Loved the Kapustin! Kapustin basically buried himself in Russia which is not a country supportive of American jazz. I heard that he did come to America once, but went back to Russia. As a classical music pianist born to a jazz musician, I would have loved to play some of Kapustin compositions for my father. Basically, getting Kapustin's music is difficult because one needs to deal with Russian financial complications. It is so sad that Kapustin didn't work at getting his music "out there." Jazz is basically dying and his music would raise jazz from "the dead." In addition to lots of jazz-oriented piano music, he wrote a number of piano concertos that are absolutely delightful. Kapustin is the jazz-classical God. It is totally sad that he buried himself (and unfortunately his art) in a country that was not supportive of this American music. What was he afraid of????
I found the Prokofiev thrilling and delightful. I will think about trying to learn it, though it seems way beyond me. It's stuff like this that inspires me.
Nobuyuki is blind and his accomplishment at the piano is staggering! It is an obvious fact that a pianist is only as good as the parents who supported them. God bless Nobuyuki's parents! Without you, his career would have never happened!
Ligeti is like a revolution to me
