Facts and the Houston vs Chicago what if would be interesting the mj vs LeBron debate would we be a lot closer if mj and the bulls lost to the rockets twice
Hot take: If Kobe gets traded, his "incident" (to put it mildly) that took place in Colorado in 2003 gets brought A LOT more often, and he is seen by most fans more along the lines of Karl Malone. Only reason, in my opinion, Kobe is shielded from these conversations today is because he was able to build a near unmatchable legacy by being a star AND lifelong player for one of the biggest NBA teams and fanbases. And that legacy resulted in thousands and thousands of supporters that will always idolize him and will ignore, deny, or justify his past. If he gets traded, those fans and supporters of him are alone fewer, and more conversations are being had.
Well out of the incidents one was a lot more iffy while 1 was straight up "I banged a 13 year old get her pregnant and wasnt in her life until her son went into the ngl". Kobes while still kinda weird, was much easier to explain by just thinking "Maid did it for money". Maybe it was r word maybe not but its still miles better than karls incident.
Before I say what I am about to say I would just like to state that by no means am trying to justify or condone sexual assault. Now when it comes to rich black athletes being accused of sexual crimes or black men in general I tend to be a little weary because of this countries history. The Kobe Bryant and Karl Malone cases are completely different also. Karl Malone had “consensual” (but not really because she was underage) sex with a 13 year old that resulted in pregnancy. Kobe was accused of have non consensual sex with an adult. Not only did Karl Malone sleep with a 13 year old but there’s also proof he did it. Kobe on the other hand admitted to adultery yet claimed it was consensual a classic he said she said. This is where in almost every single case I believe the victim. However in the Kobe case the DNA suggested she had sex with another partner in the 15 hour period in which it allegedly happened and when they did the test. It also ended up being dropped and settled outside of court as well. With no prior or following accusations it does seem out of character, but then again I never met the guy I probably only saw what he wanted me to see. Anyway my main point in this whole comment is that the Karl Malone and Kobe situations aren’t really that comparable. And I think they should be treated differently by the public.
Also to further back up my claim about black americans being falsely accused at higher rates. “Currently, more than half of all wrongful convictions can be traced back to a false allegation or false testimony. Because Black people represent nearly half of all exonerations, the burden of false allegations falls disproportionately on them.”
This most definitely needs to be a series!! There are so many what ifs to talk about - what if Kyrie doesn’t leave Cleveland - what if kawhi doesn’t leave Toronto - what if lonzo doesn’t get injured - what if KD stays at okc - what if Brunson stays in Dallas - what if Cavs win game 1 in the 2018 finals PLEASE DO MORE
-what if kevin garnett goes to LA instead of celtics -what if kd shot counted as 3 pts in nets vs bucks -what if jordan didn't retired at 1994 -what if cp3 trade didn't vetoed -what if Derrick rose, kyrie in 2015, klay and kd in 2019,ad in 2021, and tmac yao didn't injured -What if shaq workout just like kobe -carmelo to detroit in 2003 -what if Seattle didn't change to okc -PG13 to cavs -kawhi to lakers -what if magic doesn't have HIV -shaq traded to bulls instead LA
@@nomorenoless1952 I think the most underrated/lowkey best what if is if Greg Oden was healthy, people said he was the next generational center after Shaq or what could've been a new Dwight or similar to Giannis, and he was also picked over KD (not as great as his older self but young KD was still nasty asf)
-what if Kobe accepts the reported trade to the Pistons in 07? -what if Carmelo is drafted #2 instead of Darko Milicic? -what if Penny Hardaway stayed healthy? -what if KD/Russ/Harden Thunder never split? -what if LeBron and Wade team up in Chicago instead of Miami? There's so many good ones.
Great point about Kobe though. People forget Kobe was getting SLANDERED during the next few years because he forced Shaq out. If he doesn't win more rings, people always say "Shaq won without you and you didn't without him" after you ended it
There's also the hypothetical mentioned in Hakeem's memoir that in the '84 draft, Houston had the chance to trade away Ralph Sampson for Portland's Clyde Drexler and their 1984 draft pick. Houston would have picked MJ second putting together a big three of Jordan, Drexler, and Olajuwon which could have been the greatest dynasty known to NBA history
One more comment about Bulls/Rockets in 90s - 1997 would be cool too instead of 1994. They fell two games short of finals. Even older, Hakeem/Barkley/Drexler vs Jordan/Pippen/Rodman would have been like like an avengers civil war of 90s hoops. Great show! New subscriber.
One thing yall are forgetting in the draymond being nice/KD warriors talk, is that if draymond were nice, he doesn’t get baited into hitting lebron in the nuts, doesn’t get suspended, and the warriors probably don’t blow a 3-1
The Kobe legacy talk was crazy cause I’ve never heard or thought about that before. But also to be fair to Kobe he basically said no to the trade cause lakers wanted Luol Deng but Kobe knew he needed deng with him in Chicago to be contenders
Random, what if a lot of people don't talk about it? What if Jordan didn't come out of retirement to play with the wizards and chose another team instead…
The biggest what ifs for me would be if cp3 was traded to the lakers back in the day. What if rose never got hurt. And what if Jordan never retured in the middle of his prime. I feel like the cp3 trade would have given us some lebron vs kobe finals where both teams were stacked. D rose being healthy would have given us some curry v rose battles that never got to properly happen. And Jordan staying on the bulls may have given him an 8peat...or his first finals losses, we'll never know
Tim Duncan has a great chance to win a ring if he went to Orlando. Remember how weak the East was. The Pistons were only great team and T-Mac scored 30+ vs them/Duncan played well vs them. T-Mac wasn't injury prone until Houston years.
I think the biggest modern day what if is "what if the Warriors win in 2016?" Lebron would've lost 2 straight finals, Cavs likely would've either blown up or be given one final season to win, Warriors would've won 2 straight, go into the offseason with cap space, KD likely would've joined a different team, meaning the Warriors would come in with a stronger team, with their toughest opponent in shambles, ready to 3-peat. Curry would've also likely played in the olympics that year, further adding to his legacy. Warriors would've still had their dynastic run, as they would've been able to win without KD, proven in 2022, Curry likely would've still ended up with 4 rings, and he'd be in the GOAT conversation over Lebron, who's failures in Cleveland would've been too big of a stain on his career, especially after the promises of championships he made to the city when he returned.
The one I think about the most is Elton Brand staying healthy. If the Clippers still send him to the Sixers and you have prime Brand with Andre Iguadala, Andre Miller, and a young Jrue Holiday? My ultimate fantasy is a Chris Paul going to that version of that Sixers team because that would be a crazy team and that structure isn't really worse than what the Clippers offered CP3. Edit: Lmao I checked who would have made it to the finals in the west in 2007 if the Spurs never did and Isaac just got Carlos Boozer's Jazz to the finals.
I think one that would be interesting would be what if the Magic paid Shaq instead of Penny? Shaq has said as much that Magic paying Penny and not him was what caused him to bolt for LA
People forget that Giannis was also injured vs the Hawks in 2021. Theres better what ifs for the 2021 season than Trae Young (if Harden and Kyrie didn't get hurt, if KD didn't have a huge shoe, if Kawhi didn't get hurt vs Utah, if AD doesn't get hurt vs Phoenix, etc.)
