes to be on hands stay AWAY from orthopedics.

      @indiag6361 ปีที่แล้ว

    I graduated as a Medical Assistant in 1983 . My curriculum included : Phlebotomy , Learning to take x-Rays , Typing and Injections . Once I was in the real world , the only skill I was able to do was drawing blood and weighing patients . I only worked for 2 months , because they had changed owners . Clinics send out their blood work to independent labs and hospital have x-ray technicians . I realized that the program was designed for one to be a "do everything" in a clinic. I ended up working in something else . These days I learned that you can take a course as a Phlebotomist Technician for two weeks and then get certified. In my opinion and just my opinion , being a Medical Assistant is like wearing a white gown and doing just a few things. My advice is that instead of looking to become a Medical Assistant, become a RN. .

    • @TheTehJoJo
      @TheTehJoJo ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But not everyone wants to become a RN. Some people just want a step food in into the medical field to see if it right for them like me. I’m about to do my MA programs and after go back for barbering.

    Even though you drew up the medication, by leaving it in a drawer that isnt locked, you have no idea who or what has been done to it when you return for it.
    EVERY medication drawn up in a syringe needs to be labelled, unless you are injecting it immediately after preparing it.
    What's with an 18g needle??? I sure hope you are changing it to a smaller needle before injecting it in a patient.
    Also, wipe the top of the vials with alcohol prep.
