    Great price , especially with the footprint included . Weight is pretty good for that size and price . What I'd be worried about is those " Pole " holes for the vents and ridge pole . I don't like more opening than needed in a tent . Maybe the bugs will stay out though .

    Am I glad you reviewed this strange tent.
    I got one for cheap before the COVID era and so far only Korean and a few Chinese youtubers have ever reviewed it.
    For years it was simply one of the most forgotten tent out there. About the design, I find that it is eerily close to the Black Diamond Hilight 2P Tent.
    I didn't go beyond testing it one afternoon, and I have never slept in it. I got it because I wanted something very aired, for those warm summer nights when the wind is low and the skeeters are many and very hungry. One problem I did notice with those openings is that if you don't stake the tent to the ground quickly, the fist gentle breeze can make it fly. It doesn't need a strong wind for it to trap the wind and take off. I also did find the setup strange and I wasn't sure where to get those pole to criss-cross the first time.
    Also did you notice the rings present under the storm flap? Do you think they planned to sell some extensions that clip there, like two detachable awnings? I'd like to try to rig something with my poncho the next time.
    Anyway, thanks for reviewing one of the most enigmatic tent sold on Aliexpress.

    Already seeing two substantial leak points. Vents, with the ability tio open and close from the inside those grommeted holes will be an ingress for moisture to enter unless the rain is coming directly down on the tent. Has the potential but vents of that style always in my opnion need to be redesigned by someone whos actually been out in the woods camping during heavy rain/wind conditions. Luke as always thanks for being you, being honest and not pulling any punches when it comes to the companies you test gear from..

    Well I was excited to learn about this ultralight naturehike tent until you said how much it weighs. That doesn't sound ultralight to me. That is the same weight as my regular two person naturehike tent. I loved mine until recently. I started having problems with the zippers, which is not a great problem to have in the middle of the night when you have to potty. I love the size of that tent though.

  • @barbaraurban9824
    @barbaraurban9824 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I will be interested in the rain test. Many years ago I had a large eureka cabin tent that leaked everywhere. It had the inside zip flaps. The rain puddled between the screen and the flap and eventually seeped down the wall. I felt that the inside flap was cut too big,allowing rain to catch in the excess.

  • @alathenasidericus
    @alathenasidericus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Luke. Thanks for testing this. Very interesting design. I like the fact that you don’t have to go out of the tent to control the air that comes in. The criss-crossing poles should make it pretty sturdy. For all those reasons, I wonder if that might make it a 3+ season tent. But at that weight, no way this is ultra-light. Can’t wait for test night. I would never have thought that kind of tent could be waterproof before the OT Scaena. (BTW, might not interest everyone, but Scaena comes from the Greek to designated a sun covered area which is often referred to as a « tent ». I still don’t know how to prononce it though :) )

  • @markperry222

    I was looking at this tent myself a couple of years ago. At that time the websites selling it gave no clear info on the internal dimensions. I was worried the tent would be too short, turns out that was wrong.
    Nice to see you looking at Naturehike. Both Naturehike and 3FUL do some really popular budget gear with a solid reputation, it would be great to see some more reviews of the manufacturers tents, the ones that have not been widely reviewed already. For example the Naturehike Hiby2-3 or the 3FUL Taiji2.

  • @Rileysworld727
    @Rileysworld727 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can tell that your whole mentality has changed since the Scaena. You used to just automatically assume that a tent like this would leak and now you're willing to give these types of tents a chance. I really appreciate your the content and the willingness to keep an open mind for unbiased reviews of these more affordable tents.

  • @eberry023

    Another internal fly. I'm leaning towards leakage. Especially thru the zippers. And if it is bad enough you have to zip the doors completely shut I doubt the two vents will allow enough air flow to reduce the condensation. Keep your rain gear handy I think your gonna need it

    Quite frankly, if my knees were 20 years (or even 10 years) younger, I'd buy this in a heartbeat. It has many features that I found on my old Walrus Mountain 360 tent, but with the possibility of better ventilation. Rain permeability of the external fabric could be an issue, but with modern tent waterproofing sprays, even if the MFG skimped here, you should be able to treat the fabric to keep out rain. I always use a mattress (usually thermarest, a thin mattress), so any small water seepage-es that occur should be well below the level of my sleeping bag. No, I'm already sold as long as I can get a body with younger knees and back to go with it. Have fun you youngsters (geeze, I didn't just type that did I)!

    • @carlchristensen584
      @carlchristensen584 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      BTW - "Internal Fly", if by this you mean the solid panel doors being internal to the mesh screens, then well "Hell yeah". In my opinion this is the ONLY way a tent door should be manufactured. In my experience, the leakage here is minimal (perhaps I've never witnessed poor designs with this setup?).

    I actually like the design of this tent. No matter what, I would use a tarp with it (my preferred choice in fact with all my tents/hammocks). Having 2 large doors for airflow is great and I would only use the internal fly doors for controlling airflow, not as a rain guard.

    • @chalion8399
      @chalion8399 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mtadams2009 I like using a tarp so I have a larger area to be able to spread out, set up a camp chair, maybe a small table and relax and not have to sit in the tent to get out of the sun. I really only want to be in the tent for sleeping or getting out of the wind/weather. If i'm going light, then probably won't have the chair or table, but have some sort of ground cloth or pad to sit on.

    To wax your zipper take a small amount of wax and rub it up and down the outside of the zipper teeth until all teeth are covered.
    Make sure you rub it in well so that it gets into the cracks between the teeth as this is where water penetration occurs.
    Be careful not to apply too much or it will get all over your coat which is not ideal.
    Once you have finishing applying the wax rup the zip up and down the zipper a few times to help evenly spread the wax and embed it in and around each tooth.
    One additional bonus to using wax is that it also help lubricate your zip so it should run nice and smooth after applying the wax.
    2. Use A Zip Covering / Storm Flap
    Most outdoor coats will come fitting with a zip covering, also known as a storm flap.
    This is a fabric flap that runs alongside the zip. When the zipper is closed you can cover it with the storm flap.
    This guy hasn’t bothered closing his jacket’s storm flap
    Many include velcro attachements for extra rain protection.
    The combination of zipper, storm flap and velcro is pretty much impenetrable to rain even if the zipper is a standard (non-waterproof zip).
    However if your jacket doesn’t have a storm flap you could sew one on if you know what you are doing!
    If you want to go down this route then check out this tutorial on how to add a storm flap to your jacket.
    Alternatively, for a short-term solution, you can just stick some waterproof tape such as Flex tape over your zipper to keep the rain out.

    Hi Luke, this is basically a cheap and less strong copy of the Black Diamond Hilight. I had one a for a couple of years and have posted a few videos on YT. The BD is undoubtedly stronger ( internally poled though which is a faff) but I can see folk opting for this as an inexpensive version with external poles which makes it easier to pitch. I wonder if Naturehike will offer an add on vestibule like the BD version. Atb Andrew

    • @DenisSolaro
      @DenisSolaro 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great point, on the one I got I could see a few loops hidden under that storm flap. It got me to think that they may have thought about selling extensions, one just like that extra vestibule for the Mongar. I'm tempted to run a guy line from that horizontal pole and try to attach a poncho on these loops and see if I can make a temporary awning.

    I was reading on an ultralight website yesterday that apparently some nylon (I think in this case it was the Lanshan but I can’t be sure) is not actual ripstop. It’s a cosmetic addition to make it look like it. This could be the same. I wish I had the link to share - and apparently someone in the community who tests this stuff with microscopes and the like confirmed it.

    Internal flys are great when they work. As you mentioned, you can open up in a rain storm. I also like the idea of being able to open and close the vents from the inside. Unfortunately all of the grommet pass throughs leave too many gaps. Also, not a fan of the pole sleeves at all, snag it once, and that snag in the material will grab the pole every time. Not to mention they are impossible to clean out.
    Oh, and there is no such thing as a waterproof zipper.

    Initial thoughts, hate sleeves, poles so long could be an issue because of the sleeves, you need ample space to set up. I really dislike mesh on top of the body door. Water seeps through the mesh getting the door wet which ends up in you tent when you open the door. Threading that pole through the grommets doesn’t look like fun, then add how hard it is to seat it after you thread it through. Looks pretty cool though, I’ll give ‘em that

    It seem like a very large 2P tent, the widht only a few inch off from what many manufacturer sell as 3P tents.
    The weight is ok for two persons, especially considering it's a freestanding tent, but it's not a good weight to use as a solo-tent.
    And the price at Ali-Express is awesome, even considering the risk of having to pay custom clearence fees!
    I look forward to see how it persform in the rain test, I guess there could be a small pool of water on the down wind side of the door when it's windy enough, not a very big deal if it happens and it's known to happen, but large quantities of water is another thing, and of course, if you don't know it can happen, you will be unprepared for it.

    Hi Luke, have you ever tried the NatureHike Cloud Peak 2? I’d love to get your review on this. Love the channel dude 👍 Keep up the amazing job. Paul

      Cloud peak is nice for its price. Zippers could be better, one of them jumped track and they offered $5 gift card as compensation.

      Cloud Peak 2 is a beast, Summit or Nothing has a vid of it in a pretty strong wind and it held up good.

    Poles kinda remind me of the hazzle with the Naturehike Hiby 3. Love the tent, not the setup process...

    Likely will leak on heavy driving rain, doors and vents. Will be good in hot weather with a tarp, just not liking the doors opening leaving it to the floor.

    This tent sounds promising for size and value. I would be concerned by higher wind flows deforming the envelope of the tent.

    I would love that here in texas. It looks like it would get great ventilation.

    A little bit concerned about how tight the hanging pole fits, might "pop" the eye out after some use. also, a large fly might be a
    great addition.

    You haven't seen the tallest Pole (Janusz Mysłowiecki) - he is 220 cm tall (7 feet 2.614 inches) 😉🇵🇱🇺🇲💪🏻

    That isn't a big tent! That is the size all tents should be. More fun than trying to relax in the usual coffin!

    I like this tent but I like tents that have that extra outdoor flap that I have seen you use before that gives you a place to keep things outside the tents but still covered. I am not sure what a single wall tent really means, it looks like it has great ventilation to me, which is always important.

    Ripstop is probably trademarked so they use their "lattice cloth" instead.
