The reason the blacked out/red color is banned is because you cannot see the activated V-Trigger for characters like Zangief or Abigail. Also the Forgotten Waterfall at night is banned because of the bats that come out of the cave. They push the frames per second down past 60 into the 30s.
from a game dev perspective, i think the reason why gutsman's costume is banned is because it blocks a core part of balrogs "danger point", that being his brightly coloured boxing gloves in almost every one of his skins his gloves are a very distinct colour compared to the rest of his costume, making them easier to focus on. I also seem to remember reading an interview where the dev's said they made characters hands and feet large to make them easier to keep track of out when staring at the screen, and his forearms are a lot larger than his fists, making the opponent misjudge how far the attack is
Man that last story is completely bogus. I get that rules are rules but, with the exception of the Wesker costume thing to an extent, they should've just let the match slide and warn the players between matches, especially since the Urien player clearly won so many times.

Skies of Honor alternative the plane is fixed grounded on a roof or a cargo hangar. Vega stage alternative no cage or Vega has a fix 3-4 sec limit of hanging & also can be knocked off the cage. Field of Fate, no grass covering feet & the right side of the screen could have a broken statue to give a visual tell it's the corner. The cage climb isn't op or needs to be fixed, it's just the principle that no one should ever have to consider that the stage they play in has any bearing on the tools a character has. It was stated in SF Wiki that The Grid was banned because it becomes easy to measure the distance using, well... The grid on the stage. Though now I think it would be a weird reason since both players will have this advantage and... Boom! It stops being an advantage.
For mysterious cove, I had a VERY bad graphics card and some of the lighting effects did not work correctly, making characters basically black on the stage. Idk why that would be an issue in tournaments but there you go
Meanwhile at Capcom HQ: "So yeah what if we added this into the game? Fans would eat it up, and we get a ton of money!" "Its all good, but I do have a few concerns... hows the competitive scene gonna like it?" "I mean... do they like anything sir?" "Fair point, print it."
The reason those dark EX skins are banned is because some character's stances, hyper armor modes etc. Give them a similar lighting phong along their body. The skin makes it hard to tell if it is or isn't active.
One of the Weskers has a darker skin color that does a good job of masking his vs1 power up. As for balrog gutsman his hurtboxes on his giant feet don't match up at all to his animation.
Some of the costumes are banned from Capcom Cups like the Megaman ones because they are confusing identifiers of who the characters are. If you don't know that the Gutsman costume is Balrog/Boxer, then as a viewer you would just be totally confused and wonder what character it is, or if the character is a new character you never heard about. Some of these bans has very little to do with game-play sometimes and more to do with identifying the character.
it's insane how often i fight people who picked the same exact characters Brian_F picked for the same exact stages that are banned because of that character.
I hope in sf6 they implement ways to turn off certain effects on stages and skins. In Tekken tag 2, the stages lose some background stuff, like npcs, wouldn't show. It's just odd to me that Gill, a character who came to the game much later, has a skin where the effects can't be turned off 😕
For the Takamura Ryan Hart controversy; that's really bad rule design. Like the banned costume resulting in a replay makes sense. But the second match shouldn't have been replayed. Not because grid is a fine stage - but because Takamura is the one who selected it. It makes no sense to penalize Ryan Hart for *not* breaking any rules.
5:55 Street Fighter 2 Movie, the fight between Ryu vs Sagat, where there is a computer from Mr Bison tracking their fighting power and everything else. Thta is the exactly stage, even the thunders and shit.
i wonder why they even make those stages that way. i'm not saying they should make every decision based on tournament play and not make some fun stuff for casual players, but i feel like no one would notice if you just removed the water covering your feet in the beach stage
I was expecting the banned customs to extend to the more edgier female skins lol but glad to see that Capcom has (mostly) legitament reasons for their choices
Fun fact, the thing Capcom ended up doing where their stream shows a different stage is very similar to what the Overwatch League does. The players are playing default skins with no meaningful differences from the game they have at home but stream side shows the characters are all team colored along with effects matching those colors.
I've been playing this game on and off for about 3 years now. (Finally got out of Silver and got Cody to Platinum just recently after playing seriously for about a month!) I've NEVER seen that Vega climb on his stage. Ever. That's the first time I've seen it.
I played a Rasheed using Skies of Honor last night ironically. I really like the music of that stage so I would play it on training before to get used to it so I wouldn’t get cheesed since it was popular when it was released. I guess the Rasheed realized I wasn’t going to be cheesed so he left after losing game 1 pretty badly.
Yeah, i agree with most of those, the plane scene is way too distracting for me. One of the costumes i think is weird you did not mention is the R.Mika Cheerleader... I dont know if is actually banned, but i always have problems with the hands of that costume.
you mean the pompoms? there's a code to remove them during a match, either in the prefight forecast, or in between rounds. LP, MP, HP, LK, up on the dpad, which is a universal code for most costumes.

Some of these bans has very little to do with game-play sometimes and more to do with identifying the character.
It is completely superfluous content like this that keeps me subbed to this channel.
it's insane how often i fight people who picked the same exact characters Brian_F picked for the same exact stages that are banned because of that character.
I hope in sf6 they implement ways to turn off certain effects on stages and skins. In Tekken tag 2, the stages lose some background stuff, like npcs, wouldn't show. It's just odd to me that Gill, a character who came to the game much later, has a skin where the effects can't be turned off 😕
i actually wish every stage had something like vega's stage.
Great video with a lot of interesting information.
5:55 Street Fighter 2 Movie, the fight between Ryu vs Sagat, where there is a computer from Mr Bison tracking their fighting power and everything else.
Thta is the exactly stage, even the thunders and shit.
Imagine going through the trouble of creating a stage or costume and not being allowed to use it... oh, wait.
Gill’s Pyron costume’s visual clarity is leagues beyond Pyron himself, lol. Man killed with epileptic seizures.
The ex 09 might be for characters who’s visual indicator is them changing colour. Like geif using armour.
a fun example back in 4 was one of Hakan's colors making the oil straight up invisible so you couldnt tell if or when it wears off
i wonder why they even make those stages that way. i'm not saying they should make every decision based on tournament play and not make some fun stuff for casual players, but i feel like no one would notice if you just removed the water covering your feet in the beach stage
The Vietnam message at 6:55 got me off guard. 🤣HSUAHSUAHSUAHSUA
I remember seeing an entire online tournament played on the airplane stage
They couldn't beat Airman so they just banned him!
Me, feeling super called out for Skies of Honor being my favorite stage.
Nice vid bro, enjoyed all of it
As soon as you mentioned the Ed outfit I got matched up against an Ed with that costume (for the first time ever…)
Edit: with rashid’s map

"I'm seeing double here, four eds"
I was expecting the banned customs to extend to the more edgier female skins lol but glad to see that Capcom has (mostly) legitament reasons for their choices
Capcom: Let's make nice stages
Capcom: Let's ban those stages.
Me: Lol
Keep making these dope ass videos and keep kicking ass in SFV!
10:12 oh damn that’s so cool tho
10:31 lmao pyron
12:43 lmaooo. Blanka chan is cool
17:02 word
Yeah, i agree with most of those, the plane scene is way too distracting for me.
One of the costumes i think is weird you did not mention is the R.Mika Cheerleader... I dont know if is actually banned, but i always have problems with the hands of that costume.
you mean the pompoms? there's a code to remove them during a match, either in the prefight forecast, or in between rounds. LP, MP, HP, LK, up on the dpad, which is a universal code for most costumes.
I physically can't play it because it makes me want to puke. That level is just an abomination, who the hell greenlit that garbage needed to be fired
@@oussamaokbi the problem is not the game but you go see a doctor
Blanka-chan is banned?! That's one of the best outfits in the game! I bought it even though I don't even play Blanka.
The Man In The Pickle Suit
The issue with mysterious Cove is that you can pick charactyer color's that blend in with the background
I love that you picked Abigail and Ken to show the EX09 color. Absolute degenerates lmao
This vid was crazy interesting brian I'd love 2 c more videos on CPT lore or stuff along those lines ??? Much love
Vega on the wall is dope gave me street fighter 2 vibes when he jumps on the wall on round 2
I would've guessed the Albert Wesker costume is banned because the physics cape would be visual noise.
3:13 more fighting games need this honestly. Will actually have the meaning “Home court advantage”
That Capcom pro tour, that’s not fair. He won those fair and square but apparently he got disallowed. He got so robbed
that's a shame about that waterfall stage, that stage is gorgeous.
"Hi I'm John Gutsman and I am here for my interview with Shadow Loo. "
4:28 "This stage is banned because you're flying and people get motion-sick just watching it!"
Me, a U.S. Air Force veteran who used to take Space A flights all over the United States: "Heh! Wimps!"
I love how chill that tweet from Ryan Hart is lol
I remember Smugs color and stage in sf4 lmao
Wow no fun allowed on the one good Blanka costume.
Just tells me they need a tourney mode. There is no reason to disable the Vega stage, just turn of the wall jump in tourney mode
Very interesting video Brian, loved it
Kanzuki beach could be solved with a low tide variation. One of best stages in sf.
"The grid stage is banned because we want more visual diversity"
...what in the fuck?
It’s a good decision imo
Literally everyone using that fucking stage in SF4, it got tiresome.
@@HyphaeHighway TFH players want a word with you
Competitive Players: Waaaaah! The characters look too cool and it's distracting! Waaaaah!
