    Why can't everyone in Congress be upfront and honest like you. Thank you for keeping us posted. I'm not from your state either, but you've got my vote too, if you ever run for a national office.

    Republicans in North Carolina: please do not let Jeff Jackson ever get voted out of office. America needs him.

    Thank you for keeping hope alive that there are good, respectful, honest adults representing us in Congess. I have been a supporter since you debated a sausage maker..still my favorite political debate! I hope that the latest NC gerrymandering and GOP targeting will not hurt you or your family and we will see a 2024 landslide vote for you !

      He’s not volatile enough for Republican primary voters. He’d win in a landslide in the general election but primary voters are off their rockers. They’d rather lose with Trump than win with a more moderate candidate

      He is not a Republican.

    • @0dylan

      @@mikederucki while that's true it shouldn't matter theoretically because he wouldn't be on the republican primary anyways, given that he would run as a democrat. I would love to see him on the ballot for president but I feel he would get pushed to the side by the media similar to how Andrew yang was.

    I can’t imagine any speaker will have an easy time in the current political landscape. Mr. McCarthy didn’t have it easy, but it seems he painted himself into a corner. Appreciate the transparency! Wish more of our representatives and senators did this!

    Even though this is unprecedented, it's not the "chaos" the media portrays. There were procedures, they were followed. What happens next will be... interesting, not necessarily chaotic. But thank you Rep. Jackson for this look inside.

    Any idea why the speaker pro tempore is kicking Democrats out of their office while Congress is out of session for a weak? I'm really hoping there is some sort of at least semi-plausible reasoning, and that he's not just being petty because Democrats didn't save McCarthy . . .

    • @lisas4444
      @lisas4444 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because he's a weak, petty, pathetic little man and it was the biggest insult he could think of to deliver to Speaker Pelosi while she was all the way across the country, mourning the death of her friend.

    I understand the vote, but doesn't this almost guarantee a more extreme Speaker? The previous one a least made concessions (albeit small). I don't see the future one offering any. I'm a registered Democrat, but I sincerely hope the caucus unites behind a moderate over the extreme nominees.

    Are the people a joke to all politicians? I fail to see how the vote to oust him doesn’t harm us at the end of the day since instead of working you’re all now just sitting on your hands trying to figure out what to do next as a shutdown still lingers overhead. You’re not solely to blame but what I’m asking you is to help make it make sense. As you’re someone on the side that helped open this Pandora’s box, how was this outcome for the good of the people? How was getting back at one person worth gambling the possible well-being of the country? I just don’t understand but I guess thank you for your contribution in pitting the livelihood of millions on a 50/50 coin toss of whether the next Speaker will be better or worse? Thank your party for siding with the fringe minority that decided it more prudent to play chicken with the government instead of brokering a reasonable deal and then convened to oust the person who caved to give us some more time since that “perfect deal” had yet to come to fruition in time.

    And for the hood of the country you voted with your minority instead of your conscience. Take your share of the credit for unseating the speaker

      I mean it's a tough call.
      A vote in favor is a vote of support.
      The issue is actually our black and white system.
      Yay or nay is insufficient in many cases.
      To elect a speaker they should all just vote for each member of Congress on a 0-5 scale.
      The two candidates that have the most support move to an instant runoff where each ballot is evaluated for preference between only those two candidates.
      Ballots that have assigned the same score to the two runoff candidates count as abstentions.
      It's called STAR Voting.
      It's a replacement to this nonsense. It should be used in all single seat elections, not just for Speaker of the House.

    • @mrh-TO-Canada
      @mrh-TO-Canada ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I thought it was odd that the Speaker would reach out to the minority party to prevent the government shutdown, then not offer them anything to garner at least some support for him. So I wouldn’t blame Rep. Jackson or the other Democrats. If McCarthy thought he was going to keep his speakership with Republican votes only, well that was his tactical error.

    • @lisas4444
      @lisas4444 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      How do you know what Jeff's conscience was? McCarthy needed Democrats, but offered crickets in return; I'd say that's pretty adequate to justify saying, "Best wishes."

  • @sheldoncheshire246

    I love your updates. Thank you.
    However, how is it that because the Speaker didn't broker a "deal", the minority party just threw gasoline on the fire? You all had a chance to take the high road and show the right flank they have no power when Congress works together (such as preventing the shutdown). And you didn't. This kind of behavior is likewise disappointing.
