The “Trail of the Volcanoes” is much more than a network of hiking trails! They invite you to explore peaceful landscapes, discover warm-hearted people and outstanding cuisine in the Steirisches Vulkanland. Therefore it is no coincidence that the map of hiking trails together depict a fire-creature, an entity in whose footsteps our hike through the landscape becomes a journey into the inside - a pleasure hike into ourselves.
Discover the vitality of the Steirisches Vulkanland over a varied and enjoyable 600 kilometres (approximately 373 miles) as a long-distance hike lasting several days, or as a day trip on one of the 49 themed trails that are accessible all year round. The network of hiking trails extends from Sinabelkirchen in the North via Riegersburg and the spiritual centre in Straden, to Mureck and Bad Radkersburg in the South.
Walking the “Trail of the volcanoes” is also a culinary journey - there are numerous restaurants, wine taverns, and refreshment stations along the hiking trails. Also, the Vulkanland Route 66 - with probably the highest concentration of culinary experiences worldwide - invites you to discover and enjoy the taste of the region. In between there are extinct volcanoes, hot springs, and numerous impulse places that offer a break, relaxation, and an insight into the impressive landscape.
