I eventually worked out a pretty good version myself years ago but this is so accurate. I had the great privilege of seeing America live in Australia after so many years and yep i saw them play all these songs as I had tried. The greatest accoustic band ever so clever with maj7th and combinations just wonderful .Thank you so much James.

I could never figure out the opening strumming until I studied your post above. Perfect!!!! I'm 66 but I love music. (I'm just a tad above average but so what) Anyway...Thank you for the post. I know it takes time and an effort to do what you're doing. I can tell that you are one cool dude. My main songs are Neil Young, America, Cat Stevens and all of the other acoustical giants. Me too I’m 40 I like Jj a lot of the time I’m using his guidance to play through the 70s I’m sure he’s born early 80s like me I’m 40 and it’s actually hard to determine how good jj actually is one point don’t underestimate his playing ability he already proved to me 1 time he’s better than I thought by seeing him blast though Hans and craft of Simon Garfunkel stuff he’s every day player my problem I’m too hard on my instruments and guitars so fragile
Hey man, the 'A' thing is an A Major 7 chord. The 3 fingers on the 2nd fret would be a D Major 7, that's when the D string is strung. If it were only the 3 bottom strings, it would be an F# minor chord

Good question, I don't know. I've heard solo stuff by Dewey and Gerry and their songs both sound like America to me. I'll bet if I listened to Dan's solo material, it would also sound like America. :)
Your videos are always great but may I tell you that maybe you're wrong about the chords of the very beginning of that song ? I think It should be : 5 (thumb) - 0 - 7 - 6 - 5 - 7 then 5 (thumb) - 0 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 5 What do you think ? Hi from France !

It’s standard tuning, but the studio recording of the song was slowed, so you have to tune to the recording itself
