    Thanks for this excellent job.
    I have the WFF1300 which is nearly the same design. I am busy replacing the bearings and your video is very helpful.
    Total cost for the bearings and the rubber seal purchased from the local store : 28€.
    I tried to just take out the orange bracket without opening the front side, but it was not possible. The axis was sealed to the bearings. So I opened the tank and I extracted the drum and his axis by hitting the axis from behind with a wooden hammer.

    You could in theory paint strip the panels and treat rust patches kurust by hammerite or lightly wet sand polish it away then treat with kurust as it's an inhibitor to any corrosion then once dry 2 coats of hammerite special metals primer and finally some appliance enamel paint or I'd use spray on radiator enamel 2-4 coats as 8t can withstand direct prolonged contact with a heat source like rads
    Def a big job stripping washer nicely done 👍👍

    actually the noise was coming from the motor bearings, not the drum bearings in my opinion , you can inspect them by removing the belt and spinning them separately

  • @TheInfoworks
    @TheInfoworks 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Owen, I was thinking along the lines of another comment, was there a reason to not just remove the cast bearing block and so change the bearings? Obviously take the front off to change the door seal. Remarkably clean machine, your water must be quite soft, cheers

    • @bootsowen
      @bootsowen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Apparently not, it looks like the cast block could be pulled out through the back and the rest left in situ. I was thinking that I could pull the drum out through the front and get the bearings out with the tub and block in situ. Either way, a long day last August has now been relived!
      On another note, TH-cam "released" many comments up to a month old for my approval, some from you, so if I haven't been responding it is because I haven't seen them. Specifically, you mentioned about solar getting up to 2500 kWh/year from the system. Having had 2 kWh yesterday and feeling good about it 10+ per day in summer will be excellent!
      The water here is very soft, straight out of the tap, our second hand kettle must be 20 or more years old and is as clean as a whistle.

      @@bootsowen Owen, I was surprised how easily the shaft came out of those bearings, just slid out, this is what dreams are made of. I will look at my pending comments to see what has suddenly arrived. I have noticed that there were never any comments listed there so now there maybe lots. Yes, take the installed capacity of the system and multiply by 1000 to get a rule of thumb for annual generation, cheers

    7601, which makes this a almost 26 year old machine.
    Built like a tank though, these Bosches are very well made machines, second to a Miele from this era.

    • @bootsowen
      @bootsowen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally think that they are better than a miele, Having had both and currently have both, the bosch were more common so have more common parts available now. Whereas miele may be better made, and may have given a good 10+years service, when they break the parts are available and cost a fortune, with the bosch most of the parts are really cheap, like in this video. brushes are £2 a pair now and pumps, etc are cheap, but I had a miele tumble drier a few years ago, the element was about £250 to replace and there were no third parties making parts so you had to go original. So I agree, second originally, but now (on a 26 year old machine) they are ahead!

    • @Wasmachineman
      @Wasmachineman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bootsowen Meanwhile, over here in The Netherlands you'll basically trip over old Mieles and their parts. Ask me how I know.

    You've overcomplicated it! In these machines that have a steel outer tub, you can just take out the orange cast-iron bracket at the back of the tub and replace the bearings without taking the whole machine apart!

    • @bootsowen
      @bootsowen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for this comment, I was trying to make it easier by leaving the steel tub in place, what you say makes sense, probably don't even need to remove the front in that case. That is way easier. I hope they break again!. I noticed a few shortcuts when doing the front rubber door seal too on this machine. This time I was cleaning the motor, new bearings and door rubber so I still had to take the front off. I tend to start without thinking about stuff, always top off and so on. mostly because so many machines are slightly different, but I should get to know these bosch machines, because I have a few, but they rarely break, so it is hard to get to know them!.
