The leaders' parting scene is actually sadder than Rose saying goodbye to Jack in the movie Titanic. Hyojin cried and reached out his hand thinking that J-Us died as he saw the ship getting hit by the missile, not knowing that J-Us survived the wreckage and successfully landed on a planet. Hyojin didn't even think about the missile that's about to hit the mother ship. All of his thoughts focused just on J-Us's safety.

@@boothique Okay. So, the thing is ONF has its ongoing lore which is explained through their music videos. It's up to the fans with how they interpret it. My comment here is merely explaining a part of it which is the "parting scene" of the leaders.

I think the thing about the ONF universe is that not everything has to be taken as a literal depiction of a part of their timeline, and that a lot of the visuals in their music videos are only there to imply something about the world they are in.
For example, with the golf ball scene in this mv where there seems to be a barrier surrounding the field in which the boys are in, I think its there to do nothing more than to imply that the world is one with restrictions, and that they cannot have meaningless fun without there being forces outside that affect them. It basically represents on a lore level that their world is not normal, but it can also be a representation of how teenagers and young adults in the real world can’t be themselves and have fun, enjoy “summer” without there being things that bog them down.
This actually applies to the entire music video too; the thing I think Popping does better than all their previous music videos is that it links a very strong, personal message to their lore/the “onf universe”. Instead of understanding all the in and outs of this mv and their scifi storyline, I think it hits deeper when we think about the general message of the song.
“Popping” is a song talking about summer and all the good memories of summer, and how we should hold onto the good times even if things get bad. No matter how bad things get, the good memories are those which remain; I think it’s amazing how ONF is able to portray this message through the scifi styling of their universe. At the start of the mv, we can take it as all the boys sitting in a circle, ready to die. But instead of “singing a sad song” and thinking about the bad memories and the fact that they aren’t going to continue being alive, they are focusing on the good memories of the past (on the screen in the beginning they are watching parts of their previous mvs, so its basically a representation of them looking through their old memories) all the happy, summery scenes in this mv are the good times they’ve had together. You can see the onf boys acting like regular teenagers and also in a school setting. It’s why the entire mv seems disjointed in it’s scenes; while they are fighting their little sci-fi dystopian end-of-the-world situation in all of its bleakness they are remember what matters, and they are remembering the good memories. The entire mv and song is basically an allegory for the phrase “life flashing before your eyes” as you die; but ONF is utilising this theme to represent the message that “no matter how bad things get, hold onto the good” which i think is amazing; it’s a message that is so applicable to our lives regardless of the situation. For example, I’ve experienced the worst friendship breakup of my life with my dearest friends the past month, but no matter how badly it ended I still remain onto the fun and good memories I had with those people, because that’s what matters in the end. I also think it’s an extremely heartwarming message to be giving in the middle of the pandemic; despite thw fact that things have become shitty, and our lives feel like they’ve come to a stop let’s hold onto the good memories that we’ve made in order to push us forward another day.
ONF has a talent of finding a singular message and applying it to their lore in order for the message to have a larger impact, and i think it’s such a smart use of their whole sci-fi story. Instead of focusing on making it comprehensible and making a big action movie out of their mvs, theyve instead created them to emphasize everyday messages that dig deep into the heart. If we think about We Must Love, theyve created a song talking about fate and the fact that love /will/ bring people together, but it’s emphasized by the mv and their narrative visuals. One other thing i’ve realised about onf is alot of their music can also cater to the general kpop appeal (we must love can be taken as the typical fanservicey “i will love you forever”) while still creating messages that are deeper and more personal to them and their lore. I think it’s neat. I think it’s really, really neat.

So…about that “simple summer music video”…😂😂 with ONF I’ve learned never to speak to soon. The ONF universe makes my head spin in the best way! They packed so much story into this MV and the ending just left me with more questions. That’s perfect for ONF I guess 😂😂

i love the preservation theory, it made me think that it's possible that this might not even be the "original" ONF and they have already died and been cloned many times to reach this point. Why M/V there was the confirmation of a clone tank, although i can't even be sure if it was being employed by the evil guys or the "true" ONF
you know what would be crazy? if the cam recorder J-US received at the end (20:44) was actually sent by evil Hyojin with footage of his dead friends on the spaceship after the explosion.. and that's why he looked so heartbroken at 20:47

My theory is that the onfs are clones except for j-us, who hops timelines every time the members die off/ are killed by robots or evil hyojin. The info in the camcorder was to help j-us set the next timeline straight and protect them.

The cinematic effect of having Popping as the back track of tragic death hit me so hard when I first watched it.
Does anyone know the animation movie Metropolis (2001)? The ending scene of tragic ending for the main characters were having I Can't Stop Loving You by Ray Charles. This was the first thing I remembered when I watched Popping MV.
The opposite message between the song and the scene gave this ironic hopeful vibe in tragic reality.
When I said Popping MV hurt me, it's not only because all of them got tragic ending, but because how they deliver the desperate message through the contrast between the song meaning and the mv story.
And Hyojin's explosion scene was actually filmed at the scene.
It is said that smoke and fake stones flew around due to special effects.
He told the behind story on the radio a few days ago!

I know, I am late, but still:
They watch memories from Complete, WML, Why and Sukhumvit Swimming on the screen, while saying to not sing sad songs anymore. All happy summer moments refer to good old days of Complete mv. So they try to recreate them with holographic tech on the ship. Because recorder and advanced technology aren't compatible you see glitches like basketball that threw itself, golf ball jitters and gets multiplied when it hits holographic wall. E-tion standing on mattresses further shows that it is not real. They new what is coming and wanted to feel happy once again before the end. They new summer is going to come again because J-US will save them.
I also think this is a prequel to Sukhumvit Swimming because in SS mv MK is in a space suit passed out floating in space. Also we see a clock at the beginning of mv and at the end with the same time on it, and an effect as if everything that happened in SS mv was rewinded back. SS mv is from album called Spin Off, therefore it doesn't affect main story, but in SS too, everyone died except J-US. So same ending happens in multiple parallel universes and J-US needs to save them with happy memories on that recorder. Because time travel is possible, and illegal in ONF lore, we can speculate that this is also a prequel to BB and Ugly Dance since they are not referenced as past here. In BB J-US gets arrested for time travel, but he already has given his members the memories back, so they are fighting the system to save J-US from jail and give back memories to the rest of androids. You can see all robots dancing happy at the end of BB mv and all the banners say Beautiful. Just my interpretation.
Fuses dont know much about this comeback either. Evil hyojin is definitely an android. I personally think this mv comes directly after beautiful beautiful
and some parts of sukhumvit Swimming came before this cuz yk that MK was hit by a bomb, that explains him floating in space unconscious in Sukhumvit Swimming

(Disclaimer: not a lore person just my personal thoughts)
Everyone on the ONF discord was like Complete 2.0 and the song is a 2.0 and so is the first half of the MV. Then something changed in the second section and all of a sudden we see what they do for a living (space scientists!!!), it becomes all sad and everyone's dead like the end of Sukhumvit Swimming (also note in SS, MK is an astronaut floating in space unconscious, so maybe he did live?). It's like they were showing all the motions of summer, the highs, the lows, and hope for the future. Yes some of them died but some lived and we don't even know if these guys were android clones etc. I guess the point is, summer ends but it will return, sad things happen but life carries on. I think this is why ONF is my favorite boy group, I am never disappointed and the quality and thought put into the songs and MVs blows me away every time.
One last thing: Knowing ONF and their team etc. It was probably intentional that the song and MV were complete opposites, and that we would get those vibes (So much respect and love for this decision, I love the MV soo much). Also that they released a summer song when summer is almost technically over. In ugly dance, they said we will do things differently cuz we are different.

I always get the reminiscing about the past when I listen to the song. It is happy and bright but also holds the feeling of something ending yet something else more exciting is coming...

There are many interpretations, and many fuse say that it's a prequel story of the world view that connects Sukhumvit Swimming and Beautiful Beautiful. When I first watched the music video and watched it again, it felt so different.The lyrics tell me not to sing a sad song. 🥲
I was truly shocked because this music video has a different vibe from the song. So I had no choice but to replay the video. I think the ONF members in the popping mv are probably what they looked like before they became Android :)

You know what, the first part of MV is the scenes flashing through their eyes when they on the brink of death myb. It could be somehow related to On/Off and Complete MV.
For me, this song feels like... reminiscing the happy past in the meantime hoping for better future.
I love the callback to dystopic films/stories where they dream of better times. This was interesting - adding a layer of melancholy to the zaniness of the song.
Yes, the song is really good and the mv gives it an entirely different feel from what I expected. It is a strange feeling but good. I like that the relationship between the song and mv isn't straightforward in this case.

it's insane how visuals can completely change your perspective of a song, cause in the first half of the mv Popping was just a cute awesome summer song but then on the second chorus it felt so bittersweet.. and the "hey you there hey you there please don't sing sad song" part hits so differently on the bridge

Popping: their "safety bubble" just popped (the dome broke and Etion was shocked, sensing that there's an ensuing attack from their demons), they basically had to be reminded that no matter what, they still had a crappy reality that they had to face one way or another. Playtime's over, the journey continues in the ONF lore. I hope for an OFF comeback before the year ends since this mv just predicted that something bad will happen again,
